NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 From there he went to Derbe, and then on to Lystra, where there was a disciple cal ed Timothy, whosemother was Jewish and had become a believer; but his father was a Greek.	1 Pablo llegó luego a Derbe y más tarde a Listra, donde había un discípulo llamado Timoteo, hijo de una judía convertida a la fe y de padre pagano.
2 The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke wel of him,	2 Timoteo gozaba de buena fama entre los hermanos de Listra y de Iconio.
3 and Paul, who wanted to have him as a travel ing companion, had him circumcised. This was onaccount of the Jews in the locality where everyone knew his father was a Greek.	3 Pablo quería llevarlo consigo, y por eso lo hizo circuncidar en consideración a los judíos que había allí, ya que todo el mundo sabía que su padre era pagano.
4 As they visited one town after another, they passed on the decisions reached by the apostles andelders in Jerusalem, with instructions to observe them.	4 Por las ciudades donde pasaban, transmitían las decisiones tomadas en Jerusalén por los Apóstoles y los presbíteros, recomendando que las observaran.
5 So the churches grew strong in the faith, as well as growing daily in numbers.	5 Así, las Iglesias se consolidaban en la fe, y su número crecía día tras día.
6 They travel ed through Phrygia and the Galatian country, because they had been told by the Holy Spiritnot to preach the word in Asia.	6 Como el Espíritu Santo les había impedido anunciar la Palabra en la provincia de Asia, atravesaron Frigia y la región de Galacia.
7 When they reached the frontier of Mysia they tried to go into Bithynia, but as the Spirit of Jesus wouldnot al ow them,	7 Cuando llegaron a los límites de Misia, trataron de entrar en Bitinia, pero el Espíritu de Jesús no se lo permitió.
8 they went through Mysia and came down to Troas.	8 Pasaron entonces por Misia y descendieron a Tróade.
9 One night Paul had a vision: a Macedonian appeared and kept urging him in these words, 'Comeacross to Macedonia and help us.'	9 Durante la noche, Pablo tuvo una visión. Vio a un macedonio de pie, que le rogaba: «Ven hasta Macedonia y ayúdanos».
10 Once he had seen this vision we lost no time in arranging a passage to Macedonia, convinced thatGod had cal ed us to bring them the good news.	10 Apenas tuvo esa visión, tratamos de partir para Macedonia, convencidos de que Dios nos llamaba para que la evangelizáramos.
11 Sailing from Troas we made a straight run for Samothrace; the next day for Neapolis,	11 Nos embarcamos en Tróade y fuimos derecho a Samotracia, y al día siguiente a Neápolis.
12 and from there for Philippi, a Roman colony and the principal city of that district of Macedonia.	12 De allí fuimos a Filipos, ciudad importante de esta región de Macedonia y colonia romana. Pasamos algunos días en esta ciudad,
13 After a few days in this city we went outside the gates beside a river as it was the Sabbath and thiswas a customary place for prayer. We sat down and preached to the women who had come to the meeting.	13 y el sábado nos dirigimos a las afueras de la misma, a un lugar que estaba a orillas del río, donde se acostumbraba a hacer oración. 14 One of these women was called Lydia, a woman from the town of Thyatira who was in the purple-dyetrade, and who revered God. She listened to us, and the Lord opened her heart to accept what Paul was saying.	14 Había entre ellas una, llamada Lidia, negociante en púrpura, de la ciudad de Tiatira, que adoraba a Dios. El Señor le tocó el corazón para que aceptara las palabras de Pablo.
15 After she and her household had been baptised she kept urging us, 'If you judge me a true believer in the Lord,' she said, 'come and stay with us.' And she would take no refusal.	15 Después de bautizarse, junto con su familia, nos pidió: «Si ustedes consideran que he creído verdaderamente en el Señor, vengan a alojarse en mi casa»; y nos obligó a hacerlo.
16 It happened one day that as we were going to prayer, we were met by a slave-girl who was asoothsayer and made a lot of money for her masters by foretel ing the future.	16 Un día, mientras nos dirigíamos al lugar de oración, nos salió al encuentro una muchacha poseída de un espíritu de adivinación, que daba mucha ganancia a sus patrones adivinando la suerte.
17 This girl started fol owing Paul and the rest of us and shouting, 'Here are the servants of the MostHigh God; they have come to tel you how to be saved!'	17 Ella comenzó a seguirnos, a Pablo y a nosotros, gritando: «Esos hombres son los servidores del Dios Altísimo, que les anuncian a ustedes el camino de la salvación».
18 She did this day after day until Paul was exasperated and turned round and said to the spirit, 'I orderyou in the name of Jesus Christ to leave that woman.' The spirit went out of her then and there.	18 Así lo hizo durante varios días, hasta que al fin Pablo se cansó y, dándose vuelta, dijo al espíritu: «Yo te ordeno en nombre de Jesucristo que salgas de esta mujer», y en ese mismo momento el espíritu salió de ella.
