Galatians 4

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;	1 Ora io dico: per tutto il tempo in cui l'erede è un minorenne, in niente differisce da uno schiavo, pur essendo padrone di tutto,
2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.	2 ma è sottoposto a tutori e ad amministratori, fino al giorno stabilito dal padre.
3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;	3 Così anche noi, quando eravamo minorenni, stavamo sottoposti agli elementi del mondo in uno stato permanente di schiavitù.
4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,	4 Ma quando giunse la pienezza del tempo, Dio inviò il Figlio suo, nato da una donna, sottomesso alla legge,
5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.	5 affinché riscattasse coloro che erano sottoposti alla legge, affinché ricevessimo l'adozione a figli.
6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';	6 Poiché siete figli, Dio inviò lo Spirito del Figlio suo nei nostri cuori, il quale grida: "Abbà, Padre!"
7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.	7 E così non sei più schiavo ma figlio; se figlio, sei anche erede in forza di Dio.
8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,	8 Un tempo, non avendo conosciuto Dio, serviste come schiavi a dèi che in realtà non lo sono.
9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?	9 Ora invece, avendo conosciuto Dio, o piuttosto essendo stati conosciuti da Dio, come potete rivolgervi di nuovo verso gli elementi senza forza e meschini ai quali volete di nuovo tornare a sottomettervi come schiavi?
10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-	10 Osservate le prescrizioni riguardanti i giorni, i mesi, le stagioni e gli anni. Mi fate temere di essermi affaticato invano in mezzo a voi.
11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.	11 Diventate come me, poiché anch'io sono come voi, fratelli, ve ne supplico.
12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;	12 Non mi faceste alcun torto.
13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,	13 Sapete poi che a causa di un'infermità fisica annunciammo il vangelo a voi per la prima volta;
14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.	14 e per quello che costituiva per voi una prova nel mio fisico non dimostraste disprezzo né nausea, ma accoglieste me come un inviato di Dio, come Gesù Cristo stesso.
15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.	15 Dov'è dunque adesso il vostro entusiasmo di allora? Vi do atto che, se fosse stato possibile, vi sareste strappati gli occhi e me li avreste dati.
16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?	16 Vi sono forse diventato nemico dicendovi la verità?
17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.	17 Mostrano un interesse acceso per voi, però non rettamente, ma vi vogliono isolare da noi, affinché abbiate interesse per loro.
18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.	18 E' bello avere un interesse vivo per il bene, sempre, e non solo quando io sono presente tra voi,
19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;	19 figli miei, per i quali soffro di nuovo le doglie del parto, fino a che Cristo non sia formato in voi.
20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.	20 Vorrei proprio essere presso di voi ora, e parlarvi a tu per tu, poiché sono ansioso nei vostri riguardi.
21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?	21 Ditemi, voi che volete stare sotto la legge: non ascoltate ciò che dice la legge?
22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.	22 E' stato scritto infatti che Abramo ebbe due figli, uno dalla schiava e uno dalla donna libera.
23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.	23 Ma quello avuto dalla schiava è nato secondo la carne, mentre quello avuto dalla donna libera è nato in virtù della promessa.
24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;	24 Tali cose sono dette in termini simbolici: le due donne sono le due alleanze, una proviene dal monte Sinai, genera i figli per la schiavitù ed è Agar.
25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.	25 Ma Agar significa il monte Sinai; questo sta in Arabia e corrisponde alla Gerusalemme di adesso, che difatti si trova in stato di schiavitù con i figli suoi.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;	26 La Gerusalemme celeste, invece, è libera: essa è la nostra madre.
27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.	27 Sta scritto infatti: Ràllegrati, sterile che non partorisci, prorompi in grida di gioia tu che non soffri i dolori del parto, poiché molti sono i figli della donna che è sola, più di colei che ha marito.
28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;	28 Ma voi, fratelli, siete figli della promessa secondo Isacco.
29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.	29 Ma come allora quello che era nato secondo la carne perseguitava quello nato secondo lo spirito, così accade anche adesso.
30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.	30 Ma che dice la Scrittura? Caccia via la schiava e il figlio di lei; infatti il figlio della schiava non avrà parte all'eredità col figlio della donna libera.
31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.	31 Perciò, fratelli, non siamo figli della schiava ma della donna libera.
