Matthew 16

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to put him to the test they asked if he would show them asign from heaven.	1 Se acercaron los fariseos y saduceos y, para ponerle a prueba, le pidieron que les mostrase una señal del cielo.
2 He replied, 'In the evening you say, "It wil be fine; there's a red sky,"	2 Mas él les respondió: «Al atardecer decís: “Va a hacer buen tiempo, porque el cielo tiene un rojo de fuego”,
3 and in the morning, "Stormy weather today; the sky is red and overcast." You know how to read theface of the sky, but you cannot read the signs of the times.	3 y a la mañana: “Hoy habrá tormenta, porque el cielo tiene un rojo sombrío.” ¡Conque sabéis discernir el aspecto del cielo y no podéis discernir las señales de los tiempos!
4 It is an evil and unfaithful generation asking for a sign, and the only sign it wil be given is the sign ofJonah.' And he left them and went off.	4 ¡Generación malvada y adúltera! Una señal pide y no se le dará otra señal que la señal de Jonás». Y dejándolos, se fue.
5 The disciples, having crossed to the other side, had forgotten to take any food.	5 Los discípulos, al pasar a la otra orilla, se habían olvidado de tomar panes.
6 Jesus said to them, 'Keep your eyes open, and be on your guard against the yeast of the Phariseesand Sadducees.'	6 Jesús les dijo: «Abrid los ojos y guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos y saduceos».
7 And they said among themselves, 'It is because we have not brought any bread.'	7 Ellos hablaban entre sí diciendo: «Es que no hemos traído panes».
8 Jesus knew it, and he said, 'You have so little faith, why are you talking among yourselves abouthaving no bread?	8 Mas Jesús, dándose cuenta, dijo: «Hombres de poca fe, ¿por qué estáis hablando entre vosotros de que no tenéis panes?
9 Do you stil not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and thenumber of baskets you col ected?	9 ¿Aún no comprendéis, ni os acordáis de los cinco panes de los 5.000 hombres, y cuántos canastos recogisteis?
10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and the number of baskets you col ected?	10 ¿Ni de los siete panes de los 4.000, y cuántas espuertas recogisteis?
11 How could you fail to understand that I was not talking about bread? What I said was: Beware of theyeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.'	11 ¿Cómo no entendéis que no me refería a los panes? Guardaos, sí, de la levadura de los fariseos y saduceos».
12 Then they understood that he was tel ing them to be on their guard, not against yeast for makingbread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.	12 Entonces comprendieron que no había querido decir que se guardasen de la levadura de los panes, sino de la doctrina de los fariseos y saduceos.
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, 'Who dopeople say the Son of man is?'	13 Llegado Jesús a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, hizo esta pregunta a sus discípulos: «¿Quién dicen los hombres que es el Hijo del hombre?»
14 And they said, 'Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.'	14 Ellos dijeron: «Unos, que Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías, otros, que Jeremías o uno de los profetas».
15 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?'	15 Díceles él: «Y vosotros ¿quién decís que soy yo?»
16 Then Simon Peter spoke up and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'	16 Simón Pedro contestó: «Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios vivo».
17 Jesus replied, 'Simon son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was no human agency thatrevealed this to you but my Father in heaven.	17 Replicando Jesús le dijo: «Bienaventurado eres Simón, hijo de Jonás, porque no te ha revelado esto la carne ni la sangre, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos.
18 So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I wil build my community. And the gates of theunderworld can never overpower it.	18 Y yo a mi vez te digo que tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia, y las puertas del Hades no prevalecerán contra ella.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound inheaven; whatever you loose on earth wil be loosed in heaven.'	19 A ti te daré las llaves del Reino de los Cielos; y lo que ates en la tierra quedará atado en los cielos, y lo que desates en la tierra quedará desatado en los cielos».
20 Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to say to anyone that he was the Christ.	20 Entonces mandó a sus discípulos que no dijesen a nadie que él era el Cristo.
21 From then onwards Jesus began to make it clear to his disciples that he was destined to go toJerusalem and suffer grievously at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to deathand to be raised up on the third day.	21 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a manifestar a sus discípulos que él debía ir a Jerusalén y sufrir mucho de parte de los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, y ser matado y resucitar al tercer día.
22 Then, taking him aside, Peter started to rebuke him. 'Heaven preserve you, Lord,' he said, 'this mustnot happen to you.'	22 Tomándole aparte Pedro, se puso a reprenderle diciendo: «¡Lejos de ti, Señor! ¡De ningún modo te sucederá eso!»
23 But he turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, becauseyou are thinking not as God thinks but as human beings do.'	23 Pero él, volviéndose, dijo a Pedro: «¡Quítate de mi vista, Satanás! ¡Escándalo eres para mí, porque tus pensamientos no son los de Dios, sino los de los hombres!
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himselfand take up his cross and follow me.	24 Entonces dijo Jesús a sus discípulos: «Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz y sígame.
25 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.	25 Porque quien quiera salvar su vida, la perderá, pero quien pierda su vida por mí, la encontrará.
26 What, then, wil anyone gain by winning the whole world and forfeiting his life? Or what can anyoneoffer in exchange for his life?	26 Pues ¿de qué le servirá al hombre ganar el mundo entero, si arruina su vida? O ¿qué puede dar el hombre a cambio de su vida?
27 'For the Son of man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he wilreward each one according to his behaviour.	27 «Porque el Hijo del hombre ha de venir en la gloria de su Padre, con sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno según su conducta.
28 In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the Son ofman coming with his kingdom.'	28 Yo os aseguro: entre los aquí presentes hay algunos que no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean al Hijo del hombre venir en su Reino».
