1 Hannah then prayed as fol ows: My heart exults in Yahweh, in my God is my strength lifted up, mymouth derides my foes, for I rejoice in your deliverance.	1 Anna pregò e disse: "Il mio cuore esulta nel Signore, la mia fronte si eleva al Signore. Si apre la mia bocca contro chi mi odia, poiché gioisco per la tua salvezza.
2 There is no Holy One like Yahweh, (indeed, there is none but you) no Rock like our God.	2 Non vi è santo come il Signore -- poiché non vi è altri all'infuori di te -- né vi è rupe come il nostro Dio.
3 Do not keep talking so proudly, let no arrogance come from your mouth, for Yahweh is a wise God, histo weigh up deeds.	3 Non parlate più a lungo con aria superba, non esca parola arrogante dalla vostra bocca, perché il Signore è un Dio sapiente; da lui sono giudicate le azioni.
4 The bow of the mighty has been broken but those who were tottering are now braced with strength.	4 L'arco dei prodi è spezzato mentre i deboli si cingono di forza.
5 The ful fed are hiring themselves out for bread but the hungry need labour no more; the barren womanbears sevenfold but the mother of many is left desolate.	5 I sazi vanno al lavoro per il pane, mentre gli affamati si riposano. Perfino la sterile genera sette volte, mentre la madre di molti figli appassisce.
6 Yahweh gives death and life, brings down to Sheol and draws up;	6 Il Signore dà morte e dà vita, fa scendere agli inferi e ne fa risalire.
7 Yahweh makes poor and rich, he humbles and also exalts.	7 Il Signore rende poveri e rende ricchi, umilia, ma anche esalta;
8 He raises the poor from the dust, he lifts the needy from the dunghil to give them a place with princes,to assign them a seat of honour; for to Yahweh belong the pil ars of the earth, on these he has poised the world.	8 solleva dalla polvere il misero, innalza il povero dalle immondizie per farlo sedere con i prìncipi e gli assegna un trono di gloria: perché il Signore possiede le fondamenta della terra, e pone su di esse il mondo;
9 He safeguards the steps of his faithful but the wicked vanish in darkness (for human strength can winno victories).	9 veglia sui passi dei suoi devoti, mentre i perversi periscono nelle tenebre, poiché l'uomo non prevale per la forza.
10 Yahweh, his enemies are shattered, the Most High thunders in the heavens. Yahweh judges the endsof the earth, he endows his king with power, he raises up the strength of his Anointed.	10 Gli avversari del Signore saranno stroncati, l'Altissimo tuonerà dal cielo, il Signore giudicherà i confini della terra e darà potenza al suo re, e innalzerà la fronte del suo consacrato".
11 Elkanah then went home to Ramah, but the child stayed in Yahweh's service, in the presence of Elithe priest.	11 Poi Elkana se ne ritornò alla sua casa a Rama, mentre il bambino rimase al servizio del Signore alla presenza del sacerdote Eli.
12 Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels; they cared nothing for Yahweh	12 Ora i figli di Eli erano uomini perversi: essi non rispettavano il Signore
13 nor for what was due to the priests from the people. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest'sservant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being cooked;	13 né il diritto dei sacerdoti presso il popolo. Ogni volta che uno offriva un sacrificio, veniva il servo del sacerdote, mentre si cuoceva la carne, con in mano un forchettone
14 he would thrust this into cauldron or pan, or dish or pot, and the priest claimed for his own whateverthe fork brought up. That was how they behaved with all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.	14 e lo ficcava nel caldaio o nel calderone o nella pentola o nella marmitta: il sacerdote vi prendeva tutto quello che il forchettone tirava su. Così facevano con tutti gl'Israeliti che andavano là a Silo.
15 The priest's servant would even come up before the fat had been burnt and say to the person whowas making the sacrifice, 'Give the priest some meat for him to roast. He wil not accept boiled meat from you,only raw.'	15 Anche prima che avessero fatto bruciare il grasso, veniva il servo del sacerdote e diceva a colui che sacrificava: "Dammi della carne da arrostire per il sacerdote, egli infatti non accetterà carne cotta da te, ma cruda".
16 Then, if the person replied, 'Let the fat be burnt first, and then take for yourself whatever you choose,'he would retort, 'No! You must give it to me now or I shal take it by force.'	16 Se l'uomo gli rispondeva: "Prima lascia bruciare il grasso e poi prenditi quanto desideri", egli replicava: "No! Devi darla ora, altrimenti la prendo con la forza".
17 The young men's sin was very great in Yahweh's eyes, because they treated with contempt theoffering made to Yahweh.	17 Il peccato di quei giovani era molto grave davanti al Signore, poiché quegli uomini disonoravano le offerte del Signore.
18 Samuel was in Yahweh's service, a child wearing a linen loincloth.	18 Samuele stava al servizio del Signore, come un fanciullo, cinto di efod di lino.
19 His mother used to make him a little coat which she brought him each year when she came up withher husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.	19 Inoltre sua madre gli faceva un piccolo manto e glielo portava ogni anno quando saliva con suo marito ad offrire il sacrificio annuale.
