1 Hannah then prayed as fol ows: My heart exults in Yahweh, in my God is my strength lifted up, mymouth derides my foes, for I rejoice in your deliverance.	1 « Il mio cuore esulta nel Signore, la mia forza è esaltata nel mio Dio, la mia bocca si è allargata sopra i miei nemici; perchè mi son rallegrata pel tuo soccorso.
2 There is no Holy One like Yahweh, (indeed, there is none but you) no Rock like our God.	2 Nessuno è santo come il Signore non v'è nessun altro fuori di te, nessuno è forte come il nostro Dio.
3 Do not keep talking so proudly, let no arrogance come from your mouth, for Yahweh is a wise God, histo weigh up deeds.	3 Non vogliate moltiplicare, vantandovi, le parole superbe, via dalla vostra bocca gli antichi discorsi, che il Signore è il Dio delle scienze, e da lui son preparati i disegni.
4 The bow of the mighty has been broken but those who were tottering are now braced with strength.	4 L'arco dei forti è state spezzato, i deboli sono stati cinti di fprza,
5 The ful fed are hiring themselves out for bread but the hungry need labour no more; the barren womanbears sevenfold but the mother of many is left desolate.	5 quelli che prima erano satolli si sono allogati per aver del pane, e quelli che pativan la fame furon satollati; cosi pure la sterile ebbe molti figli, e quella che aveva molta prole restò infeconda.
6 Yahweh gives death and life, brings down to Sheol and draws up;	6 Il Signore fa morire e fa vivere, conduco al soggiorno dei morti e ne fa ritornare,
7 Yahweh makes poor and rich, he humbles and also exalts.	7 il Signore fa impoverire e arricchire, umilia ed esalta;
8 He raises the poor from the dust, he lifts the needy from the dunghil to give them a place with princes,to assign them a seat of honour; for to Yahweh belong the pil ars of the earth, on these he has poised the world.	8 solleva il mendico dalla polvere e innalza il povero dal letamaio, per farlo assidere coi principi, in un trono di gloria. Del Signore sono i cardini della terra: sopra di essi egli posò il mondo.
9 He safeguards the steps of his faithful but the wicked vanish in darkness (for human strength can winno victories).	9 Eglì renderà sicuri i passi dei suoi santi, e gli empi taceranno nelle loro tenebre, perchè non per la sua forza sarà forte l'uomo.
10 Yahweh, his enemies are shattered, the Most High thunders in the heavens. Yahweh judges the endsof the earth, he endows his king with power, he raises up the strength of his Anointed.	10 Del Signore avran paura i suoi nemici, ed egli tonerà contro di essi dal cielo. Il Signore giudicherà i confini della terra, e darà l'impero al suo re, ed esalterà la potenza del suo Cristo »,
11 Elkanah then went home to Ramah, but the child stayed in Yahweh's service, in the presence of Elithe priest.	11 Poi Elcana se ne andò a casa sua in Ramata, e il fanciullo restò a servire nel cospetto del Signore, sotto gli occhi del sacerdote Eli.
12 Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels; they cared nothing for Yahweh	12 Or i figli d'Eli erari figli di Belial, e non conoscevano il Signore,
13 nor for what was due to the priests from the people. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest'sservant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being cooked;	13 nè il dovere dei sacerdoti verso il popolo; perchè, da chiunque fosse immolata la vittima, mentre si cuocevano le carni, veniva il servo del sacerdote con un forchettone a tre punte,
14 he would thrust this into cauldron or pan, or dish or pot, and the priest claimed for his own whateverthe fork brought up. That was how they behaved with all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.	14 e lo infilava nel calderone, nella caldaia, nella pentola, nella marmitta, e tutto quello che il forchettone tirava su, lo pigliava per sè il sacerdote. Così agivano con ogni Israelita che veniva in Silo.
15 The priest's servant would even come up before the fat had been burnt and say to the person whowas making the sacrifice, 'Give the priest some meat for him to roast. He wil not accept boiled meat from you,only raw.'	15 Ed anche avanti che fosse bruciato il grasso, il servo del sacerdote veniva e diceva a chi faceva l'immolazione: « Dammi della carne da far cuocere pel sacerdote, perchè non prenderò da te caverne cotta, ma soltanto quella cruda ».
16 Then, if the person replied, 'Let the fat be burnt first, and then take for yourself whatever you choose,'he would retort, 'No! You must give it to me now or I shal take it by force.'	16 Colui che faceva l'immolazione gli diceva: « Si faccia intanto bruciare il grasso, secondo il rito, e poi prendi quel che vuoi ». Ma l'altro, rispondendo, gli diceva. « No davvero: o me la dai ora, o la prendo per forza ».
17 The young men's sin was very great in Yahweh's eyes, because they treated with contempt theoffering made to Yahweh.	17 Era dunque oltremodo grande davanti al Signore il peccato di quei, giovani; perchè alienavano gli uomini dal far sacrifizio al Signore.
18 Samuel was in Yahweh's service, a child wearing a linen loincloth.	18 Or Samuele giovinetto faceva il servizio dinanzi al Signore, cinto di un efod di lino,
19 His mother used to make him a little coat which she brought him each year when she came up withher husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.	19 e sua madre gli faceva una piccola tunica che egli portava quando, nei giorni prescritti, saliva con suo marito per immolare l'ostia solenne.
