Acts of the Apostles 4

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 While they were stil talking to the people the priests came up to them, accompanied by the captain ofthe Temple and the Sadducees.	1 ORA, mentre essi parlavano al popolo, i sacerdoti, e il capo del tempio, e i Sadducei, sopraggiunsero loro;
2 They were extremely annoyed at their teaching the people the resurrection from the dead by proclaimingthe resurrection of Jesus.	2 essendo molto crucciosi, perchè ammaestravano il popolo, ed annunziavano in Gesù la risurrezione de’ morti.
3 They arrested them, and, as it was already late, they kept them in prison till the next day.	3 E misero loro le mani addosso, e li posero in prigione, fino al giorno seguente, perciocchè già era sera.
4 But many of those who had listened to their message became believers; the total number of men hadnow risen to something like five thousand.	4 Or molti di coloro che aveano udita la parola credettero; e il numero degli uomini divenne intorno a cinquemila
5 It happened that the next day the rulers, elders and scribes held a meeting in Jerusalem	5 E il dì seguente, i rettori, anziani, e Scribi, si raunarono in Gerusalemme;
6 with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, Jonathan, Alexander and al the members of the high-priestlyfamilies.	6 insieme con Anna, sommo sacerdote; e Caiafa, e Giovanni, ed Alessandro, e tutti quelli che erano del legnaggio sacerdotale.
7 They made the prisoners stand in the middle and began to interrogate them, 'By what power, and bywhose name have you men done this?'	7 E fatti comparir quivi in mezzo Pietro e Giovanni, domandaron loro: Con qual podestà, o in nome di chi avete voi fatto questo?
8 Then Peter, fil ed with the Holy Spirit, addressed them, 'Rulers of the people, and elders!	8 Allora Pietro, ripieno dello Spirito Santo, disse loro: Rettori del popolo, ed anziani d’Israele;
9 If you are questioning us today about an act of kindness to a cripple and asking us how he was healed,	9 poichè oggi noi siamo esaminati intorno ad un beneficio fatto ad un uomo infermo, per saper come egli è stato sanato;
10 you must know, all of you, and the whole people of Israel, that it is by the name of Jesus Christ theNazarene, whom you crucified, and God raised from the dead, by this name and by no other that this manstands before you cured.	10 sia noto a tutti voi, ed a tutto il popolo d’Israele, che ciò è stato fatto nel nome di Gesù Cristo il Nazareo, che voi avete crocifisso, e il quale Iddio ha suscitato da’ morti; in virtù d’esso comparisce quest’uomo in piena sanità in presenza vostra.
11 This is the stone which you, the builders, rejected but which has become the cornerstone. Only in himis there salvation;	11 Esso è quella pietra, che è stata da voi edificatori sprezzata, la quale è divenuta il capo del cantone.
12 for of al the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved.'	12 E in niun altro è la salute; poichè non vi è alcun altro nome sotto il cielo, che sia dato agli uomini, per lo quale ci convenga esser salvati.
13 They were astonished at the fearlessness shown by Peter and John, considering that they wereuneducated laymen; and they recognised them as associates of Jesus;	13 Or essi, veduta la franchezza di Pietro e di Giovanni; ed avendo inteso ch’erano uomini senza lettere, e idioti, si maravigliavano, e riconoscevan bene che erano stati con Gesù.
14 but when they saw the man who had been cured standing by their side, they could find no answer.	14 E veggendo quell’uomo ch’era stato guarito quivi presente con loro, non potevano dir nulla incontro
15 So they ordered them to stand outside while the Sanhedrin had a private discussion.	15 Ed avendo lor comandato di uscire dal concistoro, conferivan fra loro, dicendo:
16 'What are we going to do with these men?' they asked. 'It is obvious to everybody in Jerusalem that anotable miracle has been worked through them, and we cannot deny it.	16 Che faremo a questi uomini? poichè egli è noto a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme che un evidente miracolo è da loro stato fatto; e noi nol possiamo negare.
17 But to stop the whole thing spreading any further among the people, let us threaten them against everspeaking to anyone in this name again.'	17 Ma, acciocchè questo non si spanda maggiormente fra il popolo, divietiam loro con severe minacce, che non parlino più ad alcun uomo in questo nome.
18 So they cal ed them in and gave them a warning on no account to make statements or to teach in thename of Jesus.	18 Ed avendoli chiamati, ingiunser loro che del tutto non parlassero, e non insegnassero nel nome di Gesù.
