Luke 4

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Fil ed with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert,	1 Gesù, pieno di Spirito Santo, ritornò dal Giordano e, sotto l'azione dello Spirito Santo, andò nel deserto,
2 for forty days being put to the test by the devil. During that time he ate nothing and at the end he washungry.	2 dove rimase per quaranta giorni tentato dal diavolo. Per tutti quei giorni non mangiò nulla: alla fine ebbe fame.
3 Then the devil said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel this stone to turn into a loaf.'	3 Allora il diavolo gli disse: "Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, comanda a questa pietra di diventare pane".
4 But Jesus replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone.'	4 Gesù gli rispose: "E' scritto: Non di solo pane vive l'uomo".
5 Then leading him to a height, the devil showed him in a moment of time al the kingdoms of the world	5 Il diavolo allora condusse Gesù più in alto, gli fece vedere in un solo istante tutti i regni della terra,
6 and said to him, 'I wil give you al this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, forme to give it to anyone I choose.	6 e gli disse: "Ti darò tutta questa potenza e le ricchezze di questi regni, perché a me sono stati dati e io li do a chi voglio.
7 Do homage, then, to me, and it shal al be yours.'	7 Se tu ti inginocchierai davanti a me, tutto sarà tuo".
8 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: You must do homage to the Lord your God, him alone youmust serve.'	8 Gesù gli rispose: "E' scritto: Adorerai il Signore, Dio tuo, a lui solo rivolgerai la tua preghiera".
9 Then he led him to Jerusalem and set him on the parapet of the Temple. 'If you are Son of God,' he saidto him, 'throw yourself down from here,	9 Lo condusse allora a Gerusalemme, lo pose sulla parte più alta del tempio. E gli disse: "Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, gèttati giù di qui,
10 for scripture says: He has given his angels orders about you, to guard you, and again:	10 poiché sta scritto: Dio comanderà ai suoi angeli per te, perché ti proteggano.
11 They wil carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'	11 E ancora: Ti sosterranno con le mani perché il tuo piede non abbia ad inciampare in una pietra".
12 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'	12 Gesù gli rispose: "E' stato anche detto: Non metterai alla prova il Signore, tuo Dio".
13 Having exhausted every way of putting him to the test, the devil left him, until the opportune moment.	13 Alla fine, avendo esaurito ogni genere di tentazione, il diavolo si allontanò da lui per un certo tempo.
14 Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout thecountryside.	14 Gesù ritornò nella Galilea con la potenza dello Spirito. La sua fama si diffuse in tutta la regione.
15 He taught in their synagogues and everyone glorified him.	15 Insegnava nelle loro sinagoghe e tutti lo lodavano.
16 He came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath dayas he usually did. He stood up to read,	16 Si recò a Nàzaret, dove era stato allevato. Era sabato e, come al solito, entrò nella sinagoga e si alzò a leggere.
17 and they handed him the scrol of the prophet Isaiah. Unrol ing the scrol he found the place where it iswritten:	17 Gli fu presentato il libro del profeta Isaia ed egli, apertolo, s'imbatté nel passo in cui c'era scritto:
18 The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He hassent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,	18 Lo Spirito del Signore è sopra di me, per questo mi ha consacrato e mi ha inviato a portare ai poveri il lieto annunzio, ad annunziare ai prigionieri la liberazione e il dono della vista ai ciechi; per liberare coloro che sono oppressi,
19 to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.	19 e inaugurare l'anno di grazia del Signore.
20 He then rol ed up the scrol , gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.	20 Poi, arrotolato il volume, lo restituì al servitore e si sedette. Tutti coloro che erano presenti nella sinagoga tenevano gli occhi fissi su di lui.
21 Then he began to speak to them, 'This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.'	21 Allora cominciò a dire: "Oggi si è adempiuta questa scrittura per voi che mi ascoltate".
22 And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from hislips. They said, 'This is Joseph's son, surely?'	22 Tutti gli rendevano testimonianza ed erano stupiti per le parole piene di grazia che pronunciava. E si chiedevano: "Ma costui non è il figlio di Giuseppe?".
