Romans 13

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God and sowhatever authorities exist have been appointed by God.	1 Que chacun se soumette aux autorités en charge. Car il n'y a point d'autorité qui ne vienne deDieu, et celles qui existent sont constituées par Dieu.
2 So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebel ing against God's ordinance; and rebels must expect toreceive the condemnation they deserve.	2 Si bien que celui qui résiste à l'autorité se rebelle contre l'ordre établi par Dieu. Et les rebelles seferont eux-mêmes condamner.
3 Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live withno fear of authority, live honestly and you wil have its approval;	3 En effet, les magistrats ne sont pas à craindre quand on fait le bien, mais quand on fait le mal.Veux-tu n'avoir pas à craindre l'autorité? Fais le bien et tu en recevras des éloges;
4 it is there to serve God for you and for your good. But if you do wrong, then you may wel be afraid;because it is not for nothing that the symbol of authority is the sword: it is there to serve God, too, as hisavenger, to bring retribution to wrongdoers.	4 car elle est un instrument de Dieu pour te conduire au bien. Mais crains, si tu fais le mal; car cen'est pas pour rien qu'elle porte le glaive: elle est un instrument de Dieu pour faire justice et châtier qui fait lemal.
5 You must be obedient, therefore, not only because of this retribution, but also for conscience's sake.	5 Aussi doit-on se soumettre non seulement par crainte du châtiment, mais par motif de conscience.
6 And this is why you should pay taxes, too, because the authorities are al serving God as his agents,even while they are busily occupied with that particular task.	6 N'est-ce pas pour cela même que vous payez les impôts? Car il s'agit de fonctionnaires quis'appliquent de par Dieu à cet office.
7 Pay to each one what is due to each: taxes to the one to whom tax is due, tol s to the one to whomtol s are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honour to the one to whom honour is due.	7 Rendez à chacun ce qui lui est dû: à qui l'impôt, l'impôt; à qui les taxes, les taxes; à qui la crainte,la crainte; à qui l'honneur, l'honneur.
8 The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is tofulfil the law.	8 N'ayez de dettes envers personne, sinon celle de l'amour mutuel. Car celui qui aime autrui a de cefait accompli la loi.
9 Al these: You shal not commit adultery, You shal not kil , You shal not steal, You shal not covet,and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: You must love yourneighbour as yourself.	9 En effet, le précepte: Tu ne commettras pas d'adultère, tu ne tueras pas, tu ne voleras pas, tu neconvoiteras pas, et tous les autres se résument en cette formule: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.
10 Love can cause no harm to your neighbour, and so love is the fulfilment of the Law.	10 La charité ne fait point de tort au prochain. La charité est donc la Loi dans sa plénitude.
11 Besides, you know the time has come; the moment is here for you to stop sleeping and wake up,because by now our salvation is nearer than when we first began to believe.	11 D'autant que vous savez en quel moment nous vivons. C'est l'heure désormais de vous arracherau sommeil; le salut est maintenant plus près de nous qu'au temps où nous avons cru.
12 The night is nearly over, daylight is on the way; so let us throw off everything that belongs to thedarkness and equip ourselves for the light.	12 La nuit est avancée. Le jour est arrivé. Laissons là les oeuvres de ténèbres et revêtons les armesde lumière.
13 Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity orlicentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy.	13 Comme il sied en plein jour, conduisons-nous avec dignité: point de ripailles ni d'orgies, pas deluxure ni de débauche, pas de querelles ni de jalousies.
14 Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered naturalinclinations may be fulfil ed.	14 Mais revêtez-vous du Seigneur Jésus Christ et ne vous souciez pas de la chair pour en satisfaireles convoitises.
