NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:
2 'Exact the ful vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites. Afterwards you will be gathered to yourpeople.'	2 «Haz que los israelitas tomen venganza de los madianitas. Luego irás a reunirte con tu parentela.»
3 Moses said to the people, 'Some of you are to take up arms for Yahweh's campaign against Midian,to carry out the vengeance of Yahweh on Midian.	3 Moisés habló al pueblo y le dijo: «Que se armen algunos de vosotros para la guerra de Yahveh contra Madián, para tomar de Madián la venganza de Yahveh.
4 You will put a thousand men in the field from each of the tribes of Israel.'	4 Pondréis sobre las armas mil de cada tribu, de todas las tribus de Israel.»
5 In this way Israel's thousands provided twelve thousand men equipped for war, one thousand fromeach tribe:	5 Los millares de Israel suministraron, a razón de mil por cada tribu, 12.000 hombres armados para la guerra.
6 Moses put them in the field, one thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of the priest Eleazar,to go with them carrying the sacred objects and the trumpets for the battle cry.	6 Moisés envió al combate mil por cada tribu, y con ellos a Pinjás, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, que llevaba en su mano los objetos sagrados y las trompetas del clamoreo.
7 They made war on Midian, as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and put every male to death.	7 Atacaron a Madián como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés y mataron a todos los varones.
8 What is more, they kil ed the kings of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the five Midianite kings;they also put Balaam son of Beor to the sword.	8 Mataron también a los reyes de Madián: Eví, Réquem, Sur, Jur y Rebá, cinco reyes madianitas; y a Balaam, hijo de Beor, lo mataron a filo de espada.
9 The Israelites took the Midianite women and their little ones captive and carried off al their cattle, altheir flocks and al their goods as booty.	9 Los israelitas hicieron cautivas a las mujeres de Madián y a sus niños y saquearon su ganado, sus rebaños, y todos sus bienes.
10 They set fire to the towns where they lived and to al their encampments.	10 Dieron fuego a todas las ciudades en que habitaban y a todos sus campamentos.
11 Then, taking al their booty, everything they had captured, human and animal,	11 Reunieron todo el botín que habían capturado, hombres y bestias,
12 they brought the captives, spoil and booty to Moses, the priest Eleazar and the whole community ofIsraelites at the camp on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho.	12 y llevaron los cautivos, la presa y el botín ante Moisés, ante el sacerdote Eleazar y ante toda la comunidad de los israelitas, al campamento, en las Estepas de Moab, que están cerca del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.
13 Moses, the priest Eleazar and al the leaders of the community went out of the camp to meet them.	13 Moisés, el sacerdote Eleazar y todos los principales de la comunidad salieron a su encuentro hasta fuera del campamento.
14 Moses was enraged with the officers of the army, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, who had come back from this military expedition.	14 Moisés se encolerizó contra los jefes de las tropas, jefes de millar y jefes de cien, que volvían de la expedición guerrera.
15 He said, 'Why have you spared the life of al the women?	15 Les dijo Moisés: «¿Pero habéis dejado con vida a todas las mujeres?
16 They were the very ones who, on Balaam's advice, caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to Yahwehin the affair at Peor: hence the plague which struck Yahweh's community.	16 Precisamente ellas fueron las que indujeron a prevaricar contra Yahveh a los israelitas, siguiendo el consejo de Balaam, cuando lo de Peor; por eso azotó la plaga a la comunidad de Yahveh.
17 So kil al the male children and kil al the women who have ever slept with a man;	17 Matad, pues, a todos los niños varones. Y a toda mujer que haya conocido varón, que haya dormido con varón, matadla también.
18 but spare the lives of the young girls who have never slept with a man, and keep them foryourselves.	18 Pero dejad con vida para vosotros a todas las muchachas que no hayan dormido con varón.
19 As for you, bivouac outside the camp for seven days, everyone who has kil ed anyone or touched acorpse. Purify yourselves and your prisoners on the third and seventh days,	19 Y vosotros, todos los que hayáis matado a alguno y todos los que hayáis tocado a algún muerto, acampad fuera del campamento siete días. Purificaos vosotros y vuestros cautivos, el día tercero y el día séptimo.
20 and purify al clothing, everything made of skin, everything woven of goat's hair and everythingmade of wood.'	20 Purificad también todos los vestidos, todos los objetos de cuero, todo tejido de pelo de cabra y todo objeto de madera.»
21 The priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had come back from the campaign, 'This is an article ofthe Law which Yahweh prescribed to Moses:	21 Dijo el sacerdote Eleazar a los hombres de la tropa que habían ido a la guerra: «Este es el precepto de la Ley que ordenó Yahveh a Moisés.
22 although gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,	22 El oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo,
23 everything that can withstand fire can be cleaned by being passed through fire, it must stil bepurified with water for purification. Whatever cannot resist fire you must pass through water.	23 todo lo que puede pasar por el fuego, lo pasaréis por el fuego y quedará puro. Pero será purificado con las aguas lustrales. Pero todo lo que no pueda pasar por el fuego lo pasaréis por las aguas.»
24 'Wash your clothes on the seventh day and you wil then be clean. You may then re-enter the camp.'	24 Lavaréis vuestros vestidos el día séptimo y quedaréis puros. Luego podréis entrar en el campamento.
