Joshua 24

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Joshua gathered al the tribes of Israel together at Shechem; he then summoned al the elders ofIsrael, its leaders, judges and officials, and they presented themselves in God's presence.	1 Josué reunió a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem, llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a sus jefes, jueces y escribas que se situaron en presencia de Dios.
2 Joshua then said to al the people: 'Yahweh, the God of Israel, says this, "From time immemorial, yourancestors, Terah, father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the River, and served other gods.	2 Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: «Esto dice Yahveh el Dios de Israel: Al otro lado del Río habitaban antaño vuestros padres, Téraj, padre de Abraham y de Najor, y servían a otros dioses.
3 I then brought your ancestor Abraham from beyond the River and led him through the length andbreadth of Canaan. I increased his descendants and I gave him Isaac.	3 Yo tomé a vuestro padre Abraham del otro lado del Río y le hice recorrer toda la tierra de Canaán, multipliqué su descendencia y le di por hijo a Isaac.
4 To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave possession of the mountainous country of Seir.Jacob and his sons went down into Egypt.	4 A Isaac le di por hijos a Jacob y Esaú. A Esaú le di en propiedad la montaña de Seír. Jacob y sus hijos bajaron a Egipto.
5 I then sent Moses and Aaron, and plagued Egypt with the wonders that I worked there; final y I broughtyou out.	5 Envié después a Moisés y Aarón y herí a Egipto con los prodigios que obré en medio de él. Luego os saqué de allí.
6 I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, and you came to the Sea; the Egyptians pursued your ancestorswith chariots and horsemen, to the Sea of Reeds.	6 Saqué a vuestros padres de Egipto y llegasteis al mar; los egipcios persiguieron a vuestros padres con los carros y sus guerreros hasta el mar de Suf.
7 They then called to Yahweh, and he spread a thick fog between you and the Egyptians, and made thesea go back on them and cover them. You saw with your own eyes what I did in Egypt. Then, for a long while,you lived in the desert.	7 Clamaron entonces a Yahveh, el cual tendió unas densas nieblas entre vosotros y los egipcios, e hizo volver sobre ellos el mar, que los cubrió. Visteis con vuestros propios ojos lo que hice con Egipto; luego habitasteis largo tiempo en el desierto.
8 I then brought you into the country of the Amorites, who used to live on the further side of the Jordan;they made war on you and I put them at your mercy; after which, you took possession of their country, since Idestroyed them before you.	8 Os introduje después en la tierra de los amorreos, que habitaban al otro lado del Jordán; ellos os declararon la guerra y yo los entregué en vuestras manos; y así pudisteis poseer su tierra, porque yo los exterminé delante de vosotros.
9 Next, Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, rose to make war on Israel, and sent for Balaam son of Beorto come and curse you.	9 Después se levantó Balaq, hijo de Sippor, rey de Moab, para pelear contra Israel, y mandó llamar a Balaam, hijo de Beor, para que os maldijera.
10 But I would not listen to Balaam; instead, he had to bless you, and I saved you from his power.	10 Pero no quise escuchar a Balaam, y hasta tuvo que bendeciros; así os salvé yo de su mano.
11 "You then crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho, but the inhabitants of Jericho made war on you:Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I put them al at your mercy.	11 «Pasasteis el Jordán y llegasteis a Jericó; pero las gentes de Jericó os hicieron la guerra, igual que los amorreos, los perizitas, los cananeos, los hititas, los guirgasitas, los jivitas y los jebuseos, pero yo los entregué en vuestras manos.
12 I sent hornets ahead of you, which drove out the two Amorite kings before you; this was not the workof your sword or of your bow.	12 Mandé delante de vosotros avispas que expulsaron, antes que llegarais, a los dos reyes de los amorreos; no fue con tu espada ni con tu arco.
13 And now I have given you a country for which you have not toiled, towns you have not built, althoughyou live in them, vineyards and olive groves you have not planted, although you eat their fruit."	13 Os he dado una tierra que no os ha costado fatiga, unas ciudades que no habéis construido y en las que sin embargo habitáis, viñas y olivares que no habéis plantado y de las que os alimentáis.
14 'So now, fear Yahweh and serve him truly and sincerely; banish the gods whom your ancestorsserved beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh.	14 «Ahora, pues, temed a Yahveh y servidle perfectamente, con fidelidad; apartaos de los dioses a los que sirvieron vuestros padres más allá del Río y en Egipto y servid a Yahveh.
15 But if serving Yahweh seems a bad thing to you, today you must make up your minds whom you domean to serve, whether the gods whom your ancestors served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites inwhose country you are now living. As regards my family and me, we shal serve Yahweh.'	15 Pero, si no os parece bien servir a Yahveh, elegid hoy a quién habéis de servir, o a los dioses a quienes servían vuestros padres más allá del Río, o a los dioses de los amorreos en cuyo país habitáis ahora. Yo y mi familia serviremos a Yahveh».
16 The people replied, 'Far be it from us to desert Yahweh and to serve other gods!	16 El pueblo respondió: «Lejos de nosotros abandonar a Yahveh para servir a otros dioses.
