Luke 4

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Fil ed with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert,	1 Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, regresó de las orillas del Jordán y fue conducido por el Espíritu al desierto,
2 for forty days being put to the test by the devil. During that time he ate nothing and at the end he washungry.	2 donde fue tentado por el demonio durante cuarenta días. No comió nada durante esos días, y al cabo de ellos tuvo hambre.
3 Then the devil said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel this stone to turn into a loaf.'	3 El demonio le dijo entonces: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, manda a esta piedra que se convierta en pan».
4 But Jesus replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone.'	4 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Dice la Escritura: "El hombre no vive solamente de pan"».
5 Then leading him to a height, the devil showed him in a moment of time al the kingdoms of the world	5 Luego el demonio lo llevó a un lugar más alto, le mostró en un instante todos los reinos de la tierra
6 and said to him, 'I wil give you al this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, forme to give it to anyone I choose.	6 y le dijo: «Te daré todo este poder y esplendor de estos reinos, porque me han sido entregados, y yo los doy a quien quiero.
7 Do homage, then, to me, and it shal al be yours.'	7 Si tú te postras delante de mí, todo eso te pertenecerá».
8 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: You must do homage to the Lord your God, him alone youmust serve.'	8 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios, y a él solo rendirás culto"».
9 Then he led him to Jerusalem and set him on the parapet of the Temple. 'If you are Son of God,' he saidto him, 'throw yourself down from here,	9 Después el demonio lo condujo a Jerusalén, lo puso en la parte más alta del Templo y le dijo: «Si tú eres Hijo de Dios, tírate de aquí abajo,
10 for scripture says: He has given his angels orders about you, to guard you, and again:	10 porque está escrito: "El dará órdenes a sus ángeles para que ellos te cuiden".
11 They wil carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'	11 Y también: "Ellos te llevarán en sus manos para que tu pie no tropiece con ninguna piedra"».
12 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'	12 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: "No tentarás al Señor, tu Dios"».
13 Having exhausted every way of putting him to the test, the devil left him, until the opportune moment.	13 Una vez agotadas todas las formas de tentación, el demonio se alejó de él, hasta el momento oportuno.
14 Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout thecountryside.	14 Jesús volvió a Galilea con el poder el Espíritu y su fama se extendió en toda la región.
15 He taught in their synagogues and everyone glorified him.	15 Enseñaba en las sinagogas y todos lo alababan.
16 He came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath dayas he usually did. He stood up to read,	16 Jesús fue a Nazaret, donde se había criado; el sábado entró como de costumbre en la sinagoga y se levantó para hacer la lectura.
17 and they handed him the scrol of the prophet Isaiah. Unrol ing the scrol he found the place where it iswritten:	17 Le presentaron el libro del profeta Isaías y, abriéndolo, encontró el pasaje donde estaba escrito:
18 The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He hassent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,	18 "El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha consagrado por la unción. El me envió a llevar la Buena Noticia a los pobres, a anunciar la liberación a los cautivos y la vista a los ciegos, a dar la libertad a los oprimidos
19 to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.	19 y proclamar un año de gracia del Señor".
20 He then rol ed up the scrol , gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.	20 Jesús cerró el Libro, lo devolvió al ayudante y se sentó. Todos en la sinagoga tenían los ojos fijos en él.
21 Then he began to speak to them, 'This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.'	21 Entonces comenzó a decirles: «Hoy se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír».
22 And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from hislips. They said, 'This is Joseph's son, surely?'	22 Todos daban testimonio a favor de él y estaban llenos de admiración por las palabras de gracia que salían de su boca. Y decían: «¿No es este el hijo de José?».
23 But he replied, 'No doubt you will quote me the saying, "Physician, heal yourself," and tel me, "We have heard al that happened in Capernaum, do the same here in your own country." '	23 Pero él les respondió: «Sin duda ustedes me citarán el refrán: "Médico, cúrate a ti mismo". Realiza también aquí, en tu patria, todo lo que hemos oído que sucedió en Cafarnaúm».
24 And he went on, 'In truth I tel you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.	24 Después agregó: «Les aseguro que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su tierra.
25 'There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijah's day, when heaven remained shut forthree years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land,	25 Yo les aseguro que había muchas viudas en Israel en el tiempo de Elías, cuando durante tres años y seis meses no hubo lluvia del cielo y el hambre azotó a todo el país.
26 but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia.	26 Sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viuda de Sarepta, en el país de Sidón.
27 And in the prophet Elisha's time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, butnone of these was cured -- only Naaman the Syrian.'	27 También había muchos leprosos en Israel, en el tiempo del profeta Eliseo, pero ninguno de ellos fue curado, sino Naamán, el sirio».
28 When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.	28 Al oír estas palabras, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se enfurecieron
29 They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hilltheir town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,	29 y, levantándose, lo empujaron fuera de la ciudad, hasta un lugar escarpado de la colina sobre la que se levantaba la ciudad, con intención de despeñarlo.
30 but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.	30 Pero Jesús, pasando en medio de ellos, continuó su camino.
31 He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath.	31 Jesús bajó a Cafarnaúm, ciudad de Galilea, y enseñaba los sábados.
32 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because his word carried authority.	32 Y todos estaban asombrados de su enseñanza, porque hablaba con autoridad.
33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and he shouted at thetop of his voice,	33 En la sinagoga había un hombre que estaba poseído por el espíritu de un demonio impuro; y comenzó a gritar con fuerza;
34 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who youare: the Holy One of God.'	34 «¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido para acabar con nosotros? Ya sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios».
35 But Jesus rebuked it, saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!' And the devil, throwing the man into themiddle, went out of him without hurting him at all.	35 Pero Jesús lo increpó, diciendo: «Cállate y sal de este hombre». El demonio salió de él, arrojándolo al suelo en medio de todos. sin hacerle ningún daño.
36 Astonishment seized them and they were al saying to one another, 'What is it in his words? He givesorders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.'	36 El temor se apoderó de todos, y se decían unos a otros: «¿Qué tiene su palabra? ¡Manda con autoridad y poder a los espíritus impuros, y ellos salen!».
37 And the news of him travel ed al through the surrounding countryside.	37 Y su fama se extendía por todas partes en aquella región.
38 Leaving the synagogue he went to Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was in the grip of ahigh fever and they asked him to do something for her.	38 Al salir de la sinagoga, entró en la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón tenía mucha fiebre, y le pidieron que hiciera algo por ella.
39 Standing over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to servethem.	39 Inclinándose sobre ella, Jesús increpó a la fiebre y esta desapareció. En seguida, ella se levantó y se puso a servirlos.
40 At sunset al those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them tohim, and laying his hands on each he cured them.	40 Al atardecer, todos los que tenían enfermos afectados de diversas dolencias se los llevaron, y él, imponiendo las manos sobre cada uno de ellos, los curaba.
41 Devils too came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God.' But he warned them andwould not al ow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.	41 De muchos salían demonios, gritando: «Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!». Pero él los increpaba y no los dejaba hablar, porque ellos sabían que era el Mesías.
42 When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look forhim, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them,	42 Cuando amaneció, Jesús salió y se fue a un lugar desierto. La multitud comenzó a buscarlo y, cuando lo encontraron, querían retenerlo para que no se alejara de ellos.
43 but he answered, 'I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too,because that is what I was sent to do.'	43 Pero él les dijo: «También a las otras ciudades debo anunciar la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios, porque para eso he sido enviado».
44 And he continued his proclamation in the synagogues of Judaea.	44 Y predicaba en las sinagogas de toda la Judea.