23 But he replied, 'No doubt you will quote me the saying, "Physician, heal yourself," and tel me, "We have heard al that happened in Capernaum, do the same here in your own country." '	23 Ed egli rispose: "Sono sicuro che mi citerete il proverbio: "Medico, cura te stesso". Tutto ciò che abbiamo udito che è avvenuto a Cafarnao, fallo anche qui, nella tua patria". Ed aggiunse:
24 And he went on, 'In truth I tel you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.	24 "In verità vi dico: nessun profeta è bene accetto nella sua patria.
25 'There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijah's day, when heaven remained shut forthree years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land,	25 Vi dico inoltre: c'erano molte vedove in Israele al tempo del profeta Elia, quando per tre anni e sei mesi non cadde alcuna goccia di pioggia ed una grande carestia dilagò per tutto il paese;
26 but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia.	26 a nessuna di loro però fu mandato il profeta Elia, ma solo ad una vedova di Sarepta, nella regione di Sidone.
27 And in the prophet Elisha's time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, butnone of these was cured -- only Naaman the Syrian.'	27 E c'erano molti lebbrosi in Israele ai tempi del profeta Eliseo; eppure a nessuno di loro fu dato il dono della guarigione, ma solo a Naaman il siro".
28 When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.	28 Sentendo queste cose, coloro che erano presenti nella sinagoga furono presi dall'ira
29 They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hilltheir town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,	29 e, alzatisi, lo cacciarono fuori della città e lo condussero fino in cima al monte sul quale era situata la loro città per farlo precipitare giù.
30 but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.	30 Egli però, passando in mezzo a loro, se ne andò.
31 He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath.	31 Allora discese a Cafarnao, una città della Galilea, e insegnava alla gente nei giorni di sabato.
32 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because his word carried authority.	32 Coloro che l'ascoltavano si meravigliavano del suo insegnamento, perché parlava con autorità.
33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and he shouted at thetop of his voice,	33 In quella sinagoga c'era un uomo posseduto da uno spirito cattivo e si mise a gridare:
34 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who youare: the Holy One of God.'	34 "Perché ti interessi di me, Gesù di Nàzaret? Sei venuto a mandarci in rovina? Io so chi tu sei: il Santo di Dio!".
35 But Jesus rebuked it, saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!' And the devil, throwing the man into themiddle, went out of him without hurting him at all.	35 Ma Gesù lo sgridò severamente e gli ordinò: "Sta' zitto ed esci subito da quest'uomo!". Allora il demonio, gettato a terra quell'uomo davanti a tutti, uscì da lui senza fargli alcun male.
36 Astonishment seized them and they were al saying to one another, 'What is it in his words? He givesorders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.'	36 Tutti i presenti furono presi da paura e si scambiavano le loro impressioni dicendo: "Che parola è mai questa? Con autorità e con potenza egli comanda agli spiriti cattivi, ed essi si vedono costretti ad andarsene".
37 And the news of him travel ed al through the surrounding countryside.	37 E di lui si parlava ormai in tutta quella regione.
38 Leaving the synagogue he went to Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was in the grip of ahigh fever and they asked him to do something for her.	38 Uscito dalla sinagoga andò nella casa di Simone. La suocera di Simone era afflitta da una grande febbre e lo pregarono perché la guarisse.
39 Standing over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to servethem.	39 Allora, chinatosi su di lei, minacciò la febbre, e la febbre la lasciò. Alzatasi all'istante, la donna prese a servirli.
40 At sunset al those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them tohim, and laying his hands on each he cured them.	40 Dopo il tramonto del sole, tutti quelli che avevano malati li portarono da lui. Egli li guariva imponendo le mani sopra ciascuno di loro.
41 Devils too came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God.' But he warned them andwould not al ow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.	41 Da molti uscivano in quel momento dei demòni che gridavano: "Tu sei il Figlio di Dio". Ma Gesù li sgridava severamente e impediva loro di parlare, perché sapevano che era il Messia.
42 When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look forhim, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them,	42 Fattosi giorno, uscì e si ritirò in un luogo solitario, ma una gran folla lo cercava. Lo trovarono e volevano tenerlo sempre con loro, senza mai lasciarlo partire.
43 but he answered, 'I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too,because that is what I was sent to do.'	43 Ma egli disse loro: "Bisogna che io annunzi la bella notizia del regno di Dio anche alle altre città: per questo sono stato mandato".
44 And he continued his proclamation in the synagogues of Judaea.	44 E andava predicando da una sinagoga all'altra della Giudea.