20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, 'May Yahweh grant you an heir by this woman inexchange for the one which she has made over to Yahweh,' and they would go home.	20 Eli benedisse Elcana e la moglie di lui, dicendo: «Il Signore ti doni, dei figli da questa donna, in ricompensa del prestito che hai fatto al Signore ». Essi poi tornarono a casa;
21 Yahweh visited Hannah; she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile,the child Samuel grew up in Yahweh's presence.	21 e il Signore visitò Anna che concepì e diede alla luce tre figli e due figlie. Intanto il giovinetto Samuele diventava grande davanti al Signore. Eli rimprovera invano i suoi figli.
22 Although very old, Eli heard about everything that his sons were doing to all Israel,	22 Eli, che era molto vecchio, avendo udito tutto quello che facevano i suoi figli verso tutto Israele, e come dormivano colle donne che vegliavano alle porte del Tabernacolo,
23 and said, 'Why are you behaving as al the people say you are?	23 disse loro: « Perchè fate queste cose, queste cose orribili di cui sento parlare da tutto il popolo?
24 No, my sons, what I hear reported by the people of Yahweh is not good.	24 Non fate così, figlioli miei; ciò che sento dire di voi, che fate prevaricare il popolo del Signore, non è buono davvero.
25 If one person sins against another, God will be the arbiter, but if he sins against Yahweh, who wilintercede for him?' But they did not listen to their father's words, for Yahweh was bent on kil ing them.	25 Se un uomo pecca contro un altro uomo, si può placare Dio per lui; ma se pecca contro Dio, chi pregherà per lui? » Ma essi non diedero ascolto alla voce del loro padre,perchè il Signore voleva farli morire.
26 Meanwhile, the child Samuel went on growing in stature and in favour both with Yahweh and withpeople.	26 Intanto il giovinetto Samuele progrediva, si faceva grande, ed era accetto tanto a Dio che agli uomini.
27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him, 'This is what Yahweh says, "Did I not reveal myself to yourfather's family when they were in Egypt as slaves in Pharaoh's household?	27 Venne poi ad Eli un uomo di Dio e gli disse: « Ecco quanto dice il Signore: Non mi sono io rivelato apertamente alla casa di tuo padre, mentre erano in Egitto nella casa di Faraone?
28 Did I not single him out of al the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn theoffering, to carry the ephod in my presence; and did I not grant al the burnt offerings made by the Israelites toyour father's family?	28 Io lo elessi fra tutte le tribù a mio sacerdote, perchè salisse al mio altare a bruciare l'incenso e portasse l'efod dinanzi a me: io diedi alla casa di tuo padre parte di tutti i sacrifizi dei figli d'Israele,
29 Why do you trample on the offering and on the sacrifice which I have ordered for my Dwelling, andhonour your sons more than me, by growing fat on the best of the offerings of Israel, my people?	29 perchè avete voi dato dei calci alle mie vittime, ai miei doni, che, secondo i miei ordini, devono essere offerti nel tempio? Perchè tu hai onorato i tuoi figli più di me, col mangiarvi le primizie d'ogni sacrifizio di Israele, mio popolo?
30 Whereas -- this is what Yahweh, God of Israel, declares -- I had promised that your family and yourfather's family would walk in my presence for ever, now, however -- this is what Yahweh declares -- nothing ofthe sort! Those who honour me I honour in my turn, and those who despise me wil be an object of contempt.	30 Per questo il Signore Dio d'Israele dice: Avevo stabilito che la tua casa e la casa di tuo padre servisse dinanzi a me in eterno. Ma ora dice il Signore: Non sarà più così; ma glorificherò chiunque mi abbia glorificato, e quelli che mi disprezzano saranno disprezzati.
31 Be sure, the days are coming when I shal cut off your strength and the strength of your father's family,so that no one in your family wil live to old age.	31 Ecco vengono i giorni in cui io troncherò il tuo braccio e il braccio della casa di tuo padre, in modo che non si trovi nemmeno un vecchio nella tua casa.
32 Beside the Dwel ing, you wil see al the benefits that I shall confer on Israel, but no one in your familywil ever live to old age.	32 E tu vedrai il tuo emulo nel tempio, in mezzo a tutte le prosperità d'Israele, e non vi sarà giammai un vecchio nella tua casa.
33 I shal keep one of you at my altar for his eyes to go blind and his soul to wither, but the bulk of yourfamily wil die by the sword.	33 Però non farò sparire del tutto dal mio altare i tuoi discendenti; ma lo farò, perchè vengano meno i tuoi occhi e si consumi l'anima tua; e una gran parte della tua casa morrà appena giunta all'età virile.
34 ' "What happens to your two sons Hophni and Phinehas will be a sign for you: on the same day bothwil die.	34 E tu ne avrai un segno in ciò che accadrà ai tuoi figli Ofni e Finees: morranno ambedue nel medesimo giorno.
35 I shal raise myself a faithful priest, who wil do as I intend and as I desire. I shal build him an enduringHouse and he wil walk in the presence of my Anointed for ever.	35 Io poi mi susciterò un sacerdote fedele che agirà secondo il mio cuore e secondo l'anima mia; io gli edificherò una casa fedele, ed egli camminerà dinanzi al mio Cristo, per tutti i giorni.
36 The members of your House who survive wil come and beg him on their knees for a silver coin and aloaf of bread and say: Please give me some priestly work, so that I can have a scrap of bread to eat." '	36 e Allora chiunque rimarrà di casa tua andrà affinchè si preghi per lui, e, offrendo una moneta d'argento ed un pezzo di pane, dirà: Ammettimi, ti scongiuro, ad una funzione sacerdotale, affinchè io abbia un boccone di pane da mangiare ».
