NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 O Senhor disse a Moisés:
2 'Exact the ful vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites. Afterwards you will be gathered to yourpeople.'	2 "Vinga os filhos de Israel do mal que lhes fizeram os madianitas; depois disso serás reunido aos teus."
3 Moses said to the people, 'Some of you are to take up arms for Yahweh's campaign against Midian,to carry out the vengeance of Yahweh on Midian.	3 Moisés disse então ao povo: "Armem-se para a guerra alguns homens dentre vós: eles atacarão Madiã, para executarem sobre ele a vingança do Senhor.
4 You will put a thousand men in the field from each of the tribes of Israel.'	4 Poreis em linha de combate mil homens de cada uma das tribos de Israel."
5 In this way Israel's thousands provided twelve thousand men equipped for war, one thousand fromeach tribe:	5 Reuniram-se, pois, dentre as famílias de Israel, mil homens por tribo, ou seja, doze mil homens de pé, prontos para o combate.
6 Moses put them in the field, one thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of the priest Eleazar,to go with them carrying the sacred objects and the trumpets for the battle cry.	6 Moisés enviou-os ao combate; mil homens de cada tribo, com Finéias, filho do sacerdote Eleazar, que levou também os objetos sagrados e as trombetas para tocar.
7 They made war on Midian, as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and put every male to death.	7 Atacaram os madianitas, como o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés, e mataram todos os varões.
8 What is more, they kil ed the kings of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the five Midianite kings;they also put Balaam son of Beor to the sword.	8 Mataram também os reis de Madiã: Evi, Recém, Sur, Hur e Rebe, cinco reis de Madiã, e passaram ao fio da espada Balaão, filho de Beor.
9 The Israelites took the Midianite women and their little ones captive and carried off al their cattle, altheir flocks and al their goods as booty.	9 Levaram prisioneiras as mulheres dos madianitas com seus filhos, e pilharam todo o seu gado, seus rebanhos e todos os seus bens.
10 They set fire to the towns where they lived and to al their encampments.	10 Incendiaram todas as cidades que habitavam e todos os seus acampamentos.
11 Then, taking al their booty, everything they had captured, human and animal,	11 Levaram consigo todo o espólio e todos os despojos, animais e pessoas,
12 they brought the captives, spoil and booty to Moses, the priest Eleazar and the whole community ofIsraelites at the camp on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho.	12 e conduziram-nos a Moisés, ao sacerdote Eleazar e à assembléia dos israelitas no acampamento que se encontrava nas planícies de Moab, perto do Jordão, em face de Jericó.
13 Moses, the priest Eleazar and al the leaders of the community went out of the camp to meet them.	13 Moisés, o sacerdote Eleazar e todos os chefes da assembléia saíram-lhes ao encontro fora do acampamento.
14 Moses was enraged with the officers of the army, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, who had come back from this military expedition.	14 E Moisés, irado contra os generais do exército, os chefes de milhares e os chefes de centenas que voltavam da batalha, disse-lhes:
15 He said, 'Why have you spared the life of al the women?	15 "O que é isso? Deixastes com vida todas essas mulheres?
16 They were the very ones who, on Balaam's advice, caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to Yahwehin the affair at Peor: hence the plague which struck Yahweh's community.	16 Mas são justamente elas que, instigadas por Balaão, levaram os israelitas a serem infiéis ao Senhor na questão de Fogor, a qual foi também a causa do flagelo que feriu a assembléia do Senhor!
17 So kil al the male children and kil al the women who have ever slept with a man;	17 Ide! Matai todos os filhos varões e todas as mulheres que tiverem tido comércio com um homem;
18 but spare the lives of the young girls who have never slept with a man, and keep them foryourselves.	18 mas deixai vivas todas as jovens que não o fizeram.
19 As for you, bivouac outside the camp for seven days, everyone who has kil ed anyone or touched acorpse. Purify yourselves and your prisoners on the third and seventh days,	19 E vós, acampai durante sete dias fora do acampamento. Todos os que tiverem matado um homem ou tocado em um morto, purificar-se-ão ao terceiro e ao sétimo dia, eles e seus prisioneiros.
20 and purify al clothing, everything made of skin, everything woven of goat's hair and everythingmade of wood.'	20 Purificai também toda veste, todo objeto de pele, todo tecido de pêlo de cabra e todo utensílio de madeira."
21 The priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had come back from the campaign, 'This is an article ofthe Law which Yahweh prescribed to Moses:	21 O sacerdote Eleazar disse então aos guerreiros que tinham combatido: "Eis o preceito da lei que o Senhor impôs a Moisés:
22 although gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,	22 o ouro, a prata, o bronze, o ferro, o estanho, o chumbo, tudo o que pode passar pelas chamas
23 everything that can withstand fire can be cleaned by being passed through fire, it must stil bepurified with water for purification. Whatever cannot resist fire you must pass through water.	23 será purificado no fogo; mas será também purificado pela água lustral. Tudo o que não suporta o fogo será purificado com a água.
24 'Wash your clothes on the seventh day and you wil then be clean. You may then re-enter the camp.'	24 Lavareis vossas vestes no sétimo dia, para serdes puros; depois disso, voltareis ao acampamento."
25 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	25 O Senhor disse a Moisés:
26 'With the priest Eleazar and the heads of families in the community, take a count of the spoils andcaptives, human and animal.	26 "Fazei o inventário de todo o espólio que foi tomado, homens e animais, tu, o sacerdote Eleazar e os chefes de família da assembléia.
