John 18

1 After he had said al this, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron valley where there was agarden into which he went with his disciples.	1 Miután Jézus ezeket elmondta, kiment tanítványaival a Kedron patakon túlra, ahol volt egy kert; oda ment be ő és a tanítványai.

5 They answered, 'Jesus the Nazarene.' He said, 'I am he.' Now Judas the traitor was standing amongthem.	5 Azt felelték neki: »A Názáreti Jézust.« Ő azt mondta nekik: »Én vagyok.« Ott állt velük Júdás is, aki elárulta őt.

8 Jesus replied, 'I have told you that I am he. If I am the one you are looking for, let these others go.'	8 Jézus megismételte: »Mondtam nektek: Én vagyok! Ha tehát engem kerestek, hagyjátok ezeket elmenni!«
9 This was to fulfil the words he had spoken, 'Not one of those you gave me have I lost.'	9 Be kellett teljesednie az igének, amelyet mondott: »Akiket nekem adtál, azok közül senkit sem vesztettem el.«

15 Simon Peter, with another disciple, fol owed Jesus. This disciple, who was known to the high priest,went with Jesus into the high priest's palace,	15 Simon Péter és egy másik tanítvány követte Jézust. Ez a tanítvány ismerőse volt a főpapnak, és bement Jézussal a főpap udvarába,
16 but Peter stayed outside the door. So the other disciple, the one known to the high priest, went out,spoke to the door-keeper and brought Peter in.	16 Péter pedig az ajtón kívül állt. 18 Now it was cold, and the servants and guards had lit a charcoal fire and were standing there warming themselves; so Peter stood there too, warming himself with the others.	18 Ott álltak a szolgák és poroszlók, akik tüzet raktak, mert hideg volt, és melegedtek. 19 The high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.	19 A főpap eközben tanítványairól és tanításáról kérdezte Jézust.
20 Jesus answered, 'I have spoken openly for al the world to hear; I have always taught in thesynagogue and in the Temple where al the Jews meet together; I have said nothing in secret.	20 Jézus azt felelte neki: »Én nyíltan beszéltem a világnak, mindig a zsinagógában tanítottam és a templomban, ahova a zsidók mindnyájan összegyűlnek, és titokban semmit sem mondtam.
21 Why ask me? Ask my hearers what I taught; they know what I said.'	21 Miért kérdezel engem? Kérdezd azokat, akik hallották, mit beszéltem nekik. Íme, ők tudják, mit mondtam.«
22 At these words, one of the guards standing by gave Jesus a slap in the face, saying, 'Is that the wayyou answer the high priest?'	22 Amikor ezeket mondta, az ott álló poroszlók egyike arcul ütötte Jézust, és így szólt: »Így felelsz a főpapnak?«
23 Jesus replied, 'If there is some offence in what I said, point it out; but if not, why do you strike me?'	23 Jézus azt felelte neki: »Ha rosszul szóltam, bizonyítsd be a rosszat, ha pedig jól, miért ütsz engem?«
24 Then Annas sent him, bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.	24 Akkor Annás elküldte őt megkötözve Kaifás főpaphoz.
25 As Simon Peter stood there warming himself, someone said to him, 'Aren't you another of hisdisciples?' He denied it saying, 'I am not.'	25 Simon Péter pedig ott állt és melegedett. Egyesek azt mondták neki: »Ugye te is az ő tanítványai közül való vagy?« Ő azonban letagadta: »Nem vagyok!«
26 One of the high priest's servants, a relation of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, 'Didn't I seeyou in the garden with him?'	26 A főpap egyik szolgája, rokona annak, akinek Péter levágta a fülét, így szólt: »Nem téged láttalak vele a kertben?«
27 Again Peter denied it; and at once a cock crowed.	27 Péter pedig ismét tagadta, és nyomban megszólalt a kakas.
28 They then led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the Praetorium. It was now morning. They did notgo into the Praetorium themselves to avoid becoming defiled and unable to eat the Passover.	28 Jézust Kaifástól a helytartóságra vezették. Kora reggel volt. Ők nem mentek be a helytartóságra, hogy tisztátalanná ne váljanak, és megehessék a húsvéti bárányt.
29 So Pilate came outside to them and said, 'What charge do you bring against this man?' They replied,	29 Ezért Pilátus ment ki hozzájuk, és megkérdezte: »Miféle vádat hoztok fel ez ellen az ember ellen?«
30 'If he were not a criminal, we should not have handed him over to you.'	30 Azt felelték neki: »Ha nem volna gonosztevő, nem adtuk volna őt a kezedbe.«
31 Pilate said, 'Take him yourselves, and try him by your own Law.' The Jews answered, 'We are notal owed to put anyone to death.'	31 Erre Pilátus azt mondta nekik: »Vegyétek át ti őt, és ítéljétek el a törvényetek szerint.« A zsidók azt felelték neki: »Nekünk senkit sem szabad megölnünk.«
32 This was to fulfil the words Jesus had spoken indicating the way he was going to die.	32 Ez azért történt, hogy beteljesedjék Jézus szava, amelyet mondott, jelezve, hogy milyen halállal fog meghalni.
33 So Pilate went back into the Praetorium and cal ed Jesus to him and asked him, 'Are you the king ofthe Jews?'	33 Ismét bement tehát Pilátus a helytartóságra, hívatta Jézust, és megkérdezte őt: »Te vagy-e a zsidók királya?«
34 Jesus replied, 'Do you ask this of your own accord, or have others said it to you about me?'	34 Jézus azt felelte: »Magadtól mondod ezt, vagy mások mondták neked rólam?«
35 Pilate answered, 'Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have handed you overto me: what have you done?'	35 Pilátus ezt válaszolta: »Hát zsidó vagyok én? Saját nemzeted és a főpapok adtak téged a kezembe. Mit tettél?«
36 Jesus replied, 'Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men wouldhave fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. As it is, my kingdom does not belong here.'	36 Jézus azt felelte: »Az én országom nem ebből a világból való. Ha az én országom ebből a világból volna, szolgáim harcra kelnének, hogy a zsidók kezébe ne kerüljek. De az én országom nem innen való.«
37 Pilate said, 'So, then you are a king?' Jesus answered, 'It is you who say that I am a king. I was bornfor this, I came into the world for this, to bear witness to the truth; and al who are on the side of truth listen to myvoice.'	37 Pilátus erre megkérdezte: »Tehát király vagy te?« Jézus azt felelte: »Te mondod, hogy király vagyok. Arra születtem és azért jöttem a világba, hogy tanúságot tegyek az igazságról. Mindaz, aki az igazságból való, hallgat a szavamra.«
38 'Truth?' said Pilate. 'What is that?' And so saying he went out again to the Jews and said, 'I find nocase against him.	38 Pilátus erre így szólt: »Mi az igazság?« Majd e szavak után ismét kiment a zsidókhoz, és azt mondta nekik: »Én semmi vétket sem találok őbenne.
39 But according to a custom of yours I should release one prisoner at the Passover; would you like me,then, to release for you the king of the Jews?'	39 Szokás pedig nálatok, hogy húsvétkor szabadon bocsássak nektek valakit. Akarjátok-e, hogy szabadon bocsássam nektek a zsidók királyát?«
40 At this they shouted, 'Not this man,' they said, 'but Barabbas.' Barabbas was a bandit.	40 Erre ismét így kiáltoztak: »Ne ezt, hanem Barabást!« Barabás pedig rabló volt.