25 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	25 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:
26 'With the priest Eleazar and the heads of families in the community, take a count of the spoils andcaptives, human and animal.	26 «Sacad la cuenta, tú, el sacerdote Eleazar y los principales de las familias de la comunidad, del botín y de los cautivos, hombres y bestias.
27 You wil then share out the spoil, half and half, between those who fought the campaign and the restof the community.	27 Luego repartirás el botín, la mitad para los combatientes que fueron a la guerra y la otra mitad para toda la comunidad.
28 From the share of the combatants who took part in the campaign, you wil set aside one out of everyfive hundred persons, oxen, donkeys and sheep as Yahweh's portion.	28 Reservarás para Yahveh, de la parte de los combatientes que fueron a la guerra, uno por cada quinientos, sean hombres, bueyes, asnos u ovejas.
29 You wil take this from the half share coming to them and give it to the priest Eleazar as the portionset aside for Yahweh.	29 Lo tomarás de la mitad que les corresponde y se lo darás al sacerdote Eleazar, como reserva para Yahveh.
30 From the half coming to the Israelites, you will take one out of every fifty persons, oxen, donkeys,sheep, and al other animals, and give them to the Levites who are responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing.'	30 Y de la mitad de los israelitas, uno por cada cincuenta, sean hombres, bueyes, asnos u ovejas, cualquier clase de bestias, y se lo darás a los levitas, que están encargados del ministerio de la Morada de Yahveh.
31 Moses and the priest Eleazar did as Yahweh had ordered Moses.	31 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés.
32 The spoils, the remainder of the booty captured by the soldiers, came to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep and goats,	32 Fue el botín, el remanente de lo que la gente de guerra había saqueado: 675.000 cabezas de ganado lanar,
33 seventy-two thousand head of cattle,	33 72.000 de vacuno
34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,	34 y 61.000 de ganado asnal.
35 and in persons, women who had never slept with a man, thirty-two thousand in al .	35 En cuanto a las personas, las mujeres que no habían dormido con varón eran, en total, 32.000.
36 Half was assigned to those who had taken part in the war, namely three hundred and thirty-seventhousand five hundred sheep and goats,	36 La mitad correspondiente a los que fueron al combate: 337.500 cabezas de ganado lanar,
37 of which Yahweh's portion was six hundred and seventy-five,	37 siendo la parte de Yahveh de ganado lanar, 675 cabezas;
38 thirty-six thousand head of cattle, of which Yahweh's portion was seventy-two,	38 36.000 de vacuno, siendo la parte de Yahveh 72,
39 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, of which Yahweh's portion was sixty-one,	39 30.500 de asnal, siendo la parte de Yahveh 61.
40 and sixteen thousand persons, of which Yahweh's portion was thirty-two.	40 Las personas eran 16.000, correspondiendo a Yahveh, 32.
41 Moses gave the priest Eleazar the portion set aside for Yahweh, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.	41 Moisés dio al sacerdote Eleazar la reserva de Yahveh, como había ordenado Yahveh a Moisés.
42 As for the half coming to the Israelites which Moses had separated from that of the combatants,	42 La mitad perteneciente a los israelitas, que había separado Moisés de la de los combatientes,
43 this half, the community's share, came to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundredsheep and goats,	43 esta mitad correspondiente a la comunidad era de 337.500 cabezas de ganado lanar;
44 thirty-six thousand head of cattle,	44 36.000 de vacuno;
45 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys	45 30.500 de asnal,
46 and sixteen thousand persons.	46 y 16.000 personas.
47 From this half, the Israelites' share, Moses took one out of every fifty, human and animal, and gavethem to the Levites who were responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.	47 Tomó Moisés de la mitad de los israelitas, a razón de uno por cincuenta, hombres y bestias, y se los dio a los levitas, que se encargan del ministerio de la Morada de Yahveh, como había ordenado Yahveh a Moisés.
48 The officers of the thousands who had fought the campaign, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, came to Moses	48 Se presentaron ante Moisés los jefes de las tropas de Israel que habían ido a la guerra, jefes de millar y jefes de cien,
49 and said, 'Your servants have numbered the soldiers under their command: none of our men ismissing.	49 y dijeron a Moisés: «Tus siervos han sacado la cuenta de los combatientes que tenían a sus órdenes, y no falta ni uno.
50 So, as an offering for Yahweh, we have brought what each of us has found in the way of goldornaments, armlets and bracelets, rings, earrings and breastplates, to make expiation for ourselves beforeYahweh.'	50 Por eso traemos de ofrenda a Yahveh lo que cada uno de nosotros ha encontrado en objetos de oro, brazaletes, ajorcas, anillos, arracadas y collares, para hacer expiación por nosotros delante de Yahveh.»
51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, al this jewel ery.	51 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron de ellos el oro y las joyas.
52 This portion of gold given to Yahweh by the commanders of the thousands and commanders of thehundreds amounted to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.	52 El total del oro de la reserva que reservaron para Yahveh, de parte de los jefes de millar y de cien, fue 16.750 siclos.
53 Each of the soldiers took his own booty.	53 Los combatientes habían tomado cada uno su botín.
54 But Moses and the priest Eleazar, having accepted the gold from the commanders of the thousandsand commanders of the hundreds, brought it into the Tent of Meeting, to be a reminder of the Israelites beforeYahweh.	54 Pero Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de los jefes de millar y de cien y lo llevaron a la Tienda del Encuentro, para que sirviera ante Yahveh de memorial en favor de los israelitas.
