1 Hannah then prayed as fol ows: My heart exults in Yahweh, in my God is my strength lifted up, mymouth derides my foes, for I rejoice in your deliverance.	1 - «Il cuor mio ha esultato nel Signore, e il mio corno venne esaltato nel mio Dio; la mia bocca s'è dilatata contro i miei nemici, poichè io mi son rallegrata nella tua salute.
2 There is no Holy One like Yahweh, (indeed, there is none but you) no Rock like our God.	2 Non vi è chi sia santo come lo è il Signore, poichè non ve n'è alcun altro all'infuori di te: e non v'è chi sia forte come il Dio nostro.
3 Do not keep talking so proudly, let no arrogance come from your mouth, for Yahweh is a wise God, histo weigh up deeds.	3 Non moltiplicate i discorsi orgogliosi per vantarvi:gli antichi discorsi si allontanino dalla vostra bocca, perchè il Signore è il Dio delle scienze, e gli son noti tutti i pensieri.
4 The bow of the mighty has been broken but those who were tottering are now braced with strength.	4 L'arco dei forti è stato spezzato, i deboli son stati cinti di forza.
5 The ful fed are hiring themselves out for bread but the hungry need labour no more; the barren womanbears sevenfold but the mother of many is left desolate.	5 Quei ch'eran satolli si sono allogati per aver pane, e quei che pativan la fame son stati satollati; fino a che la sterile fu madre di numerosa prole, e colei che aveva molti figli perdette la forza.
6 Yahweh gives death and life, brings down to Sheol and draws up;	6 Il Signore fa morire e fa vivere, fa scendere agli ìnferi e ne riconduce;
7 Yahweh makes poor and rich, he humbles and also exalts.	7 il Signore fa impoverire ed arricchisce, umilia e esalta.
8 He raises the poor from the dust, he lifts the needy from the dunghil to give them a place with princes,to assign them a seat of honour; for to Yahweh belong the pil ars of the earth, on these he has poised the world.	8 Solleva il misero dalla polvere e innalza il povero dal letamaio, perchè segga coi principi, e occupi un trono di gloria. Poichè del Signore sono i cardini della terra, e sovr'essi ha posato il mondo.
9 He safeguards the steps of his faithful but the wicked vanish in darkness (for human strength can winno victories).	9 Preserva i piedi de' suoi santi, ma gli empi ammutoliranno nelle tenebre; perchè non per sua forza l'uomo sarà forte.
10 Yahweh, his enemies are shattered, the Most High thunders in the heavens. Yahweh judges the endsof the earth, he endows his king with power, he raises up the strength of his Anointed.	10 Il Signore paventeranno i suoi nemicie su di essi egli tonerà dal cielo. Il Signore giudicherà i confini della terra, darà il comando al suo re, ed esalterà il corno del suo Cristo.»
11 Elkanah then went home to Ramah, but the child stayed in Yahweh's service, in the presence of Elithe priest.	11 Elcana se ne andò poscia a casa sua in Ramata, e il fanciullo stette a servire nel cospetto del Signore sotto gli occhi del sacerdote Eli.
12 Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels; they cared nothing for Yahweh	12 Ora i figli di Eli erano figli di Belial, e non conoscevano il Signore,
13 nor for what was due to the priests from the people. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest'sservant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being cooked;	13 nè il dovere dei sacerdoti verso il popolo; ma quando qualcuno immolava una vittima veniva il servo del sacerdote, e mentre cocevansi le carni, tenendo in mano una forchetta a tre denti,
14 he would thrust this into cauldron or pan, or dish or pot, and the priest claimed for his own whateverthe fork brought up. That was how they behaved with all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.	14 la metteva nel paiuolo, o nella caldaia, o nella pentola, o nella marmitta, e tutto quello che la forchetta tirava su, il sacerdote lo pigliava per sè. Così facevano con ogni israelita che veniva in Silo.
15 The priest's servant would even come up before the fat had been burnt and say to the person whowas making the sacrifice, 'Give the priest some meat for him to roast. He wil not accept boiled meat from you,only raw.'	15 Parimenti prima di bruciar l'adipe arrivava il servo del sacerdote e diceva al sacrificante: «Dammi un po' di carne da far cuocere pel sacerdote, giacchè non prenderò da te carne cotta, ma cruda».
16 Then, if the person replied, 'Let the fat be burnt first, and then take for yourself whatever you choose,'he would retort, 'No! You must give it to me now or I shal take it by force.'	16 E se l'immolante diceva: «Si bruci oggi prima l'adipe secondo l'usanza e poi prendine quanto la tua anima desidera», gli rispondeva: «No, no; tu me la devi dare ora; se no, me la prenderò per forza».
17 The young men's sin was very great in Yahweh's eyes, because they treated with contempt theoffering made to Yahweh.	17 Il peccato quindi di quei giovani era grave assai davanti a Dio, perchè distoglievano la gente dal far sacrifici al Signore.
18 Samuel was in Yahweh's service, a child wearing a linen loincloth.	18 Frattanto Samuele, giovinetto, serviva dinanzi al Signore, cinto di un efod di lino.
19 His mother used to make him a little coat which she brought him each year when she came up withher husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.	19 Sua madre gli faceva una piccola tunica e gliela portava nei giorni prescritti, quando saliva con suo marito ad immolare l'ostia solenne.
