Amos 8

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: A basket of ripe fruit.	1 Haec ostendit mihi Dominus Deus: et ecce canistrum pomorum.
2 'What do you see, Amos?' he asked. 'A basket of ripe fruit,' I said. Then Yahweh said, 'The time is ripefor my people Israel; I wil not continue to overlook their offences.	2 Et dixit: “ Quid tu vides, Amos? ”. Et dixi: “ Canistrum pomorum ”. Et dixit Dominus ad me: “ Venit finis super populum meum Israel; non adiciam ultra ignoscere ei.
3 That day, the palace songs will turn to howls, -declares the Lord Yahweh- the corpses wil be manythat are thrown down everywhere. Keep silent!'	3 Et lugent cantatrices palatii in die illa, dicit Dominus Deus; multa erunt cadavera, in omni loco proicientur: silentium.
4 Listen to this, you who crush the needy and reduce the oppressed to nothing,	4 Audite hoc, qui conteritis pauperem et deficere facitis egenos terrae,
5 you who say, 'When wil New Moon be over so that we can sel our corn, and Sabbath, so that we canmarket our wheat? Then, we can make the bushel-measure smaller and the shekel-weight bigger, byfraudulently tampering with the scales.	5 dicentes: “Quando transibit neomenia, et venumdabimus merces? Et sabbatum, et aperiemus frumentum, ut imminuamus mensuram et augeamus siclum et supponamus stateras dolosas,
6 We can buy up the weak for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals, and even get a price for thesweepings of the wheat.'	6 ut possideamus in argento egenos et pauperem pro calceamentis et quisquilias frumenti vendamus?””.
7 Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, 'Never wil I forget anything they have done.'	7 Iuravit Dominus in superbia Iacob: “ Non obliviscar in perpetuum omnia opera eorum.
8 Wil not the earth tremble for this and al who live on it lament, as it al rises together like the Nile inEgypt, it swel s and then subsides like the Egyptian Nile?	8 Numquid super isto non commovebitur terra, et lugebit omnis habitator eius, et ascendet quasi fluvius universa, fervebit et decrescet quasi flumen Aegypti?
9 'On that Day- declares the Lord Yahweh- I shal make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth inbroad daylight.	9 Et erit: in die illa, dicit Dominus Deus, occidere faciam solem in meridie et tenebrescere faciam terram in die luminis
10 I shall turn your festivals into mourning and all your singing into lamentation; I shall make you all wearsacking round your waists and have al your heads shaved. I shal make it like the mourning for an only child,and it wil end like the bitterest of days.	10 et convertam festivitates vestras in luctum et omnia cantica vestra in planctum; et inducam super omnes lumbos saccum et super omne caput calvitium; et ponam eam quasi luctum unigeniti et novissima eius quasi diem amarum.
11 'The days are coming- declares the Lord Yahweh- when I shal send a famine on the country, nothunger for food, not thirst for water, but famine for hearing Yahweh's word.	11 Ecce dies veniunt, dicit Dominus, et mittam famem in terram; non famem panis neque sitim aquae, sed audiendi verbum Domini ”.
12 People wil stagger from sea to sea, will wander from the north to the east, searching for Yahweh'sword, but wil not find it.	12 Et fugient a mari usque ad mare; et ab aquilone usque ad orientem circuibunt, quaerentes verbum Domini, et non invenient.
13 'That Day, fine girls and stalwart youths will faint from thirst.	13 In die illa deficient virgines pulchrae et adulescentes in siti.
14 The people who swear by the Sin of Samaria, who say, "Long live your god, Dan!" and "Hurrah for thepilgrimage to Beersheba!" will all fal , never to rise again.'	14 Qui iurant in delicto Samariae et dicunt: “ Vivit Deus tuus, Dan! ” et “ Vivit via, Bersabee! ”, et cadent et non resurgent ultra.
