NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 While they were stil talking to the people the priests came up to them, accompanied by the captain ofthe Temple and the Sadducees.	1 Mentre essi parlavano al popolo, sopravvennero i sacerdoti, il comandante del tempio e i sadducei,
2 They were extremely annoyed at their teaching the people the resurrection from the dead by proclaimingthe resurrection of Jesus.	2 non potendo tollerare che essi insegnassero al popolo e annunciassero in Gesù la risurrezione dai morti.
3 They arrested them, and, as it was already late, they kept them in prison till the next day.	3 Misero loro le mani addosso e li posero in prigione fino al giorno seguente, perché era già sera.
4 But many of those who had listened to their message became believers; the total number of men hadnow risen to something like five thousand.	4 Ma molti di coloro che avevano ascoltato la parola credettero e il numero dei fedeli, contando solo gli uomini, divenne di circa cinquemila.
5 It happened that the next day the rulers, elders and scribes held a meeting in Jerusalem	5 Il giorno seguente i capi dei Giudei, gli anziani e gli scribi si riunirono in Gerusalemme,
6 with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, Jonathan, Alexander and al the members of the high-priestlyfamilies.	6 con il sommo sacerdote Anna, con Caifa, Giovanni, Alessandro e quanti appartenevano alle famiglie dei sommi sacerdoti.
7 They made the prisoners stand in the middle and began to interrogate them, 'By what power, and bywhose name have you men done this?'	7 Fecero comparire gli apostoli e si misero a interrogarli: "In virtù di quale forza e in nome di chi voi avete fatto ciò?".
8 Then Peter, fil ed with the Holy Spirit, addressed them, 'Rulers of the people, and elders!	8 Allora Pietro, pieno di Spirito Santo, disse loro: "Capi del popolo e anziani,
9 If you are questioning us today about an act of kindness to a cripple and asking us how he was healed,	9 noi oggi siamo interrogati in giudizio per aver fatto del bene a un povero malato! Ci si chiede in virtù di chi costui è stato risanato.
10 you must know, all of you, and the whole people of Israel, that it is by the name of Jesus Christ theNazarene, whom you crucified, and God raised from the dead, by this name and by no other that this manstands before you cured.	10 Sappiatelo tutti voi e tutto il popolo d'Israele: è nel nome di Gesù Cristo, il Nazareno, che voi avete crocifisso, ma che Dio ha risuscitato dai morti! E' in virtù di questo nome che costui se ne sta davanti a voi, perfettamente sano:
11 This is the stone which you, the builders, rejected but which has become the cornerstone. Only in himis there salvation;	11 Egli è la pietra respinta da voi costruttori, che è divenuta la testata d'angolo. E non c'è in alcun altro la salvezza.
12 for of al the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved.'	12 Nessun altro nome infatti sotto il cielo è stato concesso agli uomini, per il quale siamo destinati a salvarci".
13 They were astonished at the fearlessness shown by Peter and John, considering that they wereuneducated laymen; and they recognised them as associates of Jesus;	13 Vedendo il coraggio di Pietro e di Giovanni e comprendendo d'altra parte che si trattava di uomini illetterati e semplici, erano sbalorditi e si rendevano conto che essi erano coloro che erano stati con Gesù.
14 but when they saw the man who had been cured standing by their side, they could find no answer.	14 Vedendo poi accanto a loro l'uomo che era stato guarito, non avevano nulla da replicare.
15 So they ordered them to stand outside while the Sanhedrin had a private discussion.	15 Ordinarono dunque che li conducessero fuori del sinedrio e si misero a consultarsi tra loro
16 'What are we going to do with these men?' they asked. 'It is obvious to everybody in Jerusalem that anotable miracle has been worked through them, and we cannot deny it.	16 dicendo: "Che cosa dobbiamo fare a questi uomini? Infatti è chiaro a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme che per mezzo loro è avvenuto un evidente miracolo e non possiamo negarlo.
17 But to stop the whole thing spreading any further among the people, let us threaten them against everspeaking to anyone in this name again.'	17 Ma perché non si divulghi ancora più tra il popolo, li minacceremo perché non parlino più a nessuno in quel nome".
18 So they cal ed them in and gave them a warning on no account to make statements or to teach in thename of Jesus.	18 E richiamatili, intimarono loro di non pronunciare più alcuna parola, né di insegnare nel nome di Gesù.
