1 Samuel 2

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Hannah then prayed as fol ows: My heart exults in Yahweh, in my God is my strength lifted up, mymouth derides my foes, for I rejoice in your deliverance.	1 Alors Anne fit cette prière: "Mon coeur exulte en Yahvé, ma corne s'élève en mon Dieu, mabouche est large ouverte contre mes ennemis, car je me réjouis en ton secours.
2 There is no Holy One like Yahweh, (indeed, there is none but you) no Rock like our God.	2 Point de Saint comme Yahvé (car il n'y a personne excepté toi), point de Rocher comme notreDieu.
3 Do not keep talking so proudly, let no arrogance come from your mouth, for Yahweh is a wise God, histo weigh up deeds.	3 Ne multipliez pas les paroles hautaines, que l'arrogance ne sorte pas de votre bouche. Un Dieuplein de savoir, voilà Yahvé, à lui de peser les actions.
4 The bow of the mighty has been broken but those who were tottering are now braced with strength.	4 L'arc des puissants est brisé, mais les défaillants sont ceinturés de force.
5 The ful fed are hiring themselves out for bread but the hungry need labour no more; the barren womanbears sevenfold but the mother of many is left desolate.	5 Les rassasiés s'embauchent pour du pain, mais les affamés cessent de travailler. La femme stérileenfante sept fois, mais la mère de nombreux enfants se flétrit.
6 Yahweh gives death and life, brings down to Sheol and draws up;	6 C'est Yahvé qui fait mourir et vivre, qui fait descendre au shéol et en remonter.
7 Yahweh makes poor and rich, he humbles and also exalts.	7 C'est Yahvé qui appauvrit et qui enrichit, qui abaisse et aussi qui élève.
8 He raises the poor from the dust, he lifts the needy from the dunghil to give them a place with princes,to assign them a seat of honour; for to Yahweh belong the pil ars of the earth, on these he has poised the world.	8 Il retire de la poussière le faible, du fumier il relève le pauvre, pour les faire asseoir avec lesnobles et leur assigner un siège d'honneur; car à Yahvé sont les piliers de la terre, sur eux il a posé le monde.
9 He safeguards the steps of his faithful but the wicked vanish in darkness (for human strength can winno victories).	9 Il garde les pas de ses fidèles, mais les méchants disparaissent dans les ténèbres (car ce n'est paspar la force que l'homme triomphe).
10 Yahweh, his enemies are shattered, the Most High thunders in the heavens. Yahweh judges the endsof the earth, he endows his king with power, he raises up the strength of his Anointed.	10 Yahvé, ses ennemis sont brisés, le Très-Haut tonne dans les cieux. Yahvé juge les confins de laterre, il donne la force à son Roi, il exalte la vigueur de son Oint."
11 Elkanah then went home to Ramah, but the child stayed in Yahweh's service, in the presence of Elithe priest.	11 Elqana partit pour Rama dans sa maison mais l'enfant restait à servir Yahvé, en présence duprêtre Eli.
12 Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels; they cared nothing for Yahweh	12 Or les fils d'Eli étaient des vauriens, qui ne se souciaient pas de Yahvé
13 nor for what was due to the priests from the people. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest'sservant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being cooked;	13 ni du droit des prêtres vis-à-vis du peuple: si quelqu'un offrait un sacrifice, le serviteur du prêtrevenait pendant qu'on cuisait la viande, tenant une fourchette à trois dents,
14 he would thrust this into cauldron or pan, or dish or pot, and the priest claimed for his own whateverthe fork brought up. That was how they behaved with all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.	14 il piquait dans le chaudron ou dans la marmite ou dans la terrine ou dans le pot, et le prêtres'attribuait tout ce que ramenait la fourchette; on agissait ainsi avec tous les Israélites qui venaient là, à Silo.
15 The priest's servant would even come up before the fat had been burnt and say to the person whowas making the sacrifice, 'Give the priest some meat for him to roast. He wil not accept boiled meat from you,only raw.'	15 Et même, on n'avait pas encore fait fumer la graisse que le serviteur du prêtre venait et disait àcelui qui sacrifiait: "Donne de la viande à rôtir pour le prêtre, il n'acceptera pas de toi de la viande bouillie,seulement de la viande crue."
16 Then, if the person replied, 'Let the fat be burnt first, and then take for yourself whatever you choose,'he would retort, 'No! You must give it to me now or I shal take it by force.'	16 Et si cet homme lui disait: "Qu'on fasse d'abord fumer la graisse, puis prends pour toi à ta guise",il répondait: "Non, tu vas me donner tout de suite, sinon je prends de force."
17 The young men's sin was very great in Yahweh's eyes, because they treated with contempt theoffering made to Yahweh.	17 Le péché des jeunes gens était très grand devant Yahvé, car ils traitaient avec mépris l'offrandefaite à Yahvé.
18 Samuel was in Yahweh's service, a child wearing a linen loincloth.	18 Samuel était au service de Yahvé, un enfant vêtu du pagne de lin.
19 His mother used to make him a little coat which she brought him each year when she came up withher husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.	19 Sa mère lui faisait un petit manteau qu'elle lui apportait chaque année, lorsqu'elle montait avecson mari pour offrir le sacrifice annuel.
