Daniel 2

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had a series of dreams; he was perturbed by this andsleep deserted him.	1 El segundo año del reinado de Nabucodonosor, este tuvo unos sueños, y su espíritu quedó tan perturbado que no pudo seguir durmiendo.
2 The king then had magicians and soothsayers, sorcerers and Chaldaeans summoned to tel him whathis dreams meant. They arrived and stood in the king's presence.	2 El rey mandó llamar a los magos, los adivinos, los hechiceros y los caldeos, para que le explicaran sus sueños. Ellos fueron a presentarse delante del rey,
3 The king said to them, 'I have had a dream, and my mind is troubled by a wish to understand it.'	3 y él les dijo: «He tenido un sueño, y mi espíritu está ansioso por conocer ese sueño».
4 The Chaldaeans answered the king: 'May your majesty live for ever! Tel your servants the dream, andwe shal reveal its meaning for you.'	4 Los caldeos respondieron al rey: «¡Viva el rey eternamente! Di a tus servidores lo que has soñado, y nosotros expondremos la interpretación».
5 The king answered the Chaldaeans, 'This is my firm resolve: if you cannot tel me what I dreamt andwhat it means, I shal have you torn limb from limb and your houses turned into dunghil s.	5 Pero el rey tomó la palabra y dijo a los caldeos: «Mi decisión ya está tomada: si no me dan a conocer el sueño y su interpretación, ustedes serán cortados en pedazos y sus casas quedarán reducidas a un basural.
6 If, on the other hand, you can tel me what I dreamt and what it means, I shal give you presents,rewards and high honour. So tel me what I dreamt and what it means.'	6 En cambio, si me exponen el sueño y su interpretación, recibirán de mí obsequios, regalos y grandes honores. Por lo tanto, expónganme el sueño y su interpretación».
7 A second time they said, 'Let the king tel his dream to his servants, and we shal reveal its meaning.'	7 Ellos respondieron por segunda vez, diciendo: «Que el rey diga a sus servidores lo que ha soñado, y nosotros expondremos la interpretación».
8 But the king retorted, 'It is plain to me that you are trying to gain time, knowing my proclaimed resolve.	8 El rey replicó: «Yo sé ciertamente que ustedes están tratando de ganar tiempo, porque han visto que mi decisión está tomada.
9 If you do not interpret my dream for me, there will be but one sentence passed on you al ; you haveagreed among yourselves to make me misleading and tortuous speeches while the time goes by. So tel mewhat my dream was, and then I shal know whether you can interpret it.'	9 Pero si no me dan a conocer el sueño, habrá para ustedes una sola sentencia. Ustedes se han confabulado para entretenerme con palabras engañosas y perversas, hasta que los tiempos cambien. Por eso díganme el sueño, y así sabré que pueden exponerme su interpretación».
10 The Chaldaeans answered the king, 'Nobody in the world could explain the king's problem; what ismore, no other king, governor or chief would think of putting such a question to any magician, soothsayer orChaldaean.	10 Los caldeos respondieron delante del rey, diciendo: «No hay ningún hombre sobre la tierra que pueda exponer lo que pide el rey, ya que ningún rey, por grande y poderoso que sea, ha pedido jamás una cosa semejante a un mago, adivino o caldeo.
11 The question the king asks is difficult, and no one can find the king an answer to it, except the gods,whose dwelling is not with mortals.'	11 Lo que pide el rey es excesivo, y no hay nadie que pueda exponerlo ante el rey, fuera de los dioses, cuya morada no está con los mortales».
12 At this the king flew into a rage and ordered al the Babylonian sages to be put to death.	12 El rey se enfureció terriblemente a causa de esto, y ordenó ejecutar a todos los sabios de Babilonia.
13 On publication of the decree to have the sages killed, search was made for Daniel and hiscompanions to have them put to death.	13 Se promulgó el decreto de hacer morir a los sabios, y también se buscó a Daniel y a sus compañeros para darles muerte.
14 Then, with shrewd and cautious words, Daniel approached Arioch, the king's chief executioner, whenhe was on his way to kil the Babylonian sages.	14 Entonces Daniel se dirigió con cautela y discreción a Arioc, capitán de guardias del rey, que había salido para matar a los sabios de Babilonia.
15 To this royal official Arioch he said, 'Why has the king issued such a harsh decree?' Arioch explainedmatters to Daniel,	15 El tomó la palabra y dijo a Arioc, comandante del rey: «¿Por qué este decreto tan perentorio de parte del rey?». Arioc informó del asunto a Daniel
16 and Daniel went off to ask the king for a stay of execution to give him the opportunity of revealing his interpretation to the king.	16 y este fue a pedir al rey que le concediera un plazo para exponerle la interpretación.
17 Daniel then went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah what had happened,	17 Daniel se fue a su casa e informó del asunto a Ananías, Misael y Azarías, sus compañeros,
18 urging them to beg the God of heaven to show his mercy and explain the mysterious secret, so thatDaniel and his friends might be spared the fate of the other Babylonian sages.	18 instándolos a implorar misericordia ante el Dios del cielo acerca de aquel misterio, a fin de que no los hicieran perecer, a ellos y a él, con el resto de los sabios de Babilonia.
