Hebrews 9

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The first covenant also had its laws governing worship and its sanctuary, a sanctuary on this earth.	1 La première alliance, elle aussi, avait donc des institutions cultuelles ainsi qu'un sanctuaire, celuide ce monde.
2 There was a tent which comprised two compartments: the first, in which the lamp-stand, the table andthe loaves of permanent offering were kept, was cal ed the Holy Place;	2 Une tente, en effet - la tente antérieure - avait été dressée; là se trouvaient le chandelier, la table, etl'exposition des pains; c'est celle qui est appelée: le Saint.
3 then beyond the second veil, a second compartment which was called the Holy of Holies	3 Puis, derrière le second voile était une tente appelée Saint des Saints,
4 to which belonged the gold altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant, plated al over with gold. Inthis were kept the gold jar containing the manna, Aaron's branch that grew the buds, and the tables of thecovenant.	4 comportant un autel des parfums en or et l'arche de l'alliance entièrement recouverte d'or, danslaquelle se trouvaient une urne d'or contenant la manne, le rameau d'Aaron qui avait poussé, et les tables del'alliance;
5 On top of it were the glorious winged creatures, overshadowing the throne of mercy. This is not the timeto go into detail about this.	5 puis au-dessus, les chérubins de gloire couvrant d'ombre le propitiatoire. Ce n'est pas le moment deparler de tout cela en détail.
6 Under these provisions, priests go regularly into the outer tent to carry out their acts of worship,	6 Tout étant ainsi disposé, les prêtres entrent en tout temps dans la première tente pour s'acquitter duservice cultuel.
7 but the second tent is entered only once a year, and then only by the high priest who takes in the bloodto make an offering for his own and the people's faults of inadvertence.	7 Dans la seconde, au contraire, seul le grand prêtre pénètre, et une seule fois par an, non sans s'êtremuni de sang qu'il offre pour ses manquements et ceux du peuple.
8 By this, the Holy Spirit means us to see that as long as the old tent stands, the way into the holy placeis not opened up;	8 L'Esprit Saint montre ainsi que la voie du sanctuaire n'est pas ouverte, tant que la première Tentesubsiste.
9 it is a symbol for this present time. None of the gifts and sacrifices offered under these regulations canpossibly bring any worshipper to perfection in his conscience;	9 C'est là une figure pour la période actuelle; sous son régime on offre des dons et des sacrifices, quin'ont pas le pouvoir de rendre parfait l'adorateur en sa conscience;
10 they are rules about outward life, connected with food and drink and washing at various times, whichare in force only until the time comes to set things right.	10 ce sont des règles pour la chair, ne concernant que les aliments, les boissons, diverses ablutions, etimposées seulement jusqu'au temps de la réforme.
11 But now Christ has come, as the high priest of al the blessings which were to come. He has passedthrough the greater, the more perfect tent, not made by human hands, that is, not of this created order;	11 Le Christ, lui, survenu comme grand prêtre des biens à venir, traversant la tente plus grande etplus parfaite qui n'est pas faite de main d'homme, c'est-à-dire qui n'est pas de cette création,
12 and he has entered the sanctuary once and for all, taking with him not the blood of goats and bulcalves, but his own blood, having won an eternal redemption.	12 entra une fois pour toutes dans le sanctuaire, non pas avec du sang de boucs et de jeunes taureaux,mais avec son propre sang, nous ayant acquis une rédemption éternelle.
13 The blood of goats and bul s and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkled on those who have incurreddefilement, may restore their bodily purity.	13 Si en effet du sang de boucs et de taureaux et de la cendre de génisse, dont on asperge ceux quisont souillés, les sanctifient en leur procurant la pureté de la chair,
14 How much more wil the blood of Christ, who offered himself, blameless as he was, to God throughthe eternal Spirit, purify our conscience from dead actions so that we can worship the living God.	14 combien plus le sang du Christ, qui par un Esprit éternel s'est offert lui-même sans tache à Dieu,purifiera-t-il notre conscience des oeuvres mortes pour que nous rendions un culte au Dieu vivant.
