1 The portion of the tribe of Manasseh, who was in fact Joseph's first-born -- went to Machir, Manasseh'sfirst-born, father of Gilead, for he was a warrior; he had Gilead and Bashan.	1 Questa è la porzione data a sorte alla tribù di Manasse (perocché questi fu primogenito di Giuseppe): a Machir primogenito di Manasse, padre di Galaad, il quale fu uomo guerriero, e possedè il paese di Galaad, e di Basan;
2 The other sons of Manasseh had theirs, by clans: for the sons of Abiezer, for the sons of Helek, for thesons of Asriel, for the sons of Shechem, for the sons of Hepher, and for the sons of Shemida: these were themale children of Manasseh son of Joseph, by clans.	2 E (data) agli altri discendenti di Manasse famiglia per famiglia a' figliuoli di Abiezer, e ai figliuoli di Helec, ai figliuoli di Esriel, e a' figliuoli di Sechem, e a' figliuoli di Hepher, e a' figliuoli di Semida. Questi sono i figliuoli maschi di Manasse figliuolo di Giuseppe divisi nelle loro famiglie.
3 Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons but onlydaughters, whose names were these: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	3 Ma Salphaad figliuolo di Hepher figliuolo di Galaad, figliuolo di Machir, figliuolo di Manasse, non ebbe figliuoli, ma sole figlie, i nomi delle quali son questi, Maala, e Noa, ed Hegla, e Melca, e Thersa.
4 These approached the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and the leaders, and said, 'Yahweh orderedMoses to give us a heritage among our brothers.' In compliance with Yahweh's order, therefore, they were given a heritage among their father's brothers.	4 Ed elle si presentaron dinanzi ad Eleazaro sommo sacerdote, e a Giosuè figliuolo di Nun, e a' principi, e dissero: II Signore ordinò per mezzo di Mosè, che fosse data a noi la porzione in mezzo a' nostri fratelli. Diede perciò ad esse (Giosuè) la porzione in mezzo ai fratelli del padre loro secondo il comando del Signore.
5 In this way ten portions fel to Manasseh, apart from Gilead and Bashan lying on the further side of theJordan,	5 E alla tribù di Manasse toccarono dieci porzioni oltre la terra di Galaad, e di Basan di là dal Giordano.
6 since Manasseh's daughters received a heritage as well as his sons. Gilead itself belonged toManasseh's other sons.	6 Imperocché le figlie di Manasse ebber la loro porzione ereditaria insieme co' figliuoli di lui. E la terra di Galaad toccò in sorte agli altri figliuoli di Manasse.
7 On the side of Asher, the frontier of Manasseh was the Michmethath, which is opposite Shechem, andthence continued to the right to Jashib, which is at the spring of Tappuah.	7 E i confini di Manasse furono da Aser a Machmethath che guarda Sichem, e si estendono a destra presso gli abitanti del fonte di Taphua.
8 The territory of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah on Manasseh's border belonged to thesons of Ephraim.	8 Imperocché la terra di Taphua era toccata in sorte a Manasse, ma Thaphua, che è presso i confini di Manasse, fu de' figliuoli di Ephraim.
9 The boundary went down to the Torrent of Kanah; south of the Torrent were the towns of Ephraim,excluding those owned by Ephraim among the towns of Manasseh; the boundary of Manasseh was north of theTorrent and reached as far as the sea.	9 E i confini (di Manasse) scendono dalla valle del canneto verso il mezzodì del torrente, e delle città di Ephraim, che sono in mezzo alle città di Manasse. Il confine di Manasse è dalla parte settentrionale del torrente, donde va a finire al mare:
10 The south belonged to Ephraim and the north to Manasseh and reached as far as the sea; theytouched Asher to the north and Issachar to the east.	10 Talmente che la porzione di Ephraim è dalla parte di mezzodì, e quella di Manasse da settentrione, e l’una e l’altra sono chiuse dal mare, e si congiungono da settentrione colla tribù di Aser, e da levante colla tribù d'Issachar.
11 With Issachar and Asher, Manasseh shared Beth-Shean and its dependent towns, Ibleam and itsdependent towns, the inhabitants of Dor and of its dependent towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and Megiddoand of their dependent towns: the Three of the Slopes.	11 E Manasse ebbe in Issachar, e in Aser di suo retaggio Bethsan co' suoi villaggi, e Jeblaam co' suoi villaggi, e gli abitanti di Dor co' loro borghi, e anche gli abitanti di En-dor co' loro borghi: e parimente gli abitanti di Thenac co' loro borghi, e gli abitatori di Mageddo co' loro borghi, e la terza parte della città di Nopheth.
12 But because the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of these towns, the Canaanitesmanaged to live on in that territory.	12 E non poterono i figliuoli di Manasse distruggere queste città; ma i Cananei cominciarono ad abitare nel loro paese.
13 When, however, the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour,though they never dispossessed them.	13 Quando poi i figliuoli d'Israele si furono rinforzati, soggettarono i Cananei, e se li fecero tributarii, e non gli uccisero.
14 The sons of Joseph spoke as follows to Joshua, 'Why have you given me only one share, only oneportion, as heritage, when I am a numerous people, since Yahweh has so blessed me?'	14 Ma i figliuoli di Giuseppe parlarono a Giosuè, e dissero: Per qual motivo hai tu dato a me una sola porzione tirata a sorte, essendo io una moltitudine così grande per la benedizione datami dal Signore?
15 Joshua replied, 'If your people are so many, go up to the wooded area and clear space for yourselvesin the area belonging to the Perizzites and Rephaim, since the highlands of Ephraim are too small for you.'	15 Disse loro Giosuè: Se tu se' un gran popolo, va al bosco, e taglia, e fatti largo nella terra de' Pherezei, e de' Raphaimi: giacché angusta regione è per te il monte di Ephraim.
16 The sons of Joseph replied, 'The highlands are not enough for us, and what is more, al theCanaanites living on the land of the plain have iron chariots, so do those in Beth-Shean and its dependenttowns, and those in the plain of Jezreel.'	16 Gli risposero i figliuoli di Giuseppe: Noi non potremo salire sulla montagna, mentre i Cananei che abitano nella pianura (dov'è Bethsan coi suoi villaggi, e Jezrael, che tiene il mezzo della valle) hanno cocchi armati di ferro.
17 Joshua said to the House of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, 'You are a numerous people andyour strength is great; you wil not only have one share,	17 E Giosuè disse alla casa di Giuseppe, Ephraim, e Manasse: Tu sei un popolo numeroso, e molto forte; tu non avrai una sola porzione:
18 but a mountain wil be yours as well; even if it is a forest, you can clear it and its territories will beyours. And you will dispossess the Canaanites, although they have iron chariots and although they are strong.'	18 Ma salirai al monte, e taglierai, e ti farai luogo pulito da abitare, e potrai allargarti, quando avrai sterminati i Cananei, i quali tu dici che hanno cocchi armati di ferro, e che sono fortissimi.
