Amos 8

1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: A basket of ripe fruit.	1 Poi il Signore Dio mi fece vedere questa cosa: ed ecco un uncino da cogliere i frutti,
2 'What do you see, Amos?' he asked. 'A basket of ripe fruit,' I said. Then Yahweh said, 'The time is ripefor my people Israel; I wil not continue to overlook their offences.	2 e disse: « Che vedi, Amos? » Risposi: « Un uncino da cogliere i frutti ». E il Signore mi disse: « E' venuta la fine per il mio popolo d'Israele, e non gliene passerò più per l'avvenire,
3 That day, the palace songs will turn to howls, -declares the Lord Yahweh- the corpses wil be manythat are thrown down everywhere. Keep silent!'	3 In quel giorno strideranno i cardini del tempio — dice il Signore Dio, — vi saran molti morti, e in ogni luogo regnerà il silenzio.
4 Listen to this, you who crush the needy and reduce the oppressed to nothing,	4 State a sentire questo, voi che schiacciate il povero, e fate sparire i poveri dalla terra,
5 you who say, 'When wil New Moon be over so that we can sel our corn, and Sabbath, so that we canmarket our wheat? Then, we can make the bushel-measure smaller and the shekel-weight bigger, byfraudulently tampering with the scales.	5 e dite: « Quando passerà il mese, per vendere le merci, il sabato per aprire i magazzini del grano, facendo diminuire la misura e crescere il siclo, e sostituendo delle false bilance,
6 We can buy up the weak for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals, and even get a price for thesweepings of the wheat.'	6 per aver l'argento dei miserabili, e i poveri per un paio di scarpe, per vendere le vagliature del grano? »
7 Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, 'Never wil I forget anything they have done.'	7 Il Signore l'ha giurato contro l'orgoglio di Giacobbe: « Non mi dimenticherò per sempre di tutte le loro azioni ».
8 Wil not the earth tremble for this and al who live on it lament, as it al rises together like the Nile inEgypt, it swel s and then subsides like the Egyptian Nile?	8 E dopo tali cose non tremerà la terra, non saranno in duolo tutti i suoi abitanti, non andranno tutti di fuori come un fiume, non saran cacciati e spariranno come il fiume d'Egitto ?
9 'On that Day- declares the Lord Yahweh- I shal make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth inbroad daylight.	9 E avverrà in quel giorno — dice il Signore Dio — che il sole tramonterà nel meriggio, e in pieno giorno avvolgerò nelle tenebre la terra.
10 I shall turn your festivals into mourning and all your singing into lamentation; I shall make you all wearsacking round your waists and have al your heads shaved. I shal make it like the mourning for an only child,and it wil end like the bitterest of days.	10 E cangerò in lutto le vostre solennità, e in pianto tutti i vostri cantici, e metterò su tutti i vostri dorsi il sacco, e renderò calve tutte le teste, e farò che (il paese) sia in lutto come per la morte dell'unigenito, e che il suo fine sia come giorno d'amarezza.
11 'The days are coming- declares the Lord Yahweh- when I shal send a famine on the country, nothunger for food, not thirst for water, but famine for hearing Yahweh's word.	11 Ecco che vien il tempo — dice il Signore — ed io manderò sulla terra la fame, non fame di pane, non sete di acqua, ma di ascoltare la parola del Signore,
12 People wil stagger from sea to sea, will wander from the north to the east, searching for Yahweh'sword, but wil not find it.	12 e saranno in agitazione da un mare all'altro, da settentrione ad oriente, andranno da ogni parte per ascoltare la parola del Signore, ma non la troveranno.
13 'That Day, fine girls and stalwart youths will faint from thirst.	13 In quel giorno verranno meno le belle vergini e i giovanotti dalla sete.
14 The people who swear by the Sin of Samaria, who say, "Long live your god, Dan!" and "Hurrah for thepilgrimage to Beersheba!" will all fal , never to rise again.'	14 Coloro che giurano pel peccato di Samaria, e dicono: « Viva il tuo Dio, o Dan, viva la via di Bersabea » cadranno senza potersi più rialzare.
