CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINBIBLES DES PEUPLES
But Baldad the Suhite responded by saying:1 Bildad de Chouah prit alors la parole:
How long will you throw around words? Understand first, and then let us speak.2 Quand finiras-tu tous ces discours? Sois raisonnable, et laisse-nous parler.
Why have we been treated like mules, as if we were unworthy before you?3 Nous prends-tu pour des bêtes, nous regardes-tu comme des brutes?
You, who ruins your own soul in your fury, will the earth be forsaken because of you, and will the cliffs be moved from their place?4 Pourquoi te déchirer dans ta fureur? La terre va-t-elle se perdre pour autant ou les rochers changer de place?
Will not the light of the impious be put out, and the flame of his fire refuse to shine?5 Mais vois: la lumière du méchant s’éteint, son feu ne jette plus de flammes.
Light will become darkness in his tabernacle, and the lamp that is over him will be extinguished.6 La lumière baisse dans sa tente, sa lampe au-dessus de lui s’éteint.
His strong steps will be constrained, and his own counsel will cast him down uncontrollably.7 Sa démarche alerte devient hésitante, ses propres combines le font tomber.
For he has caused his own feet to go into a net, and he has walked into its web.8 Ses pieds le conduisent vers un filet, ou le précipitent dans la trappe.
His heel will be held in a snare, and thirst will rage against him.9 Un nœud coulant le saisit à la cheville, le collet se resserre sur lui.
A trap has been hidden for him in the earth, and a decoy, along his path.10 Une corde, cachée en terre, va le prendre, un piège est sur le sentier pour l’attraper.
Horrifying things will terrify him everywhere and will entangle his feet.11 Des dangers de tous côtés le menacent, et le suivent à la trace.
Let his strength be diminished by famine, and let starvation invade his ribs.12 La famine ne le quitte plus, le malheur se tient à ses côtés.
Let it devour the beauty of his skin; let the ancient death consume his arms.13 Un mal ronge sa chair, une peste mortelle lui dévore les membres.
Let his confidence be torn away from his tabernacle, and let ruin trample over him like a king.14 On l’arrache au refuge de sa tente, il est bon pour aller vers le Roi des enfers.
Let the companions of he who is not, dwell in his tabernacle; let brimstone rain down upon his tabernacle.15 Installe-toi dans sa tente, elle n’est plus à lui; on répand du soufre sur son domaine.
Let his roots be dried up from beneath him, and his harvest be crushed from above.16 Ses racines en bas se dessèchent, et par le haut sa ramure se flétrit.
Let the memory of him perish from the earth, and let not his name be celebrated in the streets.17 On ne se souvient plus de lui dans le pays, il n’a laissé son nom sur rien.
He will expel him from light into darkness, and he will remove him from the world.18 On le remise de la lumière aux ténèbres, il est expulsé du monde.
Neither his offspring, nor his descendents, will exist among his people, nor will there be any remnants in his country.19 Dans son peuple il n’a laissé ni enfants, ni suivants, de son campement, nul n’a survécu.
The last will be astonished at his day, and the first will be overcome with horror.20 Tout l’Occident s’étonne de son sort, tous en Orient sont saisis d’effroi.
And so, these are the tabernacles of the sinful, and this the place of he who does not know God.21 Voilà pour les demeures des méchants, voilà pour la contrée qui veut ignorer Dieu!