27 You wil then share out the spoil, half and half, between those who fought the campaign and the restof the community.	27 Repartirás em seguida a presa em partes iguais entre os que pelejaram, e entre todo o resto da assembléia.
28 From the share of the combatants who took part in the campaign, you wil set aside one out of everyfive hundred persons, oxen, donkeys and sheep as Yahweh's portion.	28 Da parte daqueles que pelejaram e foram à guerra, separarás um tributo para o Senhor, um de cada quinhentos homens, gado, jumentos ou ovelhas.
29 You wil take this from the half share coming to them and give it to the priest Eleazar as the portionset aside for Yahweh.	29 Toma-o da sua metade para entregar ao sacerdote Eleazar, como oferta ao Senhor.
30 From the half coming to the Israelites, you will take one out of every fifty persons, oxen, donkeys,sheep, and al other animals, and give them to the Levites who are responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing.'	30 Da metade que toca aos israelitas, tomarás um de cada cinqüenta, homens, bois, jumentos, ovelhas e qualquer outro animal, e darás aos levitas, que têm a guarda da casa do Senhor."
31 Moses and the priest Eleazar did as Yahweh had ordered Moses.	31 Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar fizeram como o Senhor tinha ordenado.
32 The spoils, the remainder of the booty captured by the soldiers, came to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep and goats,	32 Os despojos, o conjunto do espólio que tinha feito o exército era de seiscentos e setenta e cinco mil ovelhas,
33 seventy-two thousand head of cattle,	33 setenta e dois mil bois
34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,	34 e sessenta e um mil jumentos.
35 and in persons, women who had never slept with a man, thirty-two thousand in al .	35 Havia também trinta e duas mil jovens que não tinham coabitado com homem algum.
36 Half was assigned to those who had taken part in the war, namely three hundred and thirty-seventhousand five hundred sheep and goats,	36 Foi dada a metade àqueles que tinham ido ao combate, isto é, trezentas e trinta e sete mil e quinhentas ovelhas,
37 of which Yahweh's portion was six hundred and seventy-five,	37 das quais seiscentas e setenta e cinco para o tributo do Senhor;
38 thirty-six thousand head of cattle, of which Yahweh's portion was seventy-two,	38 trinta e seis mil bois, dos quais setenta e dois para o tributo do Senhor;
39 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, of which Yahweh's portion was sixty-one,	39 trinta mil e quinhentos jumentos, dos quais sessenta e um para o tributo do Senhor;
40 and sixteen thousand persons, of which Yahweh's portion was thirty-two.	40 dezesseis mil pessoas, das quais trinta e duas para o tributo do Senhor.
41 Moses gave the priest Eleazar the portion set aside for Yahweh, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.	41 Moisés entregou ao sacerdote Eleazar o tributo tomado para o Senhor, como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado.
42 As for the half coming to the Israelites which Moses had separated from that of the combatants,	42 Restava a metade destinada aos filhos de Israel, que Moisés havia separado da dos guerreiros.
43 this half, the community's share, came to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundredsheep and goats,	43 Esta parte da assembléia compreendia trezentas e trinta e sete mil e quinhentas ovelhas,
44 thirty-six thousand head of cattle,	44 trinta e seis mil bois,
45 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys	45 trinta mil e quinhentos jumentos
46 and sixteen thousand persons.	46 e dezesseis mil pessoas.
47 From this half, the Israelites' share, Moses took one out of every fifty, human and animal, and gavethem to the Levites who were responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.	47 Dessa metade dos israelitas Moisés tomou um de cada cinqüenta, homens e animais, e deu-os aos levitas, encarregados do serviço da casa do Senhor, assim como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado.
48 The officers of the thousands who had fought the campaign, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, came to Moses	48 Os comandantes das tropas do exército, os chefes de milhares e de centenas
49 and said, 'Your servants have numbered the soldiers under their command: none of our men ismissing.	49 aproximaram-se então de Moisés e disseram-lhe: "Teus servos fizeram a conta dos guerreiros que estiveram sob o nosso comando: não falta nem um sequer.
50 So, as an offering for Yahweh, we have brought what each of us has found in the way of goldornaments, armlets and bracelets, rings, earrings and breastplates, to make expiation for ourselves beforeYahweh.'	50 Trazemos, pois, como oferta ao Senhor, tudo o que cada um encontrou de objetos de ouro: correntinhas, braceletes, anéis, brincos e colares, para que se faça expiação por nós diante do Senhor."
51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, al this jewel ery.	51 Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar receberam deles esse ouro, toda a sorte de objetos artisticamente trabalhados.
52 This portion of gold given to Yahweh by the commanders of the thousands and commanders of thehundreds amounted to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.	52 O peso total do ouro, que foi assim separado e oferecido ao Senhor da parte dos chefes de milhares e de centenas, era de dezesseis mil setecentos e cinqüenta siclos.
53 Each of the soldiers took his own booty.	53 Os homens da tropa haviam pilhado cada um para si.
54 But Moses and the priest Eleazar, having accepted the gold from the commanders of the thousandsand commanders of the hundreds, brought it into the Tent of Meeting, to be a reminder of the Israelites beforeYahweh.	54 Moisés e o sacerdote Eleazar, tendo recebido o ouro das mãos dos chefes de milhares e de centenas, levaram-no à tenda de reunião para que servisse de memorial diante do Senhor pelos israelitas.
