Daniel 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions that passed through hishead as he lay in bed. He wrote the dream down, and this is how the narrative began:	1 L'anno primo di Baltassar re di Babilonia, Daniele ebbe visione in sogno, e la visione la ebbe essendo nel suo letto, e scrisse, e registrò in brevi note questo sogno, e compendiosamente riferendolo, disse:
2 Daniel said, 'I have been seeing visions in the night. I saw that the four winds of heaven were stirring upthe Great Sea;	2 Io ebbi una notte questa visione: i quattro venti dell'aria combattevano nel gran mare;
3 four great beasts emerged from the sea, each different from the others.	3 E quattro grandi bestie uscivan dal mare tra lor diverse.
4 The first was like a lion with eagle's wings and, as I looked, its wings were torn off, and it was lifted offthe ground and set standing on its feet like a human; and it was given a human heart.	4 La prima come una lionessa, e aveva le ali di aquila. Io la riguardava, ed ecco che le furon svelte le ali: ed ella fu alzata da terra, e su pie' suoi si stette come un uomo, e le fu dato un cuore di uomo.
5 And there before me was a second beast, like a bear, rearing up on one side, with three ribs in itsmouth, between its teeth. "Up!" came the command. "Eat quantities of flesh!"	5 Ed ecco un'altra bestia le stette al lato simile ad un orso, e avea nella sua bocca tre palchi di denti, e dicevano a lei così; Sorgi, mangia delle carni in abbondanza.
6 After this I looked; and there before me was another beast, like a leopard, and with four bird's wings onits flanks; it had four heads and was granted authority.	6 Dopo di ciò io guardava, ed eccone un'altra come un leopardo, e avea nella parte sua superiore quattro ali come di uccello, e la bestia aveva quattro capi, e fu data a lei la possanza.
7 Next, in the visions of the night, I saw another vision: there before me was a fourth beast, fearful,terrifying, very strong; it had great iron teeth, and it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remainsunderfoot. It was different from the previous beasts and had ten horns.	7 Dopo tali cose io stava osservando nella notturna visione, ed ecco una quarta bestia, terribile, e prodigiosa, e forte straordinariamente: ella aveva grandi denti di ferro, mangiava, e sbranava, e quel, che restava, lo calpestava co' piedi: ma ella era dissimile dalle altre bestie, che lo avea vedute prima di questa, e avea dieci corna.
8 'While I was looking at these horns, I saw another horn sprouting among them, a little one; three of theoriginal horns were pul ed out by the roots to make way for it; and in this horn I saw eyes like human eyes, and amouth ful of boasting.	8 Io considerava le corna, quand' ecco che un altro piccolo corno spuntò in mezzo a queste, e tre delle prime corna le furono svelte all'apparire di questo, ed ecco che in questo corno erano occhi quasi occhi di uomo, e una bocca, che spacciava cose grandi.
9 While I was watching, thrones were set in place and one most venerable took his seat. His robe waswhite as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burningfire.	9 Io mi stava osservando fino a tanto che furono alzati dei troni, e l'antico de' giorni si assise: le sue vestimenta candide come neve, e i capelli della sua testa come lana lavata. Il trono di lui fiamme infuocate: le ruote del trono erano vivo fuoco.
10 A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, tenthousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was in session and the books lay open.	10 Rapido fiume di fuoco usciva dalla sua faccia: i suoi ministri erano migliaia di migliaia, e i suoi assistenti dieci mila volte cento mila. S'assise il giudizio, e i libri furono aperti.
11 'I went on watching: then, because of the noise made by the boastings of the horn, as I watched, thebeast was put to death, and its body destroyed and committed to the flames.	11 Io stava osservando a motivo del rumore di quelle grandi cose, che quel corno spacciava: ma vidi, che questa bestia era stata uccisa, ed era perito il corpo di lei, ed era stato gettato ad ardere nel fuoco;
12 The other beasts were deprived of their empire, but received a lease of life for a season and a time.	12 Come anche alle altre bestie era stato tolto il potere, e fissato lo spazio della lor vita per un tempo, ed un tempo.
13 I was gazing into the visions of the night, when I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, as it were ason of man. He came to the One most venerable and was led into his presence.	13 Io stava adunque osservando nella visione notturna, ed ecco colle nubi del cielo venire come il Figliuolo dell'uomo, ed ei si avanzò fino all'antico de' giorni: e lo presentarono al cospetto di lui.
