1 The portion of the tribe of Manasseh, who was in fact Joseph's first-born -- went to Machir, Manasseh'sfirst-born, father of Gilead, for he was a warrior; he had Gilead and Bashan.	1 Questa fu la parte sorteggiata per la tribù di Manasse, che era il primogenito di Giuseppe. A Machir, primogenito di Manasse, padre di Gàlaad, toccò il Gàlaad e il Basan, come conveniva ad un uomo di guerra qual egli era.
2 The other sons of Manasseh had theirs, by clans: for the sons of Abiezer, for the sons of Helek, for thesons of Asriel, for the sons of Shechem, for the sons of Hepher, and for the sons of Shemida: these were themale children of Manasseh son of Joseph, by clans.	2 Ebbero la loro parte gli altri figli di Manasse, secondo le loro famiglie, i figli di Abiezer, i figli di Elek, i figli di Asriel, i figli di Sichem, i figli di Chefer e i figli di Semida. Questi erano i figli maschi di Manasse, figlio di Giuseppe, secondo le loro famiglie.
3 Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons but onlydaughters, whose names were these: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	3 Zelofcad, figlio di Chefer, figlio di Gàlaad, figlio di Machir, figlio di Manasse, non ebbe figli, ma soltanto figlie, che si chiamavano: Macla, Noa, Cogla, Milca e Tirza.
4 These approached the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and the leaders, and said, 'Yahweh orderedMoses to give us a heritage among our brothers.' In compliance with Yahweh's order, therefore, they were given a heritage among their father's brothers.	4 Si presentarono al sacerdote Eleazaro e a Giosuè, figlio di Nun, e ai capi, dicendo: "Il Signore ha comandato a Mosè di dare anche a noi una porzione in mezzo ai nostri fratelli". Così fu data loro una porzione in mezzo ai fratelli del loro padre, secondo l'ordine del Signore.
5 In this way ten portions fel to Manasseh, apart from Gilead and Bashan lying on the further side of theJordan,	5 Così a Manasse toccarono dieci parti oltre la terra del Gàlaad e del Basan al di là del Giordano;
6 since Manasseh's daughters received a heritage as well as his sons. Gilead itself belonged toManasseh's other sons.	6 le figlie di Manasse ebbero infatti una eredità in mezzo ai figli di lui; la regione del Gàlaad toccò agli altri figli di Manasse.
7 On the side of Asher, the frontier of Manasseh was the Michmethath, which is opposite Shechem, andthence continued to the right to Jashib, which is at the spring of Tappuah.	7 Il confine di Manasse andava da Aser, Micmetat, che è dinanzi a Sichem e girava a destra verso Iasib, la sorgente di Tappuach.
8 The territory of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah on Manasseh's border belonged to thesons of Ephraim.	8 Così la regione di Tappuach apparteneva a Manasse, mentre Tappuach, ai confini di Manasse, apparteneva ai figli di Efraim.
9 The boundary went down to the Torrent of Kanah; south of the Torrent were the towns of Ephraim,excluding those owned by Ephraim among the towns of Manasseh; the boundary of Manasseh was north of theTorrent and reached as far as the sea.	9 Il confine poi scendeva al torrente Kana; a sud del torrente queste città erano di Efraim in mezzo alle città di Manasse; il confine di Manasse passava a nord del torrente e terminava al mare.
10 The south belonged to Ephraim and the north to Manasseh and reached as far as the sea; theytouched Asher to the north and Issachar to the east.	10 Il territorio a sud apparteneva ad Efraim, a nord a Manasse, e suo confine era il mare. Erano confinanti con Aser a nord e con Issacar ad est.
11 With Issachar and Asher, Manasseh shared Beth-Shean and its dependent towns, Ibleam and itsdependent towns, the inhabitants of Dor and of its dependent towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and Megiddoand of their dependent towns: the Three of the Slopes.	11 A Manasse appartenevano in Issacar e in Aser Bet-Sean e le sue dipendenze; Ibleam e le sue dipendenze, gli abitanti di Dor e le sue dipendenze, gli abitanti di En-Dor e le sue dipendenze, gli abitanti di Taanach e le sue dipendenze, gli abitanti di Meghiddo e le città dipendenti, tre contrade.
12 But because the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of these towns, the Canaanitesmanaged to live on in that territory.	12 Siccome i figli di Manasse non poterono impossessarsi di queste città, i Cananei continuarono ad abitare in quella regione.
13 When, however, the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour,though they never dispossessed them.	13 Quando i figli d'Israele diventarono potenti, posero in servitù i Cananei, ma non li scacciarono.
14 The sons of Joseph spoke as follows to Joshua, 'Why have you given me only one share, only oneportion, as heritage, when I am a numerous people, since Yahweh has so blessed me?'	14 E i figli di Giuseppe parlarono così a Giosuè: "Perché mi hai dato in eredità una sola porzione, una sola misura, mentre sono un popolo numeroso, poiché il Signore mi ha tanto benedetto?".
15 Joshua replied, 'If your people are so many, go up to the wooded area and clear space for yourselvesin the area belonging to the Perizzites and Rephaim, since the highlands of Ephraim are too small for you.'	15 Giosuè rispose loro: "Se sei un popolo numeroso, sali alla foresta e disbosca ivi per conto tuo nella terra dei Perizziti e dei Refaim, se è troppo angusta per te la montagna di Efraim".
16 The sons of Joseph replied, 'The highlands are not enough for us, and what is more, al theCanaanites living on the land of the plain have iron chariots, so do those in Beth-Shean and its dependenttowns, and those in the plain of Jezreel.'	16 Ripresero i figli di Giuseppe: "Non ci basta la montagna; i Cananei che abitano nella pianura, quelli cioè di Bet-Sean e le sue dipendenze e quelli della valle di Izreel, hanno carri di ferro".
17 Joshua said to the House of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, 'You are a numerous people andyour strength is great; you wil not only have one share,	17 Rispose Giosuè alla casa di Giuseppe, a Efraim e a Manasse: "Tu sei un popolo forte e hai tanto vigore; non avrai una sola porzione;
18 but a mountain wil be yours as well; even if it is a forest, you can clear it and its territories will beyours. And you will dispossess the Canaanites, although they have iron chariots and although they are strong.'	18 la montagna infatti sarà tua; essa, è vero, è una foresta, ma tu la disboscherai e sarà tua con i suoi proventi; poiché tu ne scaccerai i Cananei, anche se essi hanno carri di ferro e sono forti".