17 Yahweh our God was the one who brought us and our ancestors here from Egypt, from the place ofslave-labour, who worked those great wonders before our eyes and who kept us safe all along the way wetravel ed and among all the peoples through whom we passed.	17 Porque Yahveh nuestro Dios es el que nos hizo subir, a nosotros y a nuestros padres, de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre, y el que delante de nuestros ojos obró tan grandes señales y nos guardó por todo el camino que recorrimos y en todos los pueblos por los que pasamos.
18 And Yahweh has driven all the nations out for us, including the Amorites who used to live in thecountry. We too shal serve Yahweh, for he is our God.'	18 Además Yahveh expulsó delante de nosotros a todos esos pueblos y a los amorreos que habitaban en el país. También nosotros serviremos a Yahveh, porque él es nuestro Dios».
19 Joshua then said to the people, 'You will not be able to serve Yahweh, since he is a holy God, he is ajealous God who wil not tolerate either your misdeeds or your sins.	19 Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: «No podréis servir a Yahveh, porque es un Dios santo, es un Dios celoso, que no perdonará ni vuestras rebeldías ni vuestros pecados.
20 If you desert Yahweh and serve the foreigners' gods, he will turn and maltreat you anew and, in spiteof having been good to you in the past, wil destroy you.'	20 Si abandonáis a Yahveh para servir a los dioses del extranjero, él a su vez traerá el mal sobre vosotros y acabará con vosotros, después de haberos hecho tanto bien».
21 The people replied to Joshua, 'No! Yahweh is the one we mean to serve.'	21 El pueblo respondió a Josué: «No; nosotros serviremos a Yahveh».
22 Joshua then said to the people, 'You are witnesses to yourselves that you have chosen Yahweh, toserve him.' They replied, 'Witnesses we are!'	22 Josué dijo al pueblo: «Vosotros sois testigos contra vosotros mismos de que habéis elegido a Yahveh para servirle». Respondieron ellos: «¡Testigos somos!» -
23 'Then banish the foreign gods which you have with you and give your al egiance to Yahweh, God ofIsrael!'	23 «Entonces, apartad los dioses del extranjero que hay en medio de vosotros e inclinad vuestro corazón hacia Yahveh, Dios de Israel».
24 The people replied to Joshua, 'Yahweh our God is the one whom we shall serve; his voice we shalobey!'	24 El pueblo respondió a Josué: «A Yahveh nuestro Dios serviremos y a sus voz atenderemos».
25 That day Joshua made a covenant for the people; he laid down a statute and ordinance for them atShechem.	25 Aquél día, Josué pactó una alianza para el pueblo; le impuso decretos y normas en Siquem.
26 Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. He then took a large stone and set it upthere, under the oak tree in Yahweh's sanctuary.	26 Josué escribió estas palabras en el libro de la Ley de Dios. Tomó luego una gran piedra y la plantó allí, al pie de la encina que hay en el santuario de Yahveh.
27 Joshua then said to all the people, 'Look, this stone will be a witness to us, since it has heard al thewords that Yahweh has spoken to us: it wil be a witness against you, in case you should deny your God.'	27 Josué dijo al todo el pueblo: «Mirad, esta piedra será testigo contra nosotros, pues ha oído todas las palabras que Yahveh ha hablado con nosotros; ella será testigo contra vosotros para que no reneguéis de vuestro Dios».
28 Joshua then dismissed the people, every one to his own heritage.	28 Y Josué despidió al pueblo cada uno a su heredad.
29 After this, Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, died; he was a hundred and ten years old.	29 Después de estos acontecimientos, murió Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo de Yahveh, a la edad de 110 años.
30 He was buried on the estate which he had received as his heritage, at Timnath-Serah which lies inthe highlands of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.	30 Fue enterrado en el término de su heredad, en Timnat Séraj, que está en la montaña de Efraím, al norte del monte Gaás.
31 Israel served Yahweh throughout the lifetime of Joshua and throughout the lifetime of those elderswho outlived Joshua and had known al the deeds which Yahweh had done for the sake of Israel.	31 Israel sirvió a Yahveh todos los días de Josué y todos los días de los ancianos que siguieron viviendo después de Josué y que sabían todas las hazañas que Yahveh había hecho en favor de Israel.
32 As regards the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought from Egypt, these were buried atShechem in the plot of ground which Jacob had bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamorfather of Shechem, and which had become the heritage of the sons of Joseph.	32 Los huesos de José, que los hijos de Israel habían subido de Egipto, fueron sepultados en Siquem, en la parcela de campo que había comprado Jacob a los hijos de Jamor, padre de Siquem, por cien pesos, y que pasó a ser heredad de los hijos de José.
33 Eleazar son of Aaron then died and was buried at Gibeah, the town of his son Phinehas, which hadbeen given to him in the highlands of Ephraim.	33 También Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, murió y lo enterraron en Guibeá, ciudad de su hijo Pinjás, que le había sido dada en la montaña de Efraím.
