Daniel 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions that passed through hishead as he lay in bed. He wrote the dream down, and this is how the narrative began:	1 L'anno primo di Baltassar, re di Babilonia, Daniele ebbe una visione in sogno, l'ebbe nel suo letto, e poi scrisse in brevi note questo sogno, e, nel riferirlo compendiosamente, disse:
2 Daniel said, 'I have been seeing visions in the night. I saw that the four winds of heaven were stirring upthe Great Sea;	2 « Nella notte ebbi questa visione: i quattro venti dell'aria combattevano nel gran mare,
3 four great beasts emerged from the sea, each different from the others.	3 e quattro grandi bestie diverse l'una dall'altra, salivano dal mare.
4 The first was like a lion with eagle's wings and, as I looked, its wings were torn off, and it was lifted offthe ground and set standing on its feet like a human; and it was given a human heart.	4 La prima sembrava una leonessa con ali d'aquila. Mentre io stava a guardarla le furono svelte le ali, e fu alzata da terra, e si rizzò sui piedi come un uomo, e le fu dato un cuore d'uomo.
5 And there before me was a second beast, like a bear, rearing up on one side, with three ribs in itsmouth, between its teeth. "Up!" came the command. "Eat quantities of flesh!"	5 Ed ecco venirle a lato una seconda bestia simile all'orso: aveva nella sua bocca tre file di denti e le era detto: — Sorgi e mangia moltissima carne. —
6 After this I looked; and there before me was another beast, like a leopard, and with four bird's wings onits flanks; it had four heads and was granted authority.	6 Dopo questo, mentre io stava a guardare, ecco un'altra bestia simile al leopardo: aveva sopra il suo dorso quattro ali come di uccello; la bestia aveva quattro teste e le fu data la potenza.
7 Next, in the visions of the night, I saw another vision: there before me was a fourth beast, fearful,terrifying, very strong; it had great iron teeth, and it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remainsunderfoot. It was different from the previous beasts and had ten horns.	7 Dopo questo, mentre io stava a guardare nella notturna visione, ecco una quarta bestia terribile, spaventosa, straordinariamente forte: essa aveva grandi denti di ferro; dopo aver mangiato e sbranato, calpestava coi piedi quel che restava; era differente dalle altre bestie da me vedute avanti, e aveva dieci corna.
8 'While I was looking at these horns, I saw another horn sprouting among them, a little one; three of theoriginal horns were pul ed out by the roots to make way for it; and in this horn I saw eyes like human eyes, and amouth ful of boasting.	8 Io stava a considerare le corna, quand'ecco spuntare un diro piccolo corno in mezzo ad esse, e tre delle prime corna furono svelte all'apparir di questo corno, nel quale apparvero degli occhi come gli occhi d'uomo, e una bocca che diceva grandi cose.
9 While I was watching, thrones were set in place and one most venerable took his seat. His robe waswhite as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burningfire.	9 Io stava ad osservare finche non furono alzati dei troni e non s'assise l'Antico dei giorni: le sue vesti erano bianche come la neve; i capelli della sua testa eran come candida lana; vive fiamme erano il suo trono e le ruote del suo trono erano fuoco divampante.
10 A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, tenthousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was in session and the books lay open.	10 Un fiume di fuoco scorreva rapidamente davanti alla sua faccia. Migliaia di migliaia lo servivano, e miriadi di centinaia di migliaia, stavan pronti davanti a lui. Cominciò il giudizio, e i libri furono aperti.
11 'I went on watching: then, because of the noise made by the boastings of the horn, as I watched, thebeast was put to death, and its body destroyed and committed to the flames.	11 Io stava a vedere, a motivo del rumore delle grandi parole che quel coro diceva: ma vidi che la bestia era stata uccisa, che il suo corpo era fatto a pezzi, e gettato ad ardere nel fuoco.
12 The other beasts were deprived of their empire, but received a lease of life for a season and a time.	12 Ed anche alle altre bestie era stato tolto il potere e fissata la durata della loro vita da tempo a tempo.
