Galatians 4

1 What I am saying is this: an heir, during the time while he is stil under age, is no different from a slave,even though he is the owner of al the property;	1 OR io dico: fino a tanto, che l'erede è fanciullo, ei non è differente in cosa alcuna da un servo, essendo padrone di tutto.
2 he is under the control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by his father.	2 Ma è sotto i tutori, ed economi sino al tempo stabilito dal padre:
3 So too with us, as long as we were stil under age, we were enslaved to the elemental principles of thisworld;	3 Cosi anche noi quand' eravamo fanciulli, eravamo servi dei rudimenti dati al mondo.
4 but when the completion of the time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of theLaw,	4 Ma venuta la pienezza del tempo, ha mandato Dio il Figliuol suo fatto di donna, fatto sotto la legge,
5 to redeem the subjects of the Law, so that we could receive adoption as sons.	5 Affinchè redimesse quegli, che eran sotto la legge, affinchè ricevessimo l'adozione in figliuoli.
6 As you are sons, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son crying, 'Abba, Father';	6 Or siccome voi siete figliuoli, ha mandato Dio lo Spirito del Figliuol suo ne' vostri cuori, il quale grida: Abba,Padre.
7 and so you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir, by God's own act.	7 Dunque non se' più servo, ma figliuolo. E se figliuolo, anche erede per Dio.
8 But formerly when you did not know God, you were kept in slavery to things which are not really gods atal ,	8 Ma allora non conoscendo Dio, eravate servi di quegli, i quali realmente non sono Dii.
9 whereas now that you have come to recognise God -- or rather, be recognised by God -- how can younow turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt elements whose slaves you now want to be al overagain?	9 Ma adesso avendo conosciuto Dio, anzi essendo da Dio conosciuti, come vi rivolgete indietro ai deboli, e poveri rudimenti, ai quali volete da capo tornare a servire?
10 You are keeping special days, and months, and seasons and years-	10 Voi tenete conto de' giorni, de'mesi, de' tempi, degli anni.
11 I am beginning to be afraid that I may, after al , have wasted my efforts on you.	11 Temo per voi, ch'io in non mi sia forse inutilmente affaticato tra voi.
12 I urge you, brothers,-be like me, as I have become like you. You have never been unfair to me;	12 Siate come me, dappoiché io pur son come voi; ve ne scongiuro, o fratelli: voi non mi avete offeso in nulla.
13 indeed you remember that it was an il ness that first gave me the opportunity to preach the gospel toyou,	13 E sapete, come tempo fa tralle afflizioni della carne vi annunziai il vangelo: e la tentazione vostra ne' patimenti della mia carne,
14 but though my il ness was a trial to you, you did not show any distaste or revulsion; instead, youwelcomed me as a messenger of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.	14 Non la dispregiaste, né l'aveste in obbrobrio: ma mi riceveste come un Angelo di Dio, come Cristo Gesù.
15 What has happened to the utter contentment you had then? For I can testify to you that you wouldhave plucked your eyes out, were that possible, and given them to me.	15 Dov' è dunque quella vostra felicità? Imperocché vi fo fede, che se fosse stato possibile, vi sareste cavati i vostri occhi per darli a me.
16 Then have I turned into your enemy simply by being truthful with you?	16 Son io dunque diventato vostro nemico a dirvi la verità?
17 Their devotion to you has no praiseworthy motive; they simply want to cut you off from me, so that youmay centre your devotion on them.	17 Sono gelosi di voi non rettamente: ma voglion mettervi fuora, affinchè amiate loro.
18 Devotion to a praiseworthy cause is praiseworthy at any time, not only when I am there with you.	18 Siate amanti del bene per buon fine sempre, e non solamente, quand'io son presente tra voi.
19 My children, I am going through the pain of giving birth to you al over again, until Christ is formed inyou;	19 Figliuolini miei, i quali io porto nuovamente nel mio seno sino a tanto, che sia formato in voi Cristo.
20 and how I wish I could be there with you at this moment and find the right way of talking to you: I amquite at a loss with you.	20 Ma vorrei essere ora presso di voi, e cambiar la mia voce: conciossiachè sono perplesso riguardo a voi.
21 Tell me then, you are so eager to be subject to the Law, have you listened to what the Law says?	21 Ditemi voi, che volete essere sotto la legge, non avete letta la legge?
22 Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman.	22 Imperocché sta scritto, che Abramo ebbe due figliuoli, uno della schiava, e uno della libera.
23 The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewomancame to be born through a promise.	23 Ma quello della schiava nacque secondo la carne: quello poi della libera in virtù della promessa:
24 There is an al egory here: these women stand for the two covenants. The one given on Mount Sinai --that is Hagar, whose children are born into slavery;	24 Le quali cose sono state dette per allegorìa. Imperocché questi sono i due testamenti, uno del monte Sinai che genera schiavi: questo è Agar:
25 now Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and represents Jerusalem in its present state, for she is in slaverytogether with her children.	25 Imperocché il Sina è un monte dell'Arabia, che corrisponde alla Gerusalemme, che è adesso, la quale è serva insieme co' suoi figliuoli.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and that is the one that is our mother;	26 Ma quella, che è lassuso Gerusalemme, ella è libera; e dessa è la madre nostra.
27 as scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren woman who has borne no children! Break into shouts ofjoy, you who were never in labour. For the sons of the forsaken one are more in number than the sons of thewedded wife.	27 Imperocché sta scritto: rallegrati, o sterile, che non partorisci: prorompi in laudi, e grida tu, che non se' feconda: imperocché molti più sono i figliuoli della abbandonata, che di colei, che ha marito.
28 Now you, brothers, are like Isaac, children of the promise;	28 Noi perciò, o fratelli, siamo come Isacco figliuoli della promessa.
29 just as at that time, the child born in the way of human nature persecuted the child born through theSpirit, so now.	29 Ma siccome allora quegli, che era nato secondo la carne, perseguitava colui, che era secondo lo spirito: così anche di presente.
30 But what is it that scripture says? Drive away that slave girl and her son; the slave girl's son is not toshare the inheritance with the son of the freewoman.	30 Ma che dice la scrittura? Metti fuori la schiava, e il figliuolo di lei: imperocché non sarà erede il fìgliuol della schiava col figliuolo della libera.
31 So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.	31 Per la qual cosa, o fratelli, noi non siamo figliuoli della schiava, ma della libera, e di quella libertà, a cui Cristo ci ha affrancati.
