NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
'For your part, son of man, take a brick and lay it in front of you; on it scratch a city, Jerusalem.1 “ Et tu, fili hominis, sume tibi laterem et pones eum coram te etdescribes in eo civitatem Ierusalem.
You are then to besiege it, trench round it, build earthworks, pitch camps and bring up battering-rams alround.2 Et ordinabis adversus eam obsidionem etaedificabis munitiones et comportabis aggerem et dabis contra eam castra etpones arietes in gyro.
Then take an iron pan and place it as though it were an iron wal between you and the city. Then fixyour gaze on it; it is being besieged and you are besieging it. This is a sign for the House of Israel.3 Et tu sume tibi sartaginem ferream et pones eam inmurum ferreum inter te et inter civitatem; et obfirmabis faciem tuam ad eam, eterit in obsidionem, et circumdabis eam: signum est domui Israel.
'Lie down on your left side and take the guilt of the House of Israel on yourself. You wil bear their guiltfor as many days as you lie on that side.4 Et tu recumbes super latus tuum sinistrum et pones iniquitates domus Israelsuper eo; numero dierum, quibus recumbes super illud, assumes iniquitatem eorum.
Allowing one day for every year of their guilt, I ordain that you bear it for three hundred and ninety days;this is how you wil bear the House of Israel's guilt.5 Ego autem dedi tibi annos iniquitatis eorum numero dierum trecentos etnonaginta dies, et portabis iniquitatem domus Israel.
And when you have finished doing this, you are to lie down again, on your right side, and bear the guiltof the House of Judah for forty days. I have set the length for you as one day for one year.6 Et cum compleveris haec, recumbes super latus tuum dextrum secundo et assumes iniquitatem domus Iudaequadraginta diebus; diem pro anno, diem, inquam, pro anno dedi tibi.
Then fix your gaze on the siege of Jerusalem, raise your bared arm and prophesy against her.7 Et adobsidionem Ierusalem convertes faciem tuam, et brachium tuum erit exsertum, etprophetabis adversus eam.
Look, I am going to tie you up and you wil not be able to turn over from one side to the other until theperiod of your seclusion is over.8 Ecce circumdedi te vinculis, et non te convertes alatere tuo in latus aliud, donec compleas dies obsidionis tuae.
'Now take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, mil et and spelt; put them al in the same pot and make theminto bread for yourself. You are to eat it for as many days as you are lying on your side -- three hundred andninety days.9 Et tu sume tibi frumentum et hordeum et fabam et lentem et milium et far etmittes ea in vas unum et facies tibi panes numero dierum, quibus recumbes superlatus tuum: trecentis et nonaginta diebus comedes illud.
Of this food, you are to weigh out a daily portion of twenty shekels and eat it a little piece at a time.10 Cibus autem tuus, quo vesceris, erit in pondere viginti stateres in die; a tempore usque ad tempuscomedes illud.
And you are to ration the water you drink -- a sixth of a hin -- drinking that a little at a time.11 Et aquam in mensura bibes, sextam partem hin; a tempore usquead tempus bibes illud.
You are to eat this in the form of a barley cake baked where they can see you, on human dung.'12 Et quasi subcinericium hordeaceum comedes illud; etstercore, quod egreditur de homine, coques illud in oculis eorum”.
And Yahweh said, 'This is how the Israelites wil have to eat their defiled food, wherever I dispersethem among the nations.'13 Et dixitDominus: “ Sic comedent filii Israel panem suum pollutum inter gentes, ad quaseiciam eos ”.
I then said, 'Lord Yahweh, my soul is not defiled. From my childhood until now, I have never eaten ananimal that has died a natural death or been savaged; no tainted meat has ever entered my mouth.'14 Et dixi: “ Heu, Domine Deus, ecce anima mea non estpolluta, et morticinum et laceratum a bestiis non comedi ab infantia mea usquenunc, et non est ingressa in os meum caro immunda ”.
'Very wel ,' he said, 'I grant you cow-dung instead of human dung; you are to bake your bread on that.'15 Et dixit ad me: “Ecce dedi tibi fimum boum pro stercoribus humanis, et facies panem tuum in eo”.
He then said, 'Son of man, I am going to cut off Jerusalem's food supply; in their extremity, the foodthey eat wil be weighed out; to their horror, the water they drink wil be rationed,16 Et dixit ad me: “ Fili hominis, ecce ego conteram baculum panis inIerusalem, et comedent panem in pondere et in sollicitudine et aquam in mensuraet in desolatione bibent,
until there is no food or water left, and they fall into a stupor and waste away because of their guilt.'17 ut, deficientibus pane et aqua, desoleturunusquisque cum fratre suo, et contabescant in iniquitatibus suis.