19 When her masters saw that there was no hope of making any more money out of her, they seizedPaul and Silas and dragged them into the market place before the authorities.	19 Pero sus patrones, viendo desvanecerse las esperanzas y de lucro, se apoderaron de Pablo y de Silas, los arrastraron hasta la plaza pública ante las autoridades,
20 Taking them before the magistrates they said, 'These people are causing a disturbance in our city.They are Jews	20 y llevándolos delante de los magistrados, dijeron: «Esta gente está sembrando la confusión en nuestra ciudad. Son unos judíos
21 and are advocating practices which it is unlawful for us as Romans to accept or fol ow.'	21 que predican ciertas costumbres que nosotros, los romanos, no podemos admitir ni practicar».
22 The crowd joined in and showed its hostility to them, so the magistrates had them stripped andordered them to be flogged.	22 La multitud se amotinó en contra de ellos, y los magistrados les hicieron arrancar la ropa y ordenaron que los azotaran.
23 They were given many lashes and then thrown into prison, and the gaoler was told to keep a closewatch on them.	23 Después de haberlos golpeado despiadadamente, los encerraron en la prisión, ordenando al carcelero que los vigilara con mucho cuidado.
24 So, fol owing such instructions, he threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in thestocks.	24 Habiendo recibido esta orden, el carcelero los encerró en una celda interior y les sujetó los pies en el cepo.
25 In the middle of the night Paul and Silas were praying and singing God's praises, while the otherprisoners listened.	25 Cerca de la medianoche, Pablo y Silas oraban y cantaban alabanzas de Dios, mientras los otros prisioneros los escuchaban.
26 Suddenly there was an earthquake that shook the prison to its foundations. Al the doors flew openand the chains fel from al the prisoners.	26 De pronto, la tierra comenzó a temblar tan violentamente que se conmovieron los cimientos de la cárcel, y en un instante, todas las puertas se abrieron y las cadenas de los prisioneros se soltaron.
27 When the gaoler woke and saw the doors wide open he drew his sword and was about to commitsuicide, presuming that the prisoners had escaped.	27 El carcelero se despertó sobresaltado y, al ver abiertas las puertas de la prisión, desenvainó su espada con la intención de matarse, creyendo que los prisioneros se habían escapado.
28 But Paul shouted at the top of his voice, 'Do yourself no harm; we are al here.'	28 Pero Pablo le gritó: «No te hagas ningún mal, estamos todos aquí».
29 He cal ed for lights, then rushed in, threw himself trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas,	29 El carcelero pidió unas antorchas, entró precipitadamente en la celda y, temblando, se echó a los pies de Pablo y de Silas.
30 and escorted them out, saying, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?'	30 Luego los hizo salir y les preguntó: «Señores, ¿qué debo hacer para alcanzar la salvación?».
31 They told him, 'Become a believer in the Lord Jesus, and you wil be saved, and your household too.'	31 Ellos le respondieron: «Cree en el Señor Jesús y te salvarás, tú y toda tu familia».
32 Then they preached the word of the Lord to him and to al his household.	32 En seguida le anunciaron la Palabra del Señor, a él y a todos los de su casa.
33 Late as it was, he took them to wash their wounds, and was baptised then and there with al hishousehold.	33 A esa misma hora de la noche, el carcelero los atendió y curó sus llagas. Inmediatamente después, fue bautizado junto con toda su familia.
34 Afterwards he took them into his house and gave them a meal, and the whole household celebratedtheir conversion to belief in God.	34 Luego los hizo subir a su casa y preparó la mesa para festejar con los suyos la alegría de haber creído en Dios.
35 When it was daylight the magistrates sent the lictors with the order: 'Release those men.'	35 Cuando amaneció, los magistrados enviaron a los inspectores para que dijeran al carcelero: «Deja en libertad a esos hombres».
36 The gaoler reported the message to Paul, 'The magistrates have sent an order for your release; youcan go now and be on your way.'	36 El carcelero comunicó entonces a Pablo» «Los magistrados me mandan decir que los deje en libertad; por lo tanto, salgan y vayan en paz».
37 'What!' Paul replied. 'Without trial they gave us a public flogging, though we are Roman citizens, andthrew us into prison, and now they want to send us away on the quiet! Oh no! They must come and escort us outthemselves.'	37 Pero Pablo respondió a los inspectores: «Ellos nos hicieron azotar públicamente sin juicio previo, a nosotros que somos ciudadanos romanos, y nos pusieron en la cárcel. ¡Y ahora nos quieren hacer salir a escondidas! ¡De ninguna manera! 38 The lictors reported this to the magistrates, who were terrified when they heard they were Romancitizens.	38 Los inspectores repitieron estas palabras a los magistrados; estos, al enterarse de que eran ciudadanos romanos, se asustaron
