1 The portion of the tribe of Manasseh, who was in fact Joseph's first-born -- went to Machir, Manasseh'sfirst-born, father of Gilead, for he was a warrior; he had Gilead and Bashan.	1 Questa è la parte toccata in sorte alla tribù di Manasse, primogenito di Giuseppe: a Machir, primogenito di Manasse e padre di Galaad, che fu uomo guerriero e possedè il paese di Galaad e dì Basan;
2 The other sons of Manasseh had theirs, by clans: for the sons of Abiezer, for the sons of Helek, for thesons of Asriel, for the sons of Shechem, for the sons of Hepher, and for the sons of Shemida: these were themale children of Manasseh son of Joseph, by clans.	2 al resto dei figli di Manasse, secondo le loro famiglie, ai figli di Abiezer, ai figli di Elee, ai figli di Esriel, ai figli di Sechem, ai figli di Efer, ai figli di Semida: questi sono i figli maschi di Manasse, figlio di Giuseppe, divisi se condo le loro parentele.
3 Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons but onlydaughters, whose names were these: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	3 Ma Salfaad figlio di Efer, figlio di Galaad, figlio di Machir, figlio di Manasse, non ebbe figli, ma soltanto figlie, i nomi delle quali sono questi: Maala, Noa, già, Melca, Tersa.
4 These approached the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and the leaders, and said, 'Yahweh orderedMoses to give us a heritage among our brothers.' In compliance with Yahweh's order, therefore, they were given a heritage among their father's brothers.	4 Or esse si presentarono dinanzi al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè figlio di Nun e ai principi, e dissero: « Il Signore ordinò per mezzo di Mosè che ci fosse dato un possesso in mezzo ai nostri fratelli ». E secondo il comando del Signore fu dato loro un possesso in mezzo ai fratelli del padre loro.
5 In this way ten portions fel to Manasseh, apart from Gilead and Bashan lying on the further side of theJordan,	5 A Manasse, oltre la terra di Galaad e di Basan al di là del Giordano, toccarono dieci parti;
6 since Manasseh's daughters received a heritage as well as his sons. Gilead itself belonged toManasseh's other sons.	6 perchè le figlie di Manasse ebbero eredità in mezzo ai di lui figli. La terra di Galaad toccò in sorte agli altri figli di Manasse.
7 On the side of Asher, the frontier of Manasseh was the Michmethath, which is opposite Shechem, andthence continued to the right to Jashib, which is at the spring of Tappuah.	7 E il confine di Manasse fu da Aser fino a Macmetat, che guarda Sichem; si e stende a destra presso gli abitanti del fonte di Tafua;
8 The territory of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah on Manasseh's border belonged to thesons of Ephraim.	8 il territorio di Tafua era toccato in sorte a Manasse, ma, essendone ai confini, appartiene ai figli d'Efraim.
9 The boundary went down to the Torrent of Kanah; south of the Torrent were the towns of Ephraim,excluding those owned by Ephraim among the towns of Manasseh; the boundary of Manasseh was north of theTorrent and reached as far as the sea.	9 Poi il confine scende alla valle del canneto, a mezzogiorno del torrente delle città di Efraim, che sono in mezzo alle città di Manasse: il confine di Manasse dalla parte settentrionale del torrente e va a finire al mare;
10 The south belonged to Ephraim and the north to Manasseh and reached as far as the sea; theytouched Asher to the north and Issachar to the east.	10 cosicchè il territorio di Efraim è a Sud, quello di Manasse a Nord, e l'uno e l'altro son chiusi dal mare e si con giungono a settentrione colla tribù di Aser, a levante colla tribù d'Issacar.
11 With Issachar and Asher, Manasseh shared Beth-Shean and its dependent towns, Ibleam and itsdependent towns, the inhabitants of Dor and of its dependent towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and Megiddoand of their dependent towns: the Three of the Slopes.	11 E Manasse ebbe per eredità in Issacar e in Aser, Betsan coi suoi villaggi, Ieblam coi suoi villaggi, gli abitanti di Dor coi loro borghi, gli abitanti di Endor coi loro borghi, gli abitanti di Tenac coi loro borghi, gli abitanti di Mageddo coi loro borghi, e la terza (parte della città di Nofet.
12 But because the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of these towns, the Canaanitesmanaged to live on in that territory.	12 I figli di Manasse non poteron distruggere queste città, e il Cananeo ardì restare nel suo paese;
13 When, however, the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour,though they never dispossessed them.	13 ma quando i figli d'Israele si furono rinforzati, assoggettarono i Cananei, se li fecero tributari, senza però ucciderli.
14 The sons of Joseph spoke as follows to Joshua, 'Why have you given me only one share, only oneportion, as heritage, when I am a numerous people, since Yahweh has so blessed me?'	14 E i figli di Giuseppe, parlando a Giosuè; dessero: « Perchè mi hai dato il possesso di una sola eredità e di una sola parte, mentre io formo sì grande moltitudine, avendomi il Signore benedetto »
15 Joshua replied, 'If your people are so many, go up to the wooded area and clear space for yourselvesin the area belonging to the Perizzites and Rephaim, since the highlands of Ephraim are too small for you.'	15 Giosuè disse loro: « Se tu sei un gran popolo, sali al bosco e tagliati dello spazio nella terra dei Ferezei e dei Rafaim, se il territorio del monte di Efraim è troppo stretto per te ».
16 The sons of Joseph replied, 'The highlands are not enough for us, and what is more, al theCanaanites living on the land of the plain have iron chariots, so do those in Beth-Shean and its dependenttowns, and those in the plain of Jezreel.'	16 I figli di Giuseppe gli risposero: « Noi non potremo salire fino alle montagne, per chè i Cananei che abitano nella pianura, dov'è Betsan coi suoi villaggi e Iezrael, che tiene il mezzo della valle, hanno carri di ferro ».
17 Joshua said to the House of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, 'You are a numerous people andyour strength is great; you wil not only have one share,	17 E Giosuè disse alla casa di Giuseppe, Efraim e Manasse: « Essendo tu un popolo numeroso e molto forte, non avrai una sola parte,
18 but a mountain wil be yours as well; even if it is a forest, you can clear it and its territories will beyours. And you will dispossess the Canaanites, although they have iron chariots and although they are strong.'	18 se salirai al monte e lì taglierai e farai dello spazio libero per abitarvi, tu potrai allargarti quando avrai sterminato il Cananeo, che dici aver carri di ferro ed esser fortissimo ».