19 But Peter and John retorted, 'You must judge whether in God's eyes it is right to listen to you and not toGod.	19 Ma Pietro, e Giovanni, rispondendo, dissero loro: Giudicate voi, s’egli è giusto nel cospetto di Dio, di ubbidire a voi, anzi che a Dio.
20 We cannot stop proclaiming what we have seen and heard.'	20 Poichè, quant’è a noi, non possiam non parlare le cose che abbiam vedute, ed udite.
21 The court repeated the threats and then released them; they could not think of any way to punish them,since al the people were giving glory to God for what had happened.	21 Ed essi, minacciatili di nuovo, li lasciarono andare, non trovando nulla da poterli castigare, per cagion del popolo; poichè tutti glorificavano Iddio di ciò ch’era stato fatto.
22 The man who had been miraculously cured was over forty years old.	22 Perciocchè l’uomo, in cui era stato fatto quel miracolo della guarigione, era d’età di più di quarant’anni
23 As soon as they were released they went to the community and told them everything the chief priestsand elders had said to them.	23 Or essi, essendo stati rimandati, vennero a’ loro, e rapportaron loro tutte le cose che i principali sacerdoti, e gli anziani avean lor dette.
24 When they heard it they lifted up their voice to God with one heart. 'Master,' they prayed, 'it is you who made sky and earth and sea, and everything in them;	24 Ed essi, uditele, alzaron di pari consentimento la voce a Dio, e dissero: Signore, tu sei l’Iddio che hai fatto il cielo, e la terra, e il mare, e tutte le cose che sono in essi;
25 it is you who said through the Holy Spirit and speaking through our ancestor David, your servant: Whythis uproar among the nations, this impotent muttering of the peoples?	25 che hai, per lo Spirito Santo, detto per la bocca di Davide, tuo servitore: Perchè hanno fremuto le genti, ed hanno i popoli divisate cose vane?
26 Kings on earth take up position, princes plot together against the Lord and his Anointed.	26 I re della terra son compariti, e i principi si son raunati insieme contro al Signore, e contro al suo Cristo.
27 'This is what has come true: in this very city Herod and Pontius Pilate plotted together with the gentilenations and the peoples of Israel, against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,	27 Poichè veramente, contro al tuo santo Figliuolo, il quale tu hai unto, si sono raunati Erode, e Ponzio Pilato, insiem co’ Gentili, e co’ popoli d’Israele;
28 to bring about the very thing that you in your strength and your wisdom had predetermined shouldhappen.	28 per far tutte le cose, che la tua mano, e il tuo consiglio aveano innanzi determinato che fosser fatte.
29 And now, Lord, take note of their threats and help your servants to proclaim your message with alfearlessness,	29 Or al presente, Signore, riguarda alle lor minacce, e concedi ai tuoi servitori di parlar la tua parola con ogni franchezza;
30 by stretching out your hand to heal and to work miracles and marvels through the name of your holyservant Jesus.'	30 porgendo la tua mano, acciocchè si faccian guarigioni, e segni, e prodigi, per lo nome del tuo santo Figliuolo Gesù.
31 As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked. From this time they were all fil ed withthe Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God fearlessly.	31 E dopo ch’ebbero orato, il luogo ove erano raunati tremò; e furon tutti ripieni dello Spirito Santo, e parlavano la parola di Dio con franchezza
32 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed private ownership of anypossessions, as everything they owned was held in common.	32 E LA moltitudine di coloro che aveano creduto avea uno stesso cuore, ed una stessa anima; e niuno diceva alcuna cosa, di ciò ch’egli avea, esser sua; ma tutte le cose erano loro comuni.
33 The apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power, and they wereal accorded great respect.	33 E gli apostoli con gran forza rendevan testimonianza della risurrezion del Signor Gesù; e gran grazia era sopra tutti loro.
34 None of their members was ever in want, as al those who owned land or houses would sel them, andbring the money from the sale of them,	34 Poichè non vi era alcun bisognoso fra loro; perciocchè tutti coloro che possedevan poderi, o case, vendendole, portavano il prezzo delle cose vendute,
35 to present it to the apostles; it was then distributed to any who might be in need.	35 e lo mettevano a’ piedi degli apostoli; e poi era distribuito a ciascuno, secondo ch’egli avea bisogno.
36 There was a Levite of Cypriot origin called Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Barnabas (whichmeans 'son of encouragement').	36 Or Giuseppe, soprannominato dagli apostoli Barnaba il che, interpretato, vuol dire: Figliuol di consolazione, Levita, Cipriota di nazione,
37 He owned a piece of land and he sold it and brought the money and presented it to the apostles.	37 avendo un campo, lo vendè, e portò i danari, e li pose a’ piedi degli apostoli
