Amos 1

1 Words of Amos one of the shepherds of Tekoa. The visions he had about Israel, in the time of Uzziahking of Judah and Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.	1 The words of Amos, a shepherd from Tekoa, which he received in vision concerning Israel, in the days of Uzziah, king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake:
2 He said: Yahweh roars from Zion, and makes himself heard from Jerusalem; the shepherds' pasturesmourn, and the crown of Carmel dries up.	2 The LORD will roar from Zion, and from Jerusalem raise his voice: The pastures of the shepherds will languish, and the summit of Carmel wither.
3 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Damascus, I have made my decree and wilnot relent: because they have threshed Gilead with iron threshing-sledges,	3 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because they threshed Gilead with sledges of iron,
4 I shal send fire down on the House of Hazael to devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad;	4 I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, to devour the castles of Ben-hadad.
5 I shal break the gate-bar of Damascus, I shal destroy the inhabitant of Bikath-Aven, the holder of thesceptre in Beth-Eden, and the people of Aram wil be deported to Kir, Yahweh says.	5 I will break the bar of Damascus; I will root out those who live in the Valley of Aven, And the sceptered ruler of Beth-eden; the people of Aram shall be exiled to Kir, says the LORD.
6 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Gaza, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because they have deported entire nations as slaves to Edom,	6 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because they took captive whole groups to hand over to Edom,
7 I shal send fire down on the walls of Gaza to devour its palaces;	7 I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza, to devour her castles;
8 I shal destroy the inhabitant of Ashdod, the holder of the sceptre in Ashkelon; I shal turn my handagainst Ekron and the remnant of the Philistines wil perish, says the Lord Yahweh.	8 I will root out those who live in Ashdod, and the sceptered ruler of Ashkelon; I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the last of the Philistines shall perish, says the Lord God.
9 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Tyre, I have made my decree and will notrelent: because they have handed hosts of captives over to Edom, heedless of a covenant of brotherhood,	9 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Tyre, and for four I will not revoke my word; Because they delivered whole groups captive to Edom, and did not remember the pact of brotherhood,
10 I shall send fire down on the wal s of Tyre to devour its palaces.	10 I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre,to devour her castles.
11 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Edom, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because he has pursued his brother with the sword, because he has stifled any sense of pity, andperpetual y nursed his anger and constantly cherished his rage,	11 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because he pursued his brother with the sword, choking up all pity; Because he persisted in his anger and kept his wrath to the end,
12 I shall send fire down on Teman to devour the palaces of Bozrah.	12 I will send fire upon Teman, and it will devour the castles of Bozrah.
13 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of the Ammonites, I have made my decreeand will not relent: because they have disembowelled the pregnant women of Gilead in order to extend their ownfrontiers,	13 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because they ripped open expectant mothers in Gilead, while extending their territory,
14 I shall light a fire against the walls of Rabbah to devour its palaces amid war cries on the day of battle,in a whirlwind on the day of storm,	14 I will kindle a fire upon the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour her castles Amid clamor on the day of battle and stormwind in a time of tempest.
15 and their king shal go into captivity, he and his chief men with him, says Yahweh.	15 Their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes with him, says the LORD.