20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, 'May Yahweh grant you an heir by this woman inexchange for the one which she has made over to Yahweh,' and they would go home.	20 Allora Eli benediceva Elkana e sua moglie dicendo: "Il Signore ti dia una discendenza da questa donna per il dono da lei fatto al Signore". Ed essi se ne ritornavano al loro paese.
21 Yahweh visited Hannah; she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile,the child Samuel grew up in Yahweh's presence.	21 Il Signore visitò Anna ed ella concepì e diede alla luce tre figli e due figlie. Intanto il fanciullo Samuele cresceva presso il Signore.
22 Although very old, Eli heard about everything that his sons were doing to all Israel,	22 Eli era molto vecchio. Udiva tutto quello che facevano i suoi figli all'intero Israele e che dormivano con le donne inservienti alla porta della tenda del convegno
23 and said, 'Why are you behaving as al the people say you are?	23 e disse loro: "Perché fate simili cose? Io sento parlare delle vostre cattive azioni da parte di tutto questo popolo.
24 No, my sons, what I hear reported by the people of Yahweh is not good.	24 No, figli miei, non è buona la fama che io odo circolare in mezzo al popolo del Signore!
25 If one person sins against another, God will be the arbiter, but if he sins against Yahweh, who wilintercede for him?' But they did not listen to their father's words, for Yahweh was bent on kil ing them.	25 Se un uomo pecca contro un uomo, Dio gli farà da arbitro, ma se un uomo pecca contro il Signore, chi gli farà da arbitro?". Ma essi non dettero ascolto alla voce del loro padre, poiché il Signore voleva farli perire.
26 Meanwhile, the child Samuel went on growing in stature and in favour both with Yahweh and withpeople.	26 Invece il giovane Samuele cresceva in statura e in bontà sia presso il Signore che presso gli uomini.
27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him, 'This is what Yahweh says, "Did I not reveal myself to yourfather's family when they were in Egypt as slaves in Pharaoh's household?	27 Un uomo di Dio andò da Eli e gli disse: "Così dice il Signore: "Certo! Io mi sono rivelato alla famiglia di tuo padre mentre era in Egitto sotto il dominio della casa del faraone,
28 Did I not single him out of al the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn theoffering, to carry the ephod in my presence; and did I not grant al the burnt offerings made by the Israelites toyour father's family?	28 l'ho scelta fra tutte le tribù d'Israele come mio sacerdote per salire sul mio altare, offrire incenso, portare l'efod davanti a me e ho concesso alla famiglia di tuo padre tutti gli olocausti dei figli d'Israele.
29 Why do you trample on the offering and on the sacrifice which I have ordered for my Dwelling, andhonour your sons more than me, by growing fat on the best of the offerings of Israel, my people?	29 Perché dunque disprezzate il mio sacrificio e la mia offerta che ho ordinato, e tu onori i tuoi figli più di me, ingrassandovi con la parte migliore di tutte le offerte d'Israele, mio popolo?
30 Whereas -- this is what Yahweh, God of Israel, declares -- I had promised that your family and yourfather's family would walk in my presence for ever, now, however -- this is what Yahweh declares -- nothing ofthe sort! Those who honour me I honour in my turn, and those who despise me wil be an object of contempt.	30 Perciò, oracolo del Signore, Dio d'Israele, io certo avevo detto che la tua casa e la casa di tuo padre avrebbero camminato davanti a me per sempre, ma adesso, oracolo del Signore, non sia mai!... Poiché io onoro quelli che mi onorano, ma quelli che mi disprezzano sono vilipesi.
31 Be sure, the days are coming when I shal cut off your strength and the strength of your father's family,so that no one in your family wil live to old age.	31 Ecco, verrà il tempo in cui stroncherò il tuo vigore e il vigore della casa di tuo padre, in modo che non ci sia un anziano nella tua casa.
32 Beside the Dwel ing, you wil see al the benefits that I shall confer on Israel, but no one in your familywil ever live to old age.	32 Vedrai, sempre tormentato, tutto il bene che sarà fatto a Israele. Nella tua casa non vi sarà mai più un anziano.
33 I shal keep one of you at my altar for his eyes to go blind and his soul to wither, but the bulk of yourfamily wil die by the sword.	33 Tuttavia non strapperò qualcuno dei tuoi dal mio altare per consumare i tuoi occhi e affliggere la tua anima, ma tutta la progenie della tua casa morirà nel fiore dell'età.
34 ' "What happens to your two sons Hophni and Phinehas will be a sign for you: on the same day bothwil die.	34 Il segno per te sarà quello che accadrà ai tuoi due figli, Ofni e Finees: moriranno tutti e due nello stesso giorno.
35 I shal raise myself a faithful priest, who wil do as I intend and as I desire. I shal build him an enduringHouse and he wil walk in the presence of my Anointed for ever.	35 E susciterò per me un sacerdote fedele che agirà secondo quello che è nel mio cuore e nella mia anima. Gli edificherò una casa duratura ed egli camminerà davanti al mio consacrato per sempre.
36 The members of your House who survive wil come and beg him on their knees for a silver coin and aloaf of bread and say: Please give me some priestly work, so that I can have a scrap of bread to eat." '	36 Ogni superstite della tua casa andrà a prostrarsi davanti a lui per un poco d'argento e un tozzo di pane, e dirà: Ammettimi a qualche ufficio sacerdotale, affinché possa mangiare un boccone di pane!".
