Galatians 4

1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;	1 Dico ancora: per tutto il tempo che l’erede è fanciullo, non è per nulla differente da uno schiavo, benché sia padrone di tutto, ma
2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.	2 dipende da tutori e amministratori fino al termine prestabilito dal padre.
3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;	3 Così anche noi, quando eravamo fanciulli, eravamo schiavi degli elementi del mondo.
4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,	4 Ma quando venne la pienezza del tempo, Dio mandò il suo Figlio, nato da donna, nato sotto la Legge,
5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.	5 per riscattare quelli che erano sotto la Legge, perché ricevessimo l’adozione a figli.
6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';	6 E che voi siete figli lo prova il fatto che Dio mandò nei nostri cuori lo Spirito del suo Figlio, il quale grida: «Abbà! Padre!».
7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.	7 Quindi non sei più schiavo, ma figlio e, se figlio, sei anche erede per grazia di Dio.
8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,	8 Ma un tempo, per la vostra ignoranza di Dio, voi eravate sottomessi a divinità che in realtà non lo sono.
9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?	9 Ora invece che avete conosciuto Dio, anzi da lui siete stati conosciuti, come potete rivolgervi di nuovo a quei deboli e miserabili elementi, ai quali di nuovo come un tempo volete servire?
10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-	10 Voi infatti osservate scrupolosamente giorni, mesi, stagioni e anni!
11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.	11 Temo per voi di essermi affaticato invano a vostro riguardo.
12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;	12 Siate come me – ve ne prego, fratelli –, poiché anch’io sono stato come voi. Non mi avete offeso in nulla.
13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,	13 Sapete che durante una malattia del corpo vi annunciai il Vangelo la prima volta;
14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.	14 quella che, nella mia carne, era per voi una prova, non l’avete disprezzata né respinta, ma mi avete accolto come un angelo di Dio, come Cristo Gesù.
15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.	15 Dove sono dunque le vostre manifestazioni di gioia? Vi do testimonianza che, se fosse stato possibile, vi sareste cavati anche gli occhi per darli a me.
16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?	16 Sono dunque diventato vostro nemico dicendovi la verità?
17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.	17 Costoro sono premurosi verso di voi, ma non onestamente; vogliono invece tagliarvi fuori, perché vi interessiate di loro.
18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.	18 È bello invece essere circondati di premure nel bene sempre, e non solo quando io mi trovo presso di voi,
19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;	19 figli miei, che io di nuovo partorisco nel dolore finché Cristo non sia formato in voi!
20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.	20 Vorrei essere vicino a voi in questo momento e cambiare il tono della mia voce, perché sono perplesso a vostro riguardo.
21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?	21 Ditemi, voi che volete essere sotto la Legge: non sentite che cosa dice la Legge?
22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.	22 Sta scritto infatti che Abramo ebbe due figli, uno dalla schiava e uno dalla donna libera.
23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.	23 Ma il figlio della schiava è nato secondo la carne; il figlio della donna libera, in virtù della promessa.
24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;	24 Ora, queste cose sono dette per allegoria: le due donne infatti rappresentano le due alleanze. Una, quella del monte Sinai, che genera nella schiavitù, è rappresentata da Agar
25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.	25 – il Sinai è un monte dell’Arabia –; essa corrisponde alla Gerusalemme attuale, che di fatto è schiava insieme ai suoi figli.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;	26 Invece la Gerusalemme di lassù è libera ed è la madre di tutti noi.
27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.	27 Sta scritto infatti: Rallégrati, sterile, tu che non partorisci, grida di gioia, tu che non conosci i dolori del parto, perché molti sono i figli dell’abbandonata, più di quelli della donna che ha marito.
28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;	28 E voi, fratelli, siete figli della promessa, alla maniera di Isacco.
29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.	29 Ma come allora colui che era nato secondo la carne perseguitava quello nato secondo lo spirito, così accade anche ora.
30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.	30 Però, che cosa dice la Scrittura? Manda via la schiava e suo figlio, perché il figlio della schiava non avrà eredità col figlio della donna libera.
31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.	31 Così, fratelli, noi non siamo figli di una schiava, ma della donna libera.
