1 'And now, priests, this commandment is for you.	1 Adesso per voi è quest' intimazione, o sacerdoti.
2 If you will not listen, if you will not sincerely resolve to glorify my name, says Yahweh Sabaoth, I shalcertainly lay a curse on you and I shal curse your blessing. Indeed I wil lay a curse, for none of you makes thisresolve.	2 Se voi non vorrete ascoltare, e se non vorrete mettervi in cuore di dar gloria al mio nome, dice il Signore de gli eserciti, io manderò a voi la miseria, e maledirò le vostre benedizioni; io le maledirò, perchè voi non mi avete dato retta.
3 Now, I am going to break your arm and throw offal in your faces -- the offal of your solemn feasts -- andsweep you away with it.	3 Ecco, che io getterò a voi la spalla (delle vittime,) e vi butterò in faccia lo sterco delle vostre solennità, e anderete sparsi com' esso.
4 Then you wil know that I sent this commandment to you, to affirm my intention to maintain my covenantwith Levi, says Yahweh Sabaoth.	4 E conoscerete, che io feci a voi quel comando, perchè fermo restasse il mio patto con Levi, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
5 My covenant was with him -- a covenant of life and peace, and these were what I gave him -- acovenant of respect, and he respected me and held my name in awe.	5 Il mio patto con lui fu di vita, e di pace, ed io gli diedi il mio timore, ed egli mi temè, e tremava al mio nome.
6 The law of truth was in his mouth and guilt was not found on his lips; he walked in peace and justicewith me and he converted many from sinning.	6 La legge della verità fu nella sua bocca, e sulle sue labbra non si posò la menzogna: camminò meco nella pace, e nell'equità, e molti ritrasse dal peccato.
7 The priest's lips ought to safeguard knowledge; his mouth is where the law should be sought, since heis Yahweh Sabaoth's messenger.	7 Perocché le labbra del sacerdote hanno il deposito della scienza, e dalla bocca di lui apparerassi la legge, per chè egli è l'Angelo del Signore degli eserciti.
8 But you yourselves have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to lapse by your teaching.Since you have destroyed the covenant of Levi, says Yahweh Sabaoth,	8 Ma voi siete usciti di strada, e a moltissimi foste di scandalo a violare la legge: annullaste il patto di Levi, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
9 so I in my turn have made you contemptible and vile to the whole people, for not having kept my waysand for being partial in applying the law.	9 Per questo siccome voi non avete seguitate le mie vie, e trattandosi della legge avete fatta accettazione di persone, io pure vi ho renduti spregevoli, e abbietti dinanzi a tutte le nazioni.
10 'Is there not one Father of us al ? Did not one God create us? Why, then, do we break faith with oneanother, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?	10 Non è egli uno solo il Padre di tutti noi? Non è egli un solo Dio quegli, che ci ha creati? perchè adunque ciascuno di noi disprezza il proprio fratello, violando il patto de padri nostri?
11 Judah has broken faith; a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah hasprofaned Yahweh's beloved sanctuary; he has married the daughter of an alien god.	11 Giuda prevaricò, l'abbominazione fu commessa in Israele, e in Gerusalemme, perchè Giuda contaminò la santità del Signore amata da lui, e sposò delle figlie di un dio straniero.
12 May Yahweh deprive such an offender of witness and advocate in the tents of Jacob among those whopresent offerings to Yahweh Sabaoth!	12 Il Signore sterminerà da' tabernacoli di Giacobbe colui, che avrà fatto tal cosa, e il discepolo, e il maestro, e colui, che offerisce doni, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
13 'And here is something else you do: you cover the altar of Yahweh with tears, with weeping andwailing, because he now refuses to consider the offering or to accept it from you.	13 E di più avete fatto anche questo; avete ripieno l'altare del Signore di lagrime, di pianti, e di muggiti, talmente che io non getto più lo sguardo a verun sagrifizio, e nissuna cosa riceverò dalle mani vostre, che possa placarmi.
14 And you ask, "Why?" Because Yahweh stands as witness between you and the wife of your youth,with whom you have broken faith, even though she was your partner and your wife by covenant.	14 Ma voi dite: E per qual motivo? perchè il Signore fu testimone tra te, e la moglie presa da te nella prima età, la quale tu dispregiasti, ed ella era tua compagna, e tua sposa, mediante il tuo patto.
15 Did he not create a single being, having flesh and the breath of life? And what does this single being seek? God -- given offspring! Have respect for your own life then, and do not break faith with the wife of youryouth.	15 Non la fece forse quell'uno? E non è ella porzione del suo spirito? E quell'uno, che vuol egli mai, se non una figliuolanza di Dio? Custodite adunque il vostro spirito, e non dispregiate le mogli della vostra prima età.
16 For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, God of Israel, and people concealing their cruelty under a cloak, saysYahweh Sabaoth. Have respect for your own life then, and do not break faith.	16 Quando tu l'abbi in odio, rimandala, dice il Signore Dio d'Israele, ma l'iniquità cuoprirà il tuo vestimento, dice il Signore degli eserciti. Conservate il vostro spirito, e non vogliate disprezzarle.
17 'You have wearied Yahweh with your talk. You ask, "How have we wearied him?" When you say, "Anyevil-doer is good as far as Yahweh is concerned; indeed he is delighted with them"; or when you say, "Where isthe God of fair judgement now?"	17 Voi avete recato affanno al Signore co' vostri discorsi. Ma voi dite a che gli abbiam noi recato affanno? In questo che voi andate dicendo: Chiunque mal fa, egli è buono negli occhi del Signore, e costoro a lui sono accetti; o almeno, quel Dio, che fa giudizio, dov'è?