19 The mystery was then revealed to Daniel in a night-vision, and Daniel blessed the God of heaven.	19 Entonces el misterio fue revelado a Daniel en una visión nocturna, y él bendijo al Dios del cielo.
20 This is what Daniel said: May the name of God be blessed for ever and ever, since wisdom and powerare his alone.	20 Daniel tomó la palabra y exclamó: «Bendito sea el nombre de Dios, desde siempre y para siempre, porque a él pertenecen la sabiduría y la fuerza.
21 It is he who controls the procession of times and seasons, who makes and unmakes kings, whoconfers wisdom on the wise, and knowledge on those with discernment,	21 El hace alternar los tiempos y las estaciones, él depone y entroniza a los reyes, da la sabiduría a los sabios y el conocimiento a los que saben discernir.
22 who uncovers depths and mysteries, who knows what lies in darkness; and light dwel s with him.	22 El revela las cosas profundas y ocultas, conoce lo que está en las tinieblas y la luz habita junto a él.
23 To you, God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise for having given me wisdom and strength: to meyou have explained what we asked you, to us you have explained the king's problem.	23 A ti, Dios de mis padres, yo te alabo y glorifico, porque me has dado la sabiduría y la fuerza; y ahora me has manifestado lo que te habíamos pedido, porque nos has hecho conocer lo concerniente al rey».
24 So Daniel went to see Arioch, whom the king had made responsible for putting the Babylonian sagesto death. Going in, he said, 'Do not put the Babylonian sages to death. Take me into the king's presence and Iwil reveal the meaning to the king.'	24 A causa de esto, Daniel se presentó a Arioc, a quien el rey había encargado ejecutar a los sabios de Babilonia, y le habló de esta manera: «No hagas morir a los sabios de Babilonia. Llévame ante la presencia del rey, y yo le expondré la interpretación».
25 Arioch lost no time in bringing Daniel to the king. 'Among the exiles from Judah,' he said, 'I havediscovered a man who can reveal the meaning to the king.'	25 Arioc llevó rápidamente a Daniel ante la presencia del rey, y le dijo: «He hallado entre los deportados de Judá a un hombre que hará conocer al rey la interpretación».
26 The king said to Daniel (who had been given the name Belteshazzar), 'Can you tel me what I dreamtand what it means?'	26 El rey tomó la palabra y dijo a Daniel, llamado Beltsasar: «¿Eres tú capaz de darme a conocer el sueño que tuve y su interpretación?».
27 Facing the king, Daniel replied, 'None of the sages, soothsayers, magicians or exorcists has beenable to tell the king the truth of the mystery which the king has propounded;	27 Daniel respondió ante el rey, diciendo: «El rey interroga sobre un misterio que no se lo puede aclarar ningún sabio, adivino, mago o astrólogo.
28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries and who has shown King Nebuchadnezzar whatis to take place in the final days. These, then, are the dream and the visions that passed through your head asyou lay in bed:	28 Sin embargo, hay en el cielo un Dios que revela los misterios, y que ha dado a conocer al rey Nabucodonosor lo que sucederá en los días venideros. Tu sueño y las visiones de tu imaginación, cuando estabas en tu lecho, fueron estos:
29 'Your Majesty, on your bed your thoughts turned to what would happen in the future, and the Revealerof Mysteries disclosed to you what is to take place.	29 A ti, mientras estabas en tu lecho, te sobrevinieron pensamientos acerca de lo que va a suceder en adelante, y el que revela los misterios te ha hecho conocer lo que va a suceder.
30 This mystery has been revealed to me, not that I am wiser than anyone else, but for this sole purpose:that the king should learn what it means, and that you should understand your inmost thoughts.	30 En cuanto a mí, este misterio me ha sido revelado no porque yo tenga una sabiduría superior a la de todos los vivientes, sino para que se ponga de manifiesto al rey la interpretación, y así conozcas los pensamientos de tu corazón.
31 'You have had a vision, Your Majesty; this is what you saw: a statue, a great statue of extremebrightness, stood before you, terrible to see.	31 Tú, rey, estabas mirando, y viste una gran estatua. Esa estatua, enorme y de un brillo extraordinario, se alzaba delante de ti, y su aspecto era impresionante.
32 The head of this statue was of fine gold, its chest and arms were of silver, its belly and thighs ofbronze,	32 Su cabeza era de oro fino; su pecho y sus brazos, de plata; su vientre y sus caderas, de bronce;
33 its legs of iron, its feet part iron, part clay.	33 sus piernas, de hierro, y sus pies, parte de hierro y parte de arcilla.
34 While you were gazing, a stone broke away, untouched by any hand, and struck the statue, struck itsfeet of iron and clay and shattered them.	34 Tú estabas mirando, y de pronto se desprendió una piedra, sin que interviniera ninguna mano: ella golpeó la estatua sobre sus pies de hierro y de arcilla, y los pulverizó.
