1 Samuel 27

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'One of these days,' David thought, 'I shal perish at the hand of Saul. The best thing that I can do is toget away into the country of the Philistines; then Saul will give up tracking me through the length and breadth ofIsrael and I shal be safe from him.'	1 Sin embargo, David pensó: «A pesar de todo, Saúl terminará por matarme cualquier día de estos. Es mejor que me ponga a salvo en el país de los filisteos. Así Saúl perderá las esperanzas con respecto a mí: ya no me buscará por todo el territorio de Israel, y habré escapado de sus manos».
2 So David set off and went over, he and his six hundred men, to Achish son of Maoch, king of Gath.	2 Luego David, con los seiscientos hombres que lo acompañaban, cruzó la frontera y se presentó a Aquís, hijo de Maóc, rey de Gat.
3 He settled at Gath with Achish, he and his men, each with his family and David with his two wives,Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel.	3 David y sus hombres se quedaron con Aquís, en Gat, cada uno con su familia, y David, con sus dos mujeres: Ajinóam, de Izreel, y Abigail, la esposa de Nabal, el de Carmel.
4 When news reached Saul that David had fled to Gath, he stopped searching for him.	4 Saúl fue informado de que David había huido, y ya no lo buscó más.
5 David said to Achish, 'If I have won your favour, let me be given a place in one of the outlying towns,where I can live. Why should your servant live in the royal city with you?'	5 David dijo a Aquís: «Si quieres hacerme un favor, di que me asignen un lugar en alguna población de campaña, para instalarme allí. ¿Cómo tu servidor va a residir contigo en la ciudad real?».
6 That very day Achish gave him Ziklag; and this is why Ziklag has been the property of the kings ofJudah to the present day.	6 Aquel mismo día, Aquís le asignó Siquelag. Por eso Siquelag ha pertenecido a los reyes de Israel hasta el día de hoy.
7 The time that David stayed in Philistine territory amounted to a year and four months.	7 David permaneció en la región de los filisteos un año y cuatro meses.
8 David and his men went out on raids against the Geshurites, Girzites and Amalekites, for these arethe tribes inhabiting the region which, from Telam, goes in the direction of Shur, as far as Egypt.	8 David subía con sus hombres, y atacaban por sorpresa a los guesuritas, los guirzitas y los amalecitas, porque esa gente ocupaba el territorio que va de Telam en dirección a Sur y hasta el país de Egipto.
9 David laid the countryside waste and left neither man nor woman alive; he carried off the sheep andcattle, the donkeys, camels and clothing, and then came back again to Achish.	9 David arrasaba el país, sin dejar a nadie con vida, ni hombre ni mujer; se llevaba ovejas, vacas, asnos, camellos y ropa, y luego volvía a presentarse ante Aquís.
10 Achish would ask, 'Where did you go raiding today?' David would reply, 'Against the Negeb ofJudah,' or 'the Negeb of Jerahmeel,' or 'the Negeb of the Kenites.'	10 Cuando Aquís le decía: «¿Contra quién han incursionado hoy?», David le respondía: «Contra el Négueb de Judá»; o bien: «Contra el Négueb de los ierajmelitas»; o bien: «Hacia el Négueb de los quenitas».
11 David spared neither man nor woman to bring back alive to Gath, 'in case', as he thought, 'theyinform on us and say, "David did such and such." ' This was the way David conducted his raids al the time hestayed in Philistine territory.	11 David no dejaba que ningún hombre ni mujer fuera llevado con vida a Gat, porque decía: «No vaya a ser que nos denuncien, diciendo lo que ha hecho David». Este fue su modo de proceder todo el tiempo que estuvo en la región de los filisteos.
12 Achish trusted David. 'He has made himself detested by his own people Israel,' he thought, 'and sowil be my servant for ever.'	12 Pero Aquís confiaba en él, porque pensaba: «Se ha hecho odioso a su pueblo Israel y será mi servidor para siempre».