15 This makes him the mediator of a new covenant, so that, now that a death has occurred to redeem thesins committed under an earlier covenant, those who have been cal ed to an eternal inheritance may receive thepromise.	15 Voilà pourquoi il est médiateur d'une nouvelle alliance, afin que, sa mort ayant eu lieu pourracheter les transgressions de la première alliance, ceux qui sont appelés reçoivent l'héritage éternel promis.
16 Now wherever a wil is in question, the death of the testator must be established;	16 Car là où il y a testament, il est nécessaire que la mort du testateur soit constatée.
17 a testament comes into effect only after a death, since it has no force while the testator is stil alive.	17 Un testament, en effet, n'est valide qu'à la suite du décès, puisqu'il n'entre jamais en vigueur tantque vit le testateur.
18 That is why even the earlier covenant was inaugurated with blood,	18 De là vient que même la première alliance n'a pas été inaugurée sans effusion de sang.
19 and why, after Moses had promulgated al the commandments of the Law to the people, he took thecalves' blood, the goats' blood and some water, and with these he sprinkled the book itself and all the people,using scarlet wool and hyssop;	19 Effectivement, lorsque Moïse eut promulgué au peuple entier chaque prescription selon la teneurde la Loi, il prit le sang des jeunes taureaux et des boucs, avec de l'eau, de la laine écarlate et de l'hysope, et ilaspergea le livre lui-même et tout le peuple
20 saying as he did so: This is the blood of the covenant that God has made with you.	20 en disant: Ceci est le sang de l'alliance que Dieu a prescrite pour vous.
21 And he sprinkled both the tent and all the liturgical vessels with blood in the same way.	21 Puis, de la même manière, il aspergea de sang la Tente et tous les objets du culte.
22 In fact, according to the Law, practical y every purification takes place by means of blood; and if thereis no shedding of blood, there is no remission.	22 D'ailleurs, selon la Loi, presque tout est purifié par le sang, et sans effusion de sang il n'y a pointde rémission.
23 Only the copies of heavenly things are purified in this way; the heavenly things themselves have to bepurified by a higher sort of sacrifice than this.	23 Il est donc nécessaire, d'une part que les copies des réalités célestes soient purifiées de cettemanière, d'autre part que les réalités célestes elles-mêmes le soient aussi, mais par des sacrifices plus excellentsque ceux d'ici-bas.
24 It is not as though Christ had entered a man-made sanctuary which was merely a model of the realone; he entered heaven itself, so that he now appears in the presence of God on our behalf.	24 Ce n'est pas, en effet, dans un sanctuaire fait de main d'homme, dans une image de l'authentique,que le Christ est entré, mais dans le ciel lui-même, afin de paraître maintenant devant la face de Dieu en notrefaveur.
25 And he does not have to offer himself again and again, as the high priest goes into the sanctuary yearafter year with the blood that is not his own,	25 Ce n'est pas non plus pour s'offrir lui-même à plusieurs reprises, comme fait le grand prêtre quientre chaque année dans le sanctuaire avec un sang qui n'est pas le sien,
26 or else he would have had to suffer over and over again since the world began. As it is, he has madehis appearance once and for al , at the end of the last age, to do away with sin by sacrificing himself.	26 car alors il aurait dû souffrir plusieurs fois depuis la fondation du monde. Or c'est maintenant, unefois pour toutes, à la fin des temps, qu'il s'est manifesté pour abolir le péché par son sacrifice.
27 Since human beings die only once, after which comes judgement,	27 Et comme les hommes ne meurent qu'une fois, après quoi il y a un jugement,
28 so Christ too, having offered himself only once to bear the sin of many, will manifest himself a secondtime, sin being no more, to those who are waiting for him, to bring them salvation.	28 ainsi le Christ, après s'être offert une seule fois pour enlever les péchés d'un grand nombre,apparaîtra une seconde fois - hors du péché - à ceux qui l'attendent, pour leur donner le salut.