13 I was gazing into the visions of the night, when I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, as it were ason of man. He came to the One most venerable and was led into his presence.	13 Or mentre io stava a osservare nella visione notturna, ecco sulle nubi del cielo venire uno simile al figlio dell'uomo, avanzarsi fino all'Antico dei giorni, essere presentato a lui,
14 On him was conferred rule, honour and kingship, and all peoples, nations and languages became hisservants. His rule is an everlasting rule which wil never pass away, and his kingship wil never come to an end.	14 che gli diede dominio, onore e regno: tutti i popoli, tribù e lingue a lui serviranno; la sua potestà è potestà eterna che non gli sarà mai tolta, il suo regno non sarà mai distrutto.
15 'I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed and the visions that passed through my head alarmed me.	15 Coll'animo pieno di spavento, io Daniele rimasi atterrito da tali cose, e conturbato dalle mie visioni.
16 So I approached one of those who were standing by and asked him about al this. And in reply herevealed to me what these things meant.	16 Mì avvicinai ad uno degli assistenti, a domandargli il significato di tante cose. Egli me ne dette la spiegazione, dicendomi:
17 "These four great beasts are four kings who will rise up from the earth.	17 « Queste quattro grandi bestie son quattro regni che sorgeranno sulla terra;
18 Those who receive royal power are the holy ones of the Most High, and kingship will be theirs for ever,for ever and ever."	18 poi riceveranno il regno i santi dell'Altissimo Dio e regneranno per sempre nei secoli dei secoli ».
19 Then I asked about the fourth beast, different from al the rest, very terrifying, with iron teeth andbronze claws; it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remains underfoot;	19 Dopo ciò bramai di avere minute spiegazioni riguardo alla quarta bestia, molto differente dalle altre, molto terribile, coi denti e le unghie di ferro, che mangiava e sbranava e poi calpestava coi piedi ciò che restava;
20 and about the ten horns on its head -- and why the other horn sprouted and the three original hornsfel , and why this horn had eyes and a mouth ful of boasting, and why it looked more impressive than its fel ows.	20 come pure intorno alle dieci corna che essa aveva sulla testa, al corno spuntato poi, e all'apparire del quale eran cadute tre corna, e come mai quel corno avesse occhi e bocca spacciante grandi cose, e fosse maggiore di tutti gli altri.
21 This was the horn I had watched making war on the holy ones and proving the stronger,	21 Io stava a guardare, ed ecco che quel corno faceva la guerra contro i santi, e ne restava vincitore,
22 until the coming of the One most venerable who gave judgement in favour of the holy ones of the MostHigh, when the time came for the holy ones to assume kingship.	22 finchè non venne l'Antico dei giorni a sentenziare in favore dei santi dell'Altissimo, e non venne il tempo in cui i santi ottennero il regno.
23 This is what he said: "The fourth beast is to be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from al otherkingdoms. It will devour the whole world, trample it underfoot and crush it.	23 Così mi disse: « La quarta bestia sarà un quarto regno sulla terra, un regno maggiore di tutti i regni, che ingoierà tutta la terra, la calpesterà, la stritolerà.
24 As for the ten horns: from this kingdom will rise ten kings, and another after them; this one will bedifferent from the previous ones and wil bring down three kings;	24 I dieci corni dello stesso regno saran dieci re, dopo i quali se ne alzerà un altro che sarà più potente dei primi ed umilierà tre re,
25 he wil insult the Most High, and torment the holy ones of the Most High. He will plan to alter theseasons and the Law, and the Saints wil be handed over to him for a time, two times, and half a time.	25 e parlerà contro l'Altissimo, calpesterà i santi di Dio, crederà di poter mutare i derapi e le leggi: saranno in suo potere per un tempo due tempi e metà d'un tempo.
26 But the court will sit, and he wil be stripped of his royal authority which wil be final y destroyed andreduced to nothing.	26 Poì comincerà il giudizio, e a lui sarà tolta la potenza, egli sarà distrutto, perirà per sempre.
27 And kingship and rule and the splendours of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the peopleof the holy ones of the Most High, whose royal power is an eternal power, whom every empire wil serve andobey."	27 E il regno e la potenza e la magnificenza del regno che è sotto tutto il cielo sarà data al popolo dei santi dell'Altissimo: il suo regno è regno eterno; tutti ire serviranno e obbediranno a lui ».
28 'Here the narrative ends. 'I, Daniel, was greatly disturbed in mind, and I grew pale; but I kept thesethings to myself.'	28 E qui finì il discorso. Io Daniele fui molto spaventato dai miei pensieri; il mio viso cangiò di colore; ma conservai la cosa nel mio cuore.