19 But Peter and John retorted, 'You must judge whether in God's eyes it is right to listen to you and not toGod.	19 Ma Pietro e Giovanni replicarono loro: "Vi pare giusto davanti a Dio ascoltare voi piuttosto che Dio? Giudicatene voi!
20 We cannot stop proclaiming what we have seen and heard.'	20 Noi infatti non possiamo non parlare di ciò che abbiamo visto e sentito".
21 The court repeated the threats and then released them; they could not think of any way to punish them,since al the people were giving glory to God for what had happened.	21 Ma essi, replicate le minacce, li lasciarono andare, non trovando modo di punirli, per paura del popolo, poiché tutti glorificavano Dio per quanto era avvenuto.
22 The man who had been miraculously cured was over forty years old.	22 Infatti l'uomo in cui si era verificato questo miracolo di guarigione aveva più di quarant'anni.
23 As soon as they were released they went to the community and told them everything the chief priestsand elders had said to them.	23 Quando furono rilasciati si recarono dai loro fratelli e riferirono quanto avevano loro detto i sommi sacerdoti e gli anziani.
24 When they heard it they lifted up their voice to God with one heart. 'Master,' they prayed, 'it is you who made sky and earth and sea, and everything in them;	24 Essi, udito ciò, unanimemente alzarono la voce a Dio e dissero: "Signore, tu che hai fatto il cielo, la terra, il mare e tutto ciò che è in essi,
25 it is you who said through the Holy Spirit and speaking through our ancestor David, your servant: Whythis uproar among the nations, this impotent muttering of the peoples?	25 tu che per mezzo dello Spirito Santo, per bocca del nostro padre Davide tuo servo, hai detto: Perché tumultuano le genti e i popoli tramano vani progetti?
26 Kings on earth take up position, princes plot together against the Lord and his Anointed.	26 Sono insorti i re della terra e i capi hanno fatto congiura contro il Signore e contro il suo Cristo!
27 'This is what has come true: in this very city Herod and Pontius Pilate plotted together with the gentilenations and the peoples of Israel, against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,	27 Davvero in questa città hanno fatto congiura contro il tuo santo servo Gesù, da te consacrato, Erode e Ponzio Pilato con i pagani e i popoli d'Israele,
28 to bring about the very thing that you in your strength and your wisdom had predetermined shouldhappen.	28 per compiere quanto la tua mano e la tua volontà avevano stabilito che avvenisse.
29 And now, Lord, take note of their threats and help your servants to proclaim your message with alfearlessness,	29 Ed ora, Signore, guarda dall'alto le loro minacce e da' ai tuoi servi di proclamare con pieno coraggio la tua parola,
30 by stretching out your hand to heal and to work miracles and marvels through the name of your holyservant Jesus.'	30 stendendo la tua mano perché si compiano guarigioni, miracoli e prodigi nel nome del tuo santo servo Gesù".
31 As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked. From this time they were all fil ed withthe Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God fearlessly.	31 Mentre pregavano, il luogo in cui erano radunati si scosse, furono riempiti tutti di Spirito Santo e proclamavano la parola di Dio con pieno coraggio.
32 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed private ownership of anypossessions, as everything they owned was held in common.	32 La moltitudine di coloro che avevano abbracciato la fede aveva un cuore e un'anima sola. Non v'era nessuno che ritenesse cosa propria alcunché di ciò che possedeva, ma tutto era fra loro comune.
33 The apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power, and they wereal accorded great respect.	33 Con grandi segni di potenza gli apostoli rendevano testimonianza alla risurrezione del Signore Gesù. Erano tutti circondati da grande benevolenza.
34 None of their members was ever in want, as al those who owned land or houses would sel them, andbring the money from the sale of them,	34 Non c'era infatti tra loro alcun bisognoso: poiché quanti possedevano campi o case, li vendevano e portavano il ricavato delle vendite
35 to present it to the apostles; it was then distributed to any who might be in need.	35 mettendolo ai piedi degli apostoli. Veniva poi distribuito a ciascuno secondo che ne aveva bisogno.
36 There was a Levite of Cypriot origin called Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Barnabas (whichmeans 'son of encouragement').	36 Anche Giuseppe, chiamato dagli apostoli Bàrnaba, che vuol dire "figlio di consolazione", levita, nativo di Cipro,
37 He owned a piece of land and he sold it and brought the money and presented it to the apostles.	37 essendo in possesso di un campo, lo vendette, e andò a deporre il prezzo ai piedi degli apostoli.