20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, 'May Yahweh grant you an heir by this woman inexchange for the one which she has made over to Yahweh,' and they would go home.	20 Ed Eli benedisse Elcana e sua moglie, dicendo: «Il Signore ti dia prole da questa donna in ricompensa del prestito che hai fatto al Signore». E, ritornati a casa,
21 Yahweh visited Hannah; she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile,the child Samuel grew up in Yahweh's presence.	21 visitò il Signore Anna, la quale concepì e diede alla luce tre figli e due figliuole. Il fanciullo Samuele poi cresceva presso il Signore.
22 Although very old, Eli heard about everything that his sons were doing to all Israel,	22 Eli era assai vecchio, e, avendo appreso ciò che facevano i suoi figli verso tutto Israele e come dormivano colle donne che vegliavano all'entrata del tabernacolo,
23 and said, 'Why are you behaving as al the people say you are?	23 disse loro: «Perchè compite azioni così vituperevoli, come mi vien riferito da tutto il popolo?
24 No, my sons, what I hear reported by the people of Yahweh is not good.	24 Non fate così, figli miei, poichè non sono buone le voci che mi si riferiscono. Voi fate prevaricare il popolo del Signore.
25 If one person sins against another, God will be the arbiter, but if he sins against Yahweh, who wilintercede for him?' But they did not listen to their father's words, for Yahweh was bent on kil ing them.	25 Se uno pecca contro un uomo, si può placare Dio per lui; ma se pecca contro il Signore chi intercederà per lui?». Essi però non ascoltarono la voce del padre loro, giacchè il Signore li voleva far morire.
26 Meanwhile, the child Samuel went on growing in stature and in favour both with Yahweh and withpeople.	26 Intanto Samuele progrediva e si faceva grande ed era gradito tanto a Dio quanto agli uomini.
27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him, 'This is what Yahweh says, "Did I not reveal myself to yourfather's family when they were in Egypt as slaves in Pharaoh's household?	27 Un uomo di Dio venne a Eli e gli disse: «Ecco ciò che dice il Signore: - Non mi sono io rivelato apertamente alla casa del padre tuo, quando essi erano in Egitto nella casa di Faraone?
28 Did I not single him out of al the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn theoffering, to carry the ephod in my presence; and did I not grant al the burnt offerings made by the Israelites toyour father's family?	28 E io lo scelsi fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per mio sacerdote, perchè salisse al mio altare a bruciarvi l'incenso e indossasse l'efod dinanzi a me; e diedi alla casa del padre tuo porzione di tutti i sacrifici dei figli d'Israele.
29 Why do you trample on the offering and on the sacrifice which I have ordered for my Dwelling, andhonour your sons more than me, by growing fat on the best of the offerings of Israel, my people?	29 Perchè avete dato dei calci alla mia vittima e ai miei doni, che io comandai d'offrire nel tempio, e tu hai onorato i tuoi figli più di me, fino a saziarti delle primizie d'ogni sacrificio d'Israele mio popolo? -
30 Whereas -- this is what Yahweh, God of Israel, declares -- I had promised that your family and yourfather's family would walk in my presence for ever, now, however -- this is what Yahweh declares -- nothing ofthe sort! Those who honour me I honour in my turn, and those who despise me wil be an object of contempt.	30 Perciò il Signore Dio d'Israele dice: - Io ho detto e dichiarato che la tua casa e la casa del padre tuo avrebbe prestato servizio al mio cospetto in perpetuo; ora invece, dice il Signore, lungi da me tal cosa; ma glorificherò chiunque mi avrà glorificato, e saranno avviliti quelli che mi sprezzano.
31 Be sure, the days are coming when I shal cut off your strength and the strength of your father's family,so that no one in your family wil live to old age.	31 Ormai è vicino il tempo in cui troncherò il tuo braccio e quello della casa del padre tuo in modo che non ci sia più nessun vecchio in casa tua.
32 Beside the Dwel ing, you wil see al the benefits that I shall confer on Israel, but no one in your familywil ever live to old age.	32 E tu vedrai il tuo emulo nel tempio in mezzo a tutte le prosperità d'Israele; ma non vi sarà più nessun vecchio in casa tua.
33 I shal keep one of you at my altar for his eyes to go blind and his soul to wither, but the bulk of yourfamily wil die by the sword.	33 Tuttavia non leverò interamente dal mio aìtare i tuoi discendenti, ma farò che i tuoi occhi si offuschino e languiscano le tue forze e la maggior parte di quei della tua casa muoia appena raggiunta l'età virile.
34 ' "What happens to your two sons Hophni and Phinehas will be a sign for you: on the same day bothwil die.	34 E ti servirà di segno quello che accadrà ai tuoi figliuoli, Ofni e Finees; ambedue morranno in uno stesso giorno.
35 I shal raise myself a faithful priest, who wil do as I intend and as I desire. I shal build him an enduringHouse and he wil walk in the presence of my Anointed for ever.	35 Io poi susciterò per me un sacerdote fedele, che agirà secondo il mio cuore e secondo l'anima mia: e gli edificherò una casa fedele ed egli camminerà per sempre dinanzi al mio Cristo.
36 The members of your House who survive wil come and beg him on their knees for a silver coin and aloaf of bread and say: Please give me some priestly work, so that I can have a scrap of bread to eat." '	36 Allora chiunque rimarrà della tua casa verrà, affinchè si preghi per lui e offrirà una moneta d'argento e una focaccia di pane e dirà: "Ammettimi, di grazia, a compiere qualche funzione sacerdotale, perchè possa anch'io mangiare un boccon di pane" -».
