Galatians 4

1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;	1 Or io dico: fino a tanto che l'erede è fanciullo, in nulla differisce dal servo, sebbene sia padrone di tutto,
2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.	2 ma rimane sotto i tutori e i procuratori fino al tempo presi abilito dal padre.
3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;	3 Così anche noi, quando eravamo fanciulli, eravamo tenuti in schiavitù sotto gli elementi del mondo;
4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,	4 ma giunta la pienezza del tempo, Dio mandò il suo Figliolo, fatto di Donna, sottomesso alla legge,
5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.	5 per redimere quelli che eran sotto la legge e per farci ricevere l'adozione di figlioli.
6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';	6 E siccome siete figlioli, Dio ha infuso lo Spirito del suo Figliolo nei vostri cuori, che grida: Abba, Padre.
7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.	7 Dunque non sei più servo, ma figlio; e se figlio anche erede, per la grazia di Dio.
8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,	8 In passato, non conoscendo Dio, voi eravate servi di coloro che in realtà non son dèi;
9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?	9 ma ora che avete conosciuto Dio, anzi siete stati conosciuti da Dio, perchè rivolgersi indietro a deboli e poveri elementi, e voler tornare a servirli?
10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-	10 Voi osservate giorni, mesi, stagioni ed anni.
11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.	11 Allora temo per voi d'essermi tra voi inutilmente affaticato.
12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;	12 Siate come me, ve ne scongiuro, o fratelli, giacché io sono come voi. Voi non mi avete fatto alcun torto;
13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,	13 anzi, ben sapete che tra le afflizioni della carne vi annunziai il Vangelo, e che voi, non ostante la tentazione che avevo nella mia carne,
14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.	14 non mi disprezzaste, non mi discacciaste; ma mi accoglieste come un angelo di Dio, come Cristo Gesù.
15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.	15 Or dove sono andati i vostri trasporti di gioia? Vi attesto che se fosse stato possibile, vi sareste levati gli occhi per darmeli.
16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?	16 Son dunque divenuto vostro nemico a dirvi la verità?
17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.	17 Con malizia mostrano zelo verso di voi, per staccarvi da noi e legarvi a se stessi.
18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.	18 Ma voi zelate il bene per il bene, sempre, e non soltanto quando io sono presente in mezzo a voi.
19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;	19 Figlioletti miei, che porto nuovamente nel mio seno, finché in voi non sia formato Cristo,
20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.	20 oh come vorrei esser ora presente fra voi e cambiar tono, essendo perplesso a vostro riguardo!
21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?	21 Ditemi, voi che volete essere sotto la legge, non l'avete letta la legge?
22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.	22 Or sta scritto che Abramo ebbe due figlioli: uno dalla schiava e uno dalla libera,
23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.	23 e mentre quello della schiava nacque secondo la carne, quello della libera nacque in virtù della promessa.
24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;	24 Queste cose hanno un senso allegorico. Rappresentano le due alleanze: una del monte Sinai, che genera schiavi, e sarebbe Agar:
25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.	25 Infatti il Sinai è un monte dell'Arabia, ed ha molta relazione colla Gerusalemme attuale, che è schiava con i suoi figlioli.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;	26 Ma la Gerusalemme superiore è libera, essa è la nostra madre;
27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.	27 sta scritto infatti: Rallegrati, o sterile che non partorisci, prorompi in grida di gioia, tu che non divieni madre, perchè molti sono i figlioli dell'abbandonata, e più numerosi di quelli di colei che ha marito.
28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;	28 Quanto a noi, o fratelli, siamo, come Isacco, figlioli della promessa;
29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.	29 Come allora quello nato secondo la carne perseguitava colui che era nato secondo lo spirito, così pure succede ora.
30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.	30 Ma che dice la Scrittura? Caccia la schiava e il suo figliolo, perchè non deve essere il figlio della schiava erede col figlio della libera.
31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.	31 Pertanto, o fratelli, noi non siam figli della schiava, ma della libera, per quella libertà colla quale Cristo ci ha affrancati.
