¹ In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah on the fourth day ofthe ninth month, the month of Chislev.	¹ La quatrième année du roi Darius, la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Zacharie, le quatrième jour du neuvième mois, qui est celui de Casleu.
² Bethel sent Sharezer with a deputation to entreat Yahweh's favour	² Sarasar, Rogommélech, et ceux qui étaient avec lui, envoyèrent à la maison de Dieu pour présenter leurs prières devant le (implorer la face du) Seigneur,
³ and to ask the priests in the Temple of Yahweh Sabaoth and the prophets, 'Ought I to go on mourningand fasting in the fifth month as I have been doing for so many years past?'	³ et pour dire aux prêtres de la maison du Seigneur des armées et aux prophètes: Faut-il que je pleure au cinquième mois, et que je me sanctifie, comme je l'ai déjà fait pendant beaucoup d'années?
⁴ Then the word of Yahweh Sabaoth was addressed to me as fol ows,	⁴ Et la parole du Seigneur des armées me fut adressée en ces termes:
⁵ 'Say to al the people of the country and to the priests, "While you have been fasting and mourning inthe fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, have you real y been fasting for my sake?	⁵ Parle à tout le peuple du pays et aux prêtres, et dis-leur : Lorsque vous avez jeûné et pleuré au cinquième et au septième mois, pendant ces soixante-dix ans, est-ce pour moi que vous avez jeûné ?
⁶ And when you were eating and drinking, were you not eating and drinking for your own sake?	⁶ Et lorsque vous avez mangé et bu, n'est-ce pas pour vous que vous avez mangé, et pour vous que vous avez bu ?
⁷ Do you not know the words which Yahweh proclaimed through the prophets in the past, whenJerusalem was inhabited and secure, as were her surrounding towns, and when the Negeb and the lowlandswere inhabited?" ' (	⁷ N'est-ce pas là ce que le Seigneur a dit par l'intermédiaire (entremise) des anciens prophètes, lorsque Jérusalem était encore habitée, et qu'elle était riche, elle et les villes d'alentour, et que le midi et la plaine étaient habités ?
⁸ The word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah as fol ows,	⁸ La parole du Seigneur (des armées) fut adressé à Zacharie, en ces termes :
⁹ 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this.) He said, "Apply the law fairly, and show faithful love and compassion towards one another.	⁹ Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Jugez selon la vérité, et exercez la miséricorde et la charité, chacun envers son frère.
¹⁰ Do not oppress the widow and the orphan, the foreigner and the poor, and do not secretly plan evilagainst one another."	¹⁰ N'opprimez ni la veuve, ni l'orphelin, ni l'étranger, ni le pauvre ; et que nul ne forme dans son cœur de mauvais desseins contre son frère.
¹¹ But they would not listen; they turned a rebel ious shoulder; they stopped their ears rather than hear;	¹¹ Mais ils (vos pères) n'ont pas voulu être attentifs (à ma voix), ils se sont retirés en me tournant le dos, et ils ont endurci leurs oreilles pour ne pas entendre.
¹² they made their hearts adamant rather than listen to the teaching and the words that Yahweh Sabaothhad sent -- by his spirit -- through the prophets in the past; and consequently the fury of Yahweh Sabaothovertook them.	¹² Ils ont rendu leur cœur dur comme le diamant, pour ne pas écouter la loi et les paroles que le Seigneur des armées leur adressait dans son esprit, par l'intermédiaire (l'entremise) des anciens prophètes ; et le Seigneur des armées en a conçu une grande indignation.
¹³ And so, since when he cal ed they would not listen, "I would not listen when they called", says YahwehSabaoth,	¹³ Et il est arrivé que, lorsqu'il parlait, ils n'ont pas écouté ; aussi, quand ils crieront, je n'écouterai pas, dit le Seigneur des armées.
¹⁴ "but scattered them among al the nations unknown to them. Hence, after they had gone, the countrywas deserted, and no one came or went. They had turned a land of delights into a desert." '	¹⁴ Je les ai dispersés à travers tous les royaumes qu'ils ne connaissaient pas, et le pays a été désolé à cause d'eux ; il n'y a(vait) plus ni allant ni venant, et ils ont changé en un désert la (une) terre de délices.