20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, 'May Yahweh grant you an heir by this woman inexchange for the one which she has made over to Yahweh,' and they would go home.	20 Eli bénissait Elqana et sa femme et disait: "Que Yahvé te rende une progéniture de cette femme,en échange du prêt qu'elle a cédé à Yahvé", et ils s'en allaient chez eux.
21 Yahweh visited Hannah; she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile,the child Samuel grew up in Yahweh's presence.	21 Yahvé visita Anne, elle conçut et elle mit au monde trois fils et deux filles; le jeune Samuelgrandissait auprès de Yahvé.
22 Although very old, Eli heard about everything that his sons were doing to all Israel,	22 Bien qu'Eli fût très âgé, il était informé de tout ce que ses fils faisaient à tout Israël.
23 and said, 'Why are you behaving as al the people say you are?	23 Il leur dit: "Pourquoi agissez-vous de la manière que j'entends dire par tout le peuple?
24 No, my sons, what I hear reported by the people of Yahweh is not good.	24 Non, mes fils, elle n'est pas belle la rumeur que j'entends le peuple de Yahvé colporter.
25 If one person sins against another, God will be the arbiter, but if he sins against Yahweh, who wilintercede for him?' But they did not listen to their father's words, for Yahweh was bent on kil ing them.	25 Si un homme pèche contre un autre homme, Dieu sera l'arbitre, mais si c'est contre Yahvé quepèche un homme, qui intercédera pour lui?" Cependant ils n'écoutèrent pas la voix de leur père. C'est qu'il avaitplu à Yahvé de les faire mourir.
26 Meanwhile, the child Samuel went on growing in stature and in favour both with Yahweh and withpeople.	26 Quant au jeune Samuel, il continuait de croître en taille et en grâce tant auprès de Yahvéqu'auprès des hommes.
27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him, 'This is what Yahweh says, "Did I not reveal myself to yourfather's family when they were in Egypt as slaves in Pharaoh's household?	27 Un homme de Dieu vint chez Eli et lui dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Voilà donc que je me suis révéléà la maison de ton père quand ils étaient en Egypte, esclaves de la maison de Pharaon.
28 Did I not single him out of al the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn theoffering, to carry the ephod in my presence; and did I not grant al the burnt offerings made by the Israelites toyour father's family?	28 Je l'ai distinguée de toutes les tribus d'Israël pour exercer mon sacerdoce, pour monter à monautel, pour faire fumer l'offrande, pour porter l'éphod en ma présence, et j'ai concédé à la maison de ton pèretoutes les viandes offertes par les Israélites.
29 Why do you trample on the offering and on the sacrifice which I have ordered for my Dwelling, andhonour your sons more than me, by growing fat on the best of the offerings of Israel, my people?	29 Pourquoi piétinez-vous l'offrande et le sacrifice que j'ai ordonnés pour ma Demeure, et honores-tu tes fils plus que moi, en vous engraissant du meilleur de toutes les offrandes d'Israël, mon peuple?
30 Whereas -- this is what Yahweh, God of Israel, declares -- I had promised that your family and yourfather's family would walk in my presence for ever, now, however -- this is what Yahweh declares -- nothing ofthe sort! Those who honour me I honour in my turn, and those who despise me wil be an object of contempt.	30 C'est pourquoi -- oracle de Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël -- j'avais bien dit que ta maison et la maison deton père marcheraient en ma présence pour toujours, mais maintenant -- oracle de Yahvé -- je m'en garderai! Carj'honore ceux qui m'honorent et ceux qui me méprisent sont traités comme rien.
31 Be sure, the days are coming when I shal cut off your strength and the strength of your father's family,so that no one in your family wil live to old age.	31 Voici que des jours viennent où j'abattrai ton bras et le bras de la maison de ton père, en sortequ'il n'y ait pas de vieillard dans ta maison.
32 Beside the Dwel ing, you wil see al the benefits that I shall confer on Israel, but no one in your familywil ever live to old age.	32 Tu regarderas, à côté de la Demeure, tout le bien que je ferai à Israël, et il n'y aura pas devieillard dans ta maison, à jamais.
33 I shal keep one of you at my altar for his eyes to go blind and his soul to wither, but the bulk of yourfamily wil die by the sword.	33 Je maintiendrai quelqu'un des tiens près de mon autel, pour que ses yeux se consument et que sonâme s'étiole, mais tout l'ensemble de ta maison périra par l'épée des hommes.
34 ' "What happens to your two sons Hophni and Phinehas will be a sign for you: on the same day bothwil die.	34 Le présage sera pour toi ce qui va arriver à tes deux fils, Hophni et Pinhas: le même jour, ilsmourront tous deux.
35 I shal raise myself a faithful priest, who wil do as I intend and as I desire. I shal build him an enduringHouse and he wil walk in the presence of my Anointed for ever.	35 Je me susciterai un prêtre fidèle, qui agira selon mon coeur et mon désir, je lui assurerai unemaison qui dure et il marchera toujours en présence de mon oint.
36 The members of your House who survive wil come and beg him on their knees for a silver coin and aloaf of bread and say: Please give me some priestly work, so that I can have a scrap of bread to eat." '	36 Quiconque subsistera de ta famille viendra se prosterner devant lui pour avoir une piécetted'argent et une galette de pain, et dira: Je t'en prie, attache-moi à n'importe quelle fonction sacerdotale, pour quej'aie un morceau de pain à manger."
