Daniel 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions that passed through hishead as he lay in bed. He wrote the dream down, and this is how the narrative began:	1 En la première année de Balthazar roi de Babylone, au cours d’une nuit, Daniel eut un rêve et des visions qu’il fixa par écrit. En voici le récit.
2 Daniel said, 'I have been seeing visions in the night. I saw that the four winds of heaven were stirring upthe Great Sea;	2 Daniel prit la parole et dit: J’ai eu des visions durant la nuit: les quatre vents du ciel soulevaient la grande mer
3 four great beasts emerged from the sea, each different from the others.	3 et quatre bêtes énormes sortirent de la mer; elles étaient toutes les quatre différentes.
4 The first was like a lion with eagle's wings and, as I looked, its wings were torn off, and it was lifted offthe ground and set standing on its feet like a human; and it was given a human heart.	4 La première ressemblait à un lion avec des ailes d’aigle; pendant que je la regardais, ses ailes lui furent arrachées, elle fut soulevée de terre et se dressa sur ses pieds comme un homme; un cœur d’homme lui fut donné.
5 And there before me was a second beast, like a bear, rearing up on one side, with three ribs in itsmouth, between its teeth. "Up!" came the command. "Eat quantities of flesh!"	5 La seconde bête était semblable à un ours, elle était dressée sur un côté et tenait trois côtes entre ses dents. Alors on lui dit: “Lève-toi et dévore beaucoup de viande.”
6 After this I looked; and there before me was another beast, like a leopard, and with four bird's wings onits flanks; it had four heads and was granted authority.	6 Je regardai et je vis une autre bête semblable à un léopard; elle avait quatre ailes d’oiseau sur les côtés, elle avait quatre têtes, et le pouvoir lui fut donné.
7 Next, in the visions of the night, I saw another vision: there before me was a fourth beast, fearful,terrifying, very strong; it had great iron teeth, and it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remainsunderfoot. It was different from the previous beasts and had ten horns.	7 Tandis que je contemplais mes visions nocturnes, j’aperçus une quatrième bête terrible, effrayante, d’une puissance incroyable; elle avait de grandes dents de fer, elle mangeait, broyait et écrasait de ses pieds tout ce qui restait. Différente de toutes les bêtes qui étaient venues avant elle, elle avait dix cornes.
8 'While I was looking at these horns, I saw another horn sprouting among them, a little one; three of theoriginal horns were pul ed out by the roots to make way for it; and in this horn I saw eyes like human eyes, and amouth ful of boasting.	8 Je regardais les cornes: voici qu’une autre corne, petite, sortit du milieu d’elles et trois des cornes précédentes furent arrachées pour lui laisser la place. Alors je vis sur cette corne des yeux semblables à des yeux d’homme et une bouche qui prononçait des paroles insolentes.
9 While I was watching, thrones were set in place and one most venerable took his seat. His robe waswhite as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burningfire.	9 Je regardais toujours; on installa des trônes et un vieillard s’assit; son vêtement était blanc comme la neige, les cheveux de sa tête, comme la laine blanche, son trône était de flammes de feu avec des roues de feu ardent.
10 A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, tenthousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was in session and the books lay open.	10 Un fleuve de feu sortait et jaillissait de devant lui; des mille et des milliers le servaient, des millions et des millions se tenaient debout devant lui. Le tribunal se mit en place et l’on ouvrit les livres.
11 'I went on watching: then, because of the noise made by the boastings of the horn, as I watched, thebeast was put to death, and its body destroyed and committed to the flames.	11 Les paroles insolentes prononcées par la corne avaient créé un grand désordre. Aussi, tandis que je regardais, la bête fut tuée, son corps fut détruit et jeté dans un feu ardent.
12 The other beasts were deprived of their empire, but received a lease of life for a season and a time.	12 On enleva aux autres bêtes leur pouvoir, mais leur vie fut prolongée pour un moment, jusqu’à la date fixée.
13 I was gazing into the visions of the night, when I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, as it were ason of man. He came to the One most venerable and was led into his presence.	13 Tandis que je contemplais ces visions nocturnes, je vis comme un fils d’homme venant avec les nuées du ciel; il s’avança vers le vieillard et on le conduisit en sa présence.
