Luke 16

1 He also said to his disciples, 'There was a rich man and he had a steward who was denounced to himfor being wasteful with his property.	1 ויאמר גם אל תלמידיו איש עשיר היה ולו פקיד על ביתו וילשינהו אליו באמרם כי מפזר הוא את קניניך
2 He called for the man and said, "What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of yourstewardship because you are not to be my steward any longer."	2 ויקרא אתו ויאמר אליו מה זאת שמעתי עליך תן חשבון פקדתך כי לא תוכל להיות עוד פקיד
3 Then the steward said to himself, "Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I todo? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed.	3 ויאמר הפקיד בלבו מה אעשה כי יקח אדני ממני את הפקדה לעדר לא אוכל ולשאל על הפתחים אני בוש
4 Ah, I know what I wil do to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some towelcome me into their homes."	4 ידעתי מה אעשה למען יאספוני אל בתיהם בעת אוסר מפקדתי
5 'Then he called his master's debtors one by one. To the first he said, "How much do you owe mymaster?"	5 ויקרא אל כל איש אשר נשה בהם אדניו וישאל את הראשון כמה אתה חיב לאדני
6 "One hundred measures of oil," he said. The steward said, "Here, take your bond; sit down and quickly write fifty."	6 ויאמר מאת בתי שמן ויאמר אליו קח את שטרך ומהר שב וכתבת חמשים
7 To another he said, "And you, sir, how much do you owe?" "One hundred measures of wheat," hesaid. The steward said, "Here, take your bond and write eighty."	7 ואל אחר אמר כמה אתה חיב ויאמר מאת כר חטים ויאמר קח את שטרך וכתב שמנים
8 'The master praised the dishonest steward for his astuteness. For the children of this world are moreastute in dealing with their own kind than are the children of light.'	8 וישבח האדון את פקיד העולה על אשר הערים לעשות כי בני העולם הזה ערומים הם בדורם מבני האור
9 'And so I tel you this: use money, tainted as it is, to win you friends, and thus make sure that when itfails you, they wil welcome you into eternal dwel ings.	9 וגם אני אמר לכם עשו לכם אהבים בממון העולה למען בעת כלתו יאספו אתכם אל משכנות עולם
10 Anyone who is trustworthy in little things is trustworthy in great; anyone who is dishonest in littlethings is dishonest in great.	10 הנאמן במעט מזער נאמן גם בהרבה והמעול במעט מזער מעול גם בהרבה
11 If then you are not trustworthy with money, that tainted thing, who wil trust you with genuine riches?	11 לכן אם בממון העולה לא הייתם נאמנים את האמתי מי יפקיד בידכם
12 And if you are not trustworthy with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?	12 ואם בדבר אשר לאחרים לא הייתם נאמנים את אשר לכם מי יתן לכם
13 'No servant can be the slave of two masters: he wil either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.'	13 אין עבד אשר יוכל לעבד שני אדנים כי ישנא את האחד ויאהב את האחר או ידבק באחד ואת האחר יבזה לא תוכלו עבד את האלהים ואת הממון
14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and jeered at him.	14 וישמעו כל זאת גם הפרושים אשר הם אהבי כסף וילעגו לו
15 He said to them, 'You are the very ones who pass yourselves off as upright in people's sight, but Godknows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed in human eyes is loathsome in the sight of God.	15 ויאמר אליהם אתם הם המצטדקים לפני האדם ואלהים יודע את לבבכם כי הגבה באדם תועבה הוא לפני האלהים
16 'Up to the time of John it was the Law and the Prophets; from then onwards, the kingdom of God hasbeen preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it.	16 התורה והנביאים עד יוחנן ומן אז והלאה בשורת מלכות האלהים וכל איש בחזקה יבוא בה
17 'It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one little stroke to drop out of the Law.	17 אבל נקל כי יעברו השמים והארץ מאשר יפל קוץ אחד מן התורה
18 'Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery, and the man who marries awoman divorced by her husband commits adultery.	18 כל איש המשלח את אשתו ולקח אחרת נאף הוא וכל הלקח את הגרושה מאישה נאף הוא
19 'There was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and feast magnificently every day.	19 איש עשיר היה והוא לבוש ארגמן ושש ויתעגג וישמח יום יום
20 And at his gate there used to lie a poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores,	20 ואיש אביון ושמו לעזר משכב פתח שער ביתו והוא מלא אבעבעות
21 who longed to fil himself with what fel from the rich man's table. Even dogs came and licked hissores.	21 ויתאו לשבע מן הפרורים הנפלים מעל שלחן העשיר וגם הכלבים באו וילקו אבעבעותיו
22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels into Abraham'sembrace. The rich man also died and was buried.	22 ויהי כאשר מת האביון ויובל על ידי המלאכים אל חיק אברהם וימת גם העשיר ויקבר
23 'In his torment in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off with Lazarus in his embrace.	23 ובהיותו במכאבות בשאול וישא את עיניו וירא את אברהם מרחוק ואת לעזר בחיקו
24 So he cried out, "Father Abraham, pity me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water andcool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames."	24 ויצעק ויאמר אבי אברהם חנני ושלח נא את לעזר ויטבל את קצה אצבעו במים למען קרר את לשוני כי עניתי במוקד הזה
25 Abraham said, "My son, remember that during your life you had your fill of good things, just asLazarus his fill of bad. Now he is being comforted here while you are in agony.	25 ויאמר אברהם בני זכר כי לקחת טובך בחייך וגם לעזר לקח את הרעות ועתה הוא ינחם ואתה תצטער
26 But that is not al : between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, to prevent those who want tocross from our side to yours or from your side to ours."	26 ומלבד כל זאת שוחה גדולה מפסקת בינינו וביניכם לבלתי יוכלו עבור החפצים ללכת מפה אליכם ולבלתי יעברו משם אלינו
27 'So he said, "Father, I beg you then to send Lazarus to my father's house,	27 ויאמר אם כן אבי שאל אני מאתך כי תשלח אתו אל בית אבי
28 since I have five brothers, to give them warning so that they do not come to this place of torment too."	28 כי יש לי חמשה אחים למען יעיד בהם פן יבאו גם הם אל מקום המעצבה הזה
29 Abraham said, "They have Moses and the prophets, let them listen to them."	29 ויאמר אברהם יש להם משה והנביאים אליהם ישמעון
30 The rich man replied, "Ah no, father Abraham, but if someone comes to them from the dead, they willrepent."	30 ויאמר לא כן אבי אברהם אך אם ילך אליהם אחד מן המתים אז ישובו
31 Then Abraham said to him, "If they wil not listen either to Moses or to the prophets, they wil not beconvinced even if someone should rise from the dead."	31 ויאמר אליו אם לא ישמעו אל משה ואל הנביאים גם כי יקום אחד מן המתים לא יאמינו
