Luke 16

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 He also said to his disciples, 'There was a rich man and he had a steward who was denounced to himfor being wasteful with his property.	1 Il disait encore à ses disciples: "Il était un homme riche qui avait un intendant, et celui-ci lui futdénoncé comme dilapidant ses biens.
2 He called for the man and said, "What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of yourstewardship because you are not to be my steward any longer."	2 Il le fit appeler et lui dit: Qu'est-ce que j'entends dire de toi? Rends compte de ta gestion, car tu nepeux plus gérer mes biens désormais.
3 Then the steward said to himself, "Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I todo? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed.	3 L'intendant se dit en lui-même: Que vais-je faire, puisque mon maître me retire la gérance? Piocher? Jen'en ai pas la force; mendier? J'aurai honte...
4 Ah, I know what I wil do to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some towelcome me into their homes."	4 Ah! je sais ce que je vais faire, pour qu'une fois relevé de ma gérance, il y en ait qui m'accueillent chezeux.
5 'Then he called his master's debtors one by one. To the first he said, "How much do you owe mymaster?"	5 "Et, faisant venir un à un les débiteurs de son maître, il dit au premier: Combien dois-tu à mon maître?--
6 "One hundred measures of oil," he said. The steward said, "Here, take your bond; sit down and quickly write fifty."	6 Cent barils d'huile, lui dit-il. Il lui dit: Prends ton billet, assieds-toi et écris vite 50.
7 To another he said, "And you, sir, how much do you owe?" "One hundred measures of wheat," hesaid. The steward said, "Here, take your bond and write eighty."	7 Puis il dit à un autre: Et toi, combien dois-tu? - Cent mesures de blé, dit-il. Il lui dit: Prends ton billet,et écris 80.
8 'The master praised the dishonest steward for his astuteness. For the children of this world are moreastute in dealing with their own kind than are the children of light.'	8 "Et le maître loua cet intendant malhonnête d'avoir agi de façon avisée. Car les fils de ce monde-cisont plus avisés envers leurs propres congénères que les fils de la lumière.
9 'And so I tel you this: use money, tainted as it is, to win you friends, and thus make sure that when itfails you, they wil welcome you into eternal dwel ings.	9 "Eh bien! moi je vous dis: faites-vous des amis avec le malhonnête Argent, afin qu'au jour où ilviendra à manquer, ceux-ci vous accueillent dans les tentes éternelles.
10 Anyone who is trustworthy in little things is trustworthy in great; anyone who is dishonest in littlethings is dishonest in great.	10 Qui est fidèle en très peu de chose est fidèle aussi en beaucoup, et qui est malhonnête en très peu estmalhonnête aussi en beaucoup.
11 If then you are not trustworthy with money, that tainted thing, who wil trust you with genuine riches?	11 Si donc vous ne vous êtes pas montrés fidèles pour le malhonnête Argent, qui vous confiera le vraibien?
12 And if you are not trustworthy with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?	12 Et si vous ne vous êtes pas montrés fidèles pour le bien étranger, qui vous donnera le vôtre?
13 'No servant can be the slave of two masters: he wil either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.'	13 "Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres: ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un etméprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et l'Argent."
14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and jeered at him.	14 Les Pharisiens, qui sont amis de l'argent, entendaient tout cela et ils se moquaient de lui.
15 He said to them, 'You are the very ones who pass yourselves off as upright in people's sight, but Godknows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed in human eyes is loathsome in the sight of God.	15 Il leur dit: "Vous êtes, vous, ceux qui se donnent pour justes devant les hommes, mais Dieu connaîtvos coeurs; car ce qui est élevé pour les hommes est objet de dégoût devant Dieu.
16 'Up to the time of John it was the Law and the Prophets; from then onwards, the kingdom of God hasbeen preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it.	16 "Jusqu'à Jean ce furent la Loi et les Prophètes; depuis lors le Royaume de Dieu est annoncé, et touss'efforcent d'y entrer par violence.
17 'It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one little stroke to drop out of the Law.	17 "Il est plus facile que le ciel et la terre passent que ne tombe un seul menu trait de la Loi.
18 'Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery, and the man who marries awoman divorced by her husband commits adultery.	18 "Tout homme qui répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre commet un adultère, et celui qui épouseune femme répudiée par son mari commet un adultère.
19 'There was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and feast magnificently every day.	19 "Il y avait un homme riche qui se revêtait de pourpre et de lin fin et faisait chaque jour brillantechère.
20 And at his gate there used to lie a poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores,	20 Et un pauvre, nommé Lazare, gisait près de son portail, tout couvert d'ulcères.
21 who longed to fil himself with what fel from the rich man's table. Even dogs came and licked hissores.	21 Il aurait bien voulu se rassasier de ce qui tombait de la table du riche... Bien plus, les chiens eux-mêmes venaient lécher ses ulcères.
22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels into Abraham'sembrace. The rich man also died and was buried.	22 Or il advint que le pauvre mourut et fut emporté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham. Le riche aussimourut, et on l'ensevelit.
23 'In his torment in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off with Lazarus in his embrace.	23 "Dans l'Hadès, en proie à des tortures, il lève les yeux et voit de loin Abraham, et Lazare en son sein.
24 So he cried out, "Father Abraham, pity me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water andcool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames."	24 Alors il s'écria: Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi et envoie Lazare tremper dans l'eau le bout de sondoigt pour me rafraîchir la langue, car je suis tourmenté dans cette flamme.
25 Abraham said, "My son, remember that during your life you had your fill of good things, just asLazarus his fill of bad. Now he is being comforted here while you are in agony.	25 Mais Abraham dit: Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie, et Lazarepareillement ses maux; maintenant ici il est consolé, et toi, tu es tourmenté.
26 But that is not al : between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, to prevent those who want tocross from our side to yours or from your side to ours."	26 Ce n'est pas tout: entre nous et vous un grand abîme a été fixé, afin que ceux qui voudraient passerd'ici chez vous ne le puissent, et qu'on ne traverse pas non plus de là-bas chez nous.
27 'So he said, "Father, I beg you then to send Lazarus to my father's house,	27 "Il dit alors: Je te prie donc, père, d'envoyer Lazare dans la maison de mon père,
28 since I have five brothers, to give them warning so that they do not come to this place of torment too."	28 car j'ai cinq frères; qu'il leur porte son témoignage, de peur qu'ils ne viennent, eux aussi, dans ce lieude la torture.
29 Abraham said, "They have Moses and the prophets, let them listen to them."	29 Et Abraham de dire: Ils ont Moïse et les Prophètes; qu'ils les écoutent. --
30 The rich man replied, "Ah no, father Abraham, but if someone comes to them from the dead, they willrepent."	30 Non, père Abraham, dit-il, mais si quelqu'un de chez les morts va les trouver, ils se repentiront.
31 Then Abraham said to him, "If they wil not listen either to Moses or to the prophets, they wil not beconvinced even if someone should rise from the dead."	31 Mais il lui dit: Du moment qu'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les Prophètes, même si quelqu'un ressuscited'entre les morts, ils ne seront pas convaincus."
