Romans 13

1 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God and sowhatever authorities exist have been appointed by God.	1 Ognuno stia sottomesso alle autorità che sono al potere; poiché non v’è autorità che non venga da Dio e quelle che esistono sono stabilite da Dio.
2 So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebel ing against God's ordinance; and rebels must expect toreceive the condemnation they deserve.	2 Chi dunque si schiera contro l’autorità si pone contro l’ordine stabilito da Dio; i ribelli s’attireranno sul capo la condanna.
3 Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live withno fear of authority, live honestly and you wil have its approval;	3 I governanti non suscitano paure per il retto agire, ma per quello malvagio. Vuoi tu non avere timore dell’autorità? Opera il bene e ne riceverai addirittura lode,
4 it is there to serve God for you and for your good. But if you do wrong, then you may wel be afraid;because it is not for nothing that the symbol of authority is the sword: it is there to serve God, too, as hisavenger, to bring retribution to wrongdoers.	4 essendo essa, a tuo vantaggio, ministra di Dio per il bene. Naturalmente, se fai il male, temi; chè non porta invano la spada. Ministra di Dio, essa è anche esecutrice di giustizia in punizione di chi opera il male.
5 You must be obedient, therefore, not only because of this retribution, but also for conscience's sake.	5 Ci si deve dunque sottomettere non soltanto a motivo del castigo, ma altresì per ragione di coscienza.
6 And this is why you should pay taxes, too, because the authorities are al serving God as his agents,even while they are busily occupied with that particular task.	6 Ecco perché voi pagate anche le tasse; sono infatti dei funzionari di Dio, tutti dediti proprio a questo.
7 Pay to each one what is due to each: taxes to the one to whom tax is due, tol s to the one to whomtol s are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honour to the one to whom honour is due.	7 Rendete a tutti quello che loro è dovuto: a chi l’imposta, l'imposta; a chi le tasse, le tasse; a chi il rispetto, il rispetto; a chi l’onore, l’onore.
8 The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is tofulfil the law.	8 Non abbiate verso alcuno debiti di sorta, eccetto quello dello scambievole amore; chi ama il prossimo ha pienamente adempiuto la legge.
9 Al these: You shal not commit adultery, You shal not kil , You shal not steal, You shal not covet,and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: You must love yourneighbour as yourself.	9 In realtà i comandamenti: Non commettere adulterio, non ammazzare, non rubare, non desiderare e tutti gli altri precetti sono compendiati in questa frase: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso.
10 Love can cause no harm to your neighbour, and so love is the fulfilment of the Law.	10 La carità non fa del male al prossimo. La carità è dunque il pieno compimento della legge.
11 Besides, you know the time has come; the moment is here for you to stop sleeping and wake up,because by now our salvation is nearer than when we first began to believe.	11 Tutto ciò specialmente conoscendo questo nostro tempo. È ora infatti che vi scuotiate dal sonno, essendo la nostra salvezza ormai più vicina di quando abbracciammo; la fede.
12 The night is nearly over, daylight is on the way; so let us throw off everything that belongs to thedarkness and equip ourselves for the light.	12 La notte è avanzata e si avvicina il giorno. Allontaniamo dunque da noi le opere delle tenebre e rivestiamoci delle armi della luce.
13 Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity orlicentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy.	13 Comportiamoci dignitosamente, come s’addice in pieno giorno: non tra gozzoviglie e ubriachezze, non in lussurie e dissolutezze, non in risse e gelosie.
14 Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered naturalinclinations may be fulfil ed.	14 Rivestitevi invece del Signore Gesù Cristo e non abbiate per il corpo tutte quelle attenzioni che ne favoriscono le concupiscenze.