35 Then, iron and clay, bronze, silver and gold, al broke into pieces as fine as chaff on the threshing-floorin summer. The wind blew them away, leaving not a trace behind. And the stone that had struck the statue grewinto a great mountain, fil ing the whole world.	35 Entonces fueron pulverizados al mismo tiempo el hierro, la arcilla, el bronce, la plata y el oro; fueron como la paja en la era durante el verano: el viento se los llevó y no quedó ningún rastro. En cuanto a la piedra que había golpeado la estatua, se convirtió en una gran montaña, y llenó toda la tierra.
36 This was the dream; we shal now explain to the king what it means.	36 Este fue el sueño; ahora diremos su interpretación en presencia del rey.
37 'You, Your Majesty, king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given sovereignty, power, strengthand honour-	37 Tú, rey, eres el rey de reyes, a quien el Dios del cielo ha conferido la realeza, el poder, la fuerza y la gloria;
38 human beings, wild animals, birds of the air, wherever they live, he has entrusted to your rule, makingyou king of them al -- you are the golden head.	38 él ha puesto en tus manos a los hombres, los animales del campo y las aves del cielo, cualquiera sea el lugar donde habitan, y te ha hecho dominar sobre todos ellos: por eso la cabeza de oro eres tú.
39 And, after you, another kingdom wil rise, not as great as yours, and then a third, of bronze, which wilrule the whole world.	39 Después de ti surgirá otro reino inferior a ti, y luego aparecerá un tercer reino, que será de bronce y dominará sobre toda la tierra.
40 There wil be a fourth kingdom, hard as iron, as iron that pulverises and crushes al . Like iron thatbreaks everything to pieces, it wil crush and break all the earlier kingdoms.	40 Y un cuarto reino será duro como el hierro: así como el hierro tritura y pulveriza todo –como el hierro que destroza– él los triturará y destrozará a todos ellos.
41 The feet you saw, part earthenware, part iron, are a kingdom which wil be split in two, but which wilretain something of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron and the clay of the earthenware mixed together.	41 También has visto los pies y los dedos, en parte de arcilla de alfarero y en parte de hierro, porque ese será un reino dividido: habrá en él algo de la solidez de hierro, conforme a lo que has visto del hierro mezclado con la masa de arcilla;
42 The feet were part iron, part potter's clay: the kingdom wil be partly strong and partly brittle.	42 pero como los dedos de los pies son en parte de hierro y en parte de arcilla, una parte del reino será fuerte, y una parte frágil.
43 And just as you saw the iron and the clay of the earthenware mixed together, so the two wil be mixedtogether in human seed; but they wil not hold together any more than iron wil blend with clay.	43 Tú has visto el hierro mezclado con la masa de arcilla, porque ellos se mezclarán entre sí por lazos matrimoniales, pero no llegarán a adherirse mutuamente, como el hierro no se mezcla con la arcilla.
44 In the days of those kings, the God of heaven wil set up a kingdom which wil never be destroyed, andthis kingdom wil not pass into the hands of another race: it will shatter and absorb all the previous kingdoms anditself last for ever-	44 Y en los días de estos reyes, el Dios del cielo suscitará un reino que nunca será destruido y cuya realeza no pasará a otro pueblo: él pulverizará y aniquilará a todos esos reinos, y él mismo subsistirá para siempre,
45 just as you saw a stone, untouched by hand, break away from the mountain and reduce iron, bronze,earthenware, silver and gold to powder. The Great God has shown the king what is to take place. The dream istrue, the interpretation exact.'	45 porque tú has visto, que una piedra se desprendía de la montaña, sin la intervención de ninguna mano, y ella pulverizó el hierro, el bronce, la arcilla, la plata y el oro. El Dios grande hace conocer al rey lo que va a suceder en adelante. El sueño es cierto y su interpretación digna de fe».
46 At this, King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel; he gave orders for Daniel to be offered an oblation and a fragrant sacrifice.	46 Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor cayó con el rostro en tierra, se postró delante de Daniel y ordenó que le ofrecieran oblaciones y perfumes de aroma agradable.
47 The king said to Daniel, 'Your god is indeed the God of gods, the Master of kings, and the Revealer ofMysteries, since you have been able to reveal this mystery.'	47 El rey se dirigió a Daniel y le dijo: «Realmente, el Dios de ustedes es el Dios de los dioses, el Señor de los reyes, y el que revela los misterios, porque tú has podido revelarme este misterio».
48 The king then conferred high rank on Daniel and gave him many handsome presents. He also madehim governor of the whole province of Babylon and head of all the sages of Babylon.	48 Luego el rey confirió a Daniel un alto rango y le otorgó numerosos y magníficos regalos. Le dio autoridad sobre toda la provincia de Babilonia y lo hizo jefe de todos los sabios de Babilonia.
49 At Daniel's request, the king entrusted the affairs of the province of Babylon to Shadrach, Meshachand Abed-Nego; Daniel himself remained in attendance on the king.	49 Daniel rogó al rey que pusiera al frente de la administración de la provincia de Babilonia a Sadrac, Mesac y Abed Negó, y él permaneció en la corte del rey.
