NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now,and there was no longer any sea.1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bridedressed for her husband.2 I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Then I heard a loud voice cal from the throne, 'Look, here God lives among human beings. He willmake his home among them; they will be his people, and he wil be their God, God-with-them.3 I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them (as their God).
He wil wipe away all tears from their eyes; there will be no more death, and no more mourning orsadness or pain. The world of the past has gone.'4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, (for) the old order has passed away."
Then the One sitting on the throne spoke. 'Look, I am making the whole of creation new. Write this,"What I am saying is trustworthy and will come true."5 The one who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." Then he said, "Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true."
Then he said to me, 'It has already happened. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and theEnd. I wil give water from the wel of life free to anybody who is thirsty;6 He said to me, "They are accomplished. I (am) the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water.
anyone who proves victorious wil inherit these things; and I will be his God and he wil be my son.7 The victor will inherit these gifts, and I shall be his God, and he will be my son.
But the legacy for cowards, for those who break their word, or worship obscenities, for murderers andthe sexual y immoral, and for sorcerers, worshippers of false gods or any other sort of liars, is the second deathin the burning lake of sulphur.'8 But as for cowards, the unfaithful, the depraved, murderers, the unchaste, sorcerers, idol-worshipers, and deceivers of every sort, their lot is in the burning pool of fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
One of the seven angels that had the seven bowls ful of the seven final plagues came to speak to meand said, 'Come here and I wil show you the bride that the Lamb has married.'9 One of the seven angels who held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."
In the spirit, he carried me to the top of a very high mountain, and showed me Jerusalem, the holycity, coming down out of heaven from God.10 He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.
It had al the glory of God and glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond.11 It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal.
Its wal was of a great height and had twelve gates; at each of the twelve gates there was an angel, and over the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel;12 It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where twelve angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed, (the names) of the twelve tribes of the Israelites.
on the east there were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on thewest three gates.13 There were three gates facing east, three north, three south, and three west.
The city wal s stood on twelve foundation stones, each one of which bore the name of one of thetwelve apostles of the Lamb.14 The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation, on which were inscribed the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The angel that was speaking to me was carrying a gold measuring rod to measure the city and itsgates and wal .15 The one who spoke to me held a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
The plan of the city is perfectly square, its length the same as its breadth. He measured the city withhis rod and it was twelve thousand furlongs, equal in length and in breadth, and equal in height.16 The city was square, its length the same as (also) its width. He measured the city with the rod and found it fifteen hundred miles in length and width and height.
He measured its wal , and this was a hundred and forty-four cubits high -- by human measurements.17 He also measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits according to the standard unit of measurement the angel used.
The wall was built of diamond, and the city of pure gold, like clear glass.18 The wall was constructed of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass.
The foundations of the city wall were faced with al kinds of precious stone: the first with diamond, thesecond lapis lazuli, the third turquoise, the fourth crystal,19 The foundations of the city wall were decorated with every precious stone; the first course of stones was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
the fifth agate, the sixth ruby, the seventh gold quartz, the eighth malachite, the ninth topaz, the tenthemerald, the eleventh sapphire and the twelfth amethyst.20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh hyacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate being made of a single pearl, and the main street ofthe city was pure gold, transparent as glass.21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made from a single pearl; and the street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass.
I could not see any temple in the city since the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb were themselvesthe temple,22 I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb.
and the city did not need the sun or the moon for light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God, andthe Lamb was a lighted torch for it.23 The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb.
The nations wil come to its light and the kings of the earth wil bring it their treasures.24 The nations will walk by its light, and to it the kings of the earth will bring their treasure.
Its gates will never be closed by day -- and there will be no night there-25 During the day its gates will never be shut, and there will be no night there.
and the nations wil come, bringing their treasure and their wealth.26 The treasure and wealth of the nations will be brought there,
Nothing unclean may come into it: no one who does what is loathsome or false, but only those whoare listed in the Lamb's book of life.27 but nothing unclean will enter it, nor any (one) who does abominable things or tells lies. Only those will enter whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