14 On him was conferred rule, honour and kingship, and all peoples, nations and languages became hisservants. His rule is an everlasting rule which wil never pass away, and his kingship wil never come to an end.	14 Ed ei gli diede potestà, onore, e regno; e tutti i popoli, tribù, e lingue a lui serviranno: la potestà di lui è potestà eterna, che non gli sarà tolta, e il regno di lui è incorruttibile.
15 'I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed and the visions that passed through my head alarmed me.	15 L'orrore mi prese: io Daniele rimasi atterrito per tali cose, e le mie visioni mi conturbarono.
16 So I approached one of those who were standing by and asked him about al this. And in reply herevealed to me what these things meant.	16 Mi appressai ad uno degli assistenti, e a lui domandava la verità di tutte queste cose: e questi mi diede la spiegazione delle cose, e m' istruì:
17 "These four great beasts are four kings who will rise up from the earth.	17 Queste quattro bestie grandi son quattro reami, che si alzeranno dalla terra.
18 Those who receive royal power are the holy ones of the Most High, and kingship will be theirs for ever,for ever and ever."	18 Poi riceveranno il regno i santi di Dio altissimo, e regneranno sino al fine del secolo, e pe' secoli de' secoli.
19 Then I asked about the fourth beast, different from al the rest, very terrifying, with iron teeth andbronze claws; it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remains underfoot;	19 Io bramai dipoi di essere informato minutamente della quarta bestia, che era molto dissimile da tutte le altre, e fuor di modo terribile: i denti suoi, e le unghie di ferro: mangiava, e sbranava, e quel, che restava, lo calpe stava co' piedi suoi:
20 and about the ten horns on its head -- and why the other horn sprouted and the three original hornsfel , and why this horn had eyes and a mouth ful of boasting, and why it looked more impressive than its fel ows.	20 E di esser informato intorno alle dieci corna, che ella avea sulla testa, e all'altro, che era spuntato, all'apparir del quale erano cadute tre corna, e come quel corno avesse occhi, e bocca spacciarne cose grandi, e fosse maggiore di tutti gli altri.
21 This was the horn I had watched making war on the holy ones and proving the stronger,	21 Io stava osservando, ed ecco che quel corno facea guerra contro de' santi, e li superava:
22 until the coming of the One most venerable who gave judgement in favour of the holy ones of the MostHigh, when the time came for the holy ones to assume kingship.	22 Fino a tanto che venne l'antico de' giorni, e sentenziò in favore de'santi dell'Altissimo, e venne il tempo, in cui i santi ottennero il regno.
23 This is what he said: "The fourth beast is to be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from al otherkingdoms. It will devour the whole world, trample it underfoot and crush it.	23 E quegli così mi disse: La quarta bestia sarà il quarto regno sopra la terra, il quale sarà maggiore di tutti i regni, e ingoierà tutta la terra, e la calpesterà, e la stritolerà.
24 As for the ten horns: from this kingdom will rise ten kings, and another after them; this one will bedifferent from the previous ones and wil bring down three kings;	24 E i dieci corni dello stesso regno saran dieci re; e un altro si alzerà dopo di essi, che sarà più possente de' primi, e umilierà tre regi.
25 he wil insult the Most High, and torment the holy ones of the Most High. He will plan to alter theseasons and the Law, and the Saints wil be handed over to him for a time, two times, and half a time.	25 Ed ei parlerà male contro l'Altissimo, e calpesterà i santi dell'Altissimo, e si crederà di poter cangiare i tempi, e le leggi, e saranno poste in mano a lui tutte le cose per un tempo, due tempi, e per la metà d'un tempo.
26 But the court will sit, and he wil be stripped of his royal authority which wil be final y destroyed andreduced to nothing.	26 E il giudizio sarà assiso, affinchè si tolga a lui la potenza, ed ei sia distrutto, e per sempre perisca.
27 And kingship and rule and the splendours of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the peopleof the holy ones of the Most High, whose royal power is an eternal power, whom every empire wil serve andobey."	27 E il regno, e la potestà, e la magnificenza del regno, quanta è sotto tutto il cielo, sia data al popolo de' santi dell'Altissimo, il regno di cui è regno sempiterno, e i regi tutti a lui serviranno, e lo ubbidiranno.
28 'Here the narrative ends. 'I, Daniel, was greatly disturbed in mind, and I grew pale; but I kept thesethings to myself.'	28 Qui egli finì di parlare. Io Daniele era conturbato forte ne' miei pensieri, e il mio volto si cangiò: e nel cuor mio feci conserva di quelle parole.