14 On him was conferred rule, honour and kingship, and all peoples, nations and languages became hisservants. His rule is an everlasting rule which wil never pass away, and his kingship wil never come to an end.	14 On lui donna le pouvoir, la gloire et la royauté: tous les peuples, nations et langues, le servirent. Son pouvoir est le pouvoir pour toujours, qui ne passera pas; son royaume ne sera pas détruit.
15 'I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed and the visions that passed through my head alarmed me.	15 Moi, Daniel, je restai là. Mon esprit était troublé à la suite de tout cela, car ces visions m’avaient effrayé.
16 So I approached one of those who were standing by and asked him about al this. And in reply herevealed to me what these things meant.	16 Je m’approchai donc de l’un de ceux qui se tenaient là debout et je lui demandai de me dire la réalité de tout ce que j’avais vu. Il me parla et me donna la signification de toutes ces choses.
17 "These four great beasts are four kings who will rise up from the earth.	17 Ces bêtes énormes au nombre de quatre sont quatre rois qui apparaîtront sur la terre,
18 Those who receive royal power are the holy ones of the Most High, and kingship will be theirs for ever,for ever and ever."	18 après quoi les saints du Très-Haut recevront la royauté et la posséderont pour les siècles et les siècles des siècles.
19 Then I asked about the fourth beast, different from al the rest, very terrifying, with iron teeth andbronze claws; it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remains underfoot;	19 Je voulais encore connaître la vérité au sujet de la quatrième bête, si différente des autres et si terrible avec ses dents de fer et ses griffes de bronze, qui dévorait, broyait, et piétinait ensuite tout ce qui restait.
20 and about the ten horns on its head -- and why the other horn sprouted and the three original hornsfel , and why this horn had eyes and a mouth ful of boasting, and why it looked more impressive than its fel ows.	20 Je voulais savoir qui étaient ces dix cornes qu’elle portait sur la tête, et l’autre corne qui avait poussé, devant laquelle trois des premières étaient tombées; je voulais savoir ce qu’était cette corne avec des yeux et une bouche qui prononçait des paroles insolentes et qui semblait plus importante que les autres.
21 This was the horn I had watched making war on the holy ones and proving the stronger,	21 Je regardais cette corne qui faisait la guerre aux saints et qui remportait sur eux la victoire,
22 until the coming of the One most venerable who gave judgement in favour of the holy ones of the MostHigh, when the time came for the holy ones to assume kingship.	22 jusqu’à l’arrivée du vieillard qui rendit un jugement en faveur des saints du Très-Haut, et à ce moment les saints possédèrent le royaume.
23 This is what he said: "The fourth beast is to be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from al otherkingdoms. It will devour the whole world, trample it underfoot and crush it.	23 Alors celui que j’avais interrogé me dit: “La quatrième bête est un quatrième royaume sur la terre qui sera différent de tous les autres; il dévorera toute la terre, l’écrasera et la piétinera.
24 As for the ten horns: from this kingdom will rise ten kings, and another after them; this one will bedifferent from the previous ones and wil bring down three kings;	24 Ces dix cornes sont dix rois qui se lèveront dans ce royaume, puis un autre se lèvera après eux, différent des précédents, qui abattra trois rois.
25 he wil insult the Most High, and torment the holy ones of the Most High. He will plan to alter theseasons and the Law, and the Saints wil be handed over to him for a time, two times, and half a time.	25 Il parlera contre le Très-Haut, il persécutera les saints du Très-Haut, il essaiera de changer le calendrier et la Loi; les saints seront livrés en son pouvoir pour un temps, deux temps et la moitié d’un temps.
26 But the court will sit, and he wil be stripped of his royal authority which wil be final y destroyed andreduced to nothing.	26 Mais le tribunal se mettra en place, on lui retirera son pouvoir, il sera détruit et exterminé pour toujours.
27 And kingship and rule and the splendours of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the peopleof the holy ones of the Most High, whose royal power is an eternal power, whom every empire wil serve andobey."	27 Alors la royauté, l’autorité et la grandeur de tous les royaumes qui sont sous les cieux seront données au peuple des saints du Très-Haut; son règne est un règne éternel et toutes les puissances le serviront et lui obéiront.”
28 'Here the narrative ends. 'I, Daniel, was greatly disturbed in mind, and I grew pale; but I kept thesethings to myself.'	28 Ici s’achève le récit. Moi, Daniel, ces visions m’avaient effrayé et mon visage avait changé de couleur, mais j’ai conservé tout cela dans mon cœur.
