1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,	1 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
2 'Son of man, turn to the right; utter your word towards the south, prophesy against the forest land ofthe Negeb.	2 «Figlio dell’uomo, volgi la faccia verso meridione; parla alla regione australe e profetizza contro la selva del paese del sud.
3 Say to the forest of Negeb, "Hear the word of Yahweh! The Lord Yahweh says this: Listen; I am aboutto kindle a fire in you which wil burn up every green tree in you as wel as every dry one; it wil be anunquenchable blaze and every face wil be scorched by it from the Negeb to the north.	3 Dirai alla selva del sud: “Ascolta la parola di Jahvè; così dice il Signore Jahvè: Sto per accendere in te un fuoco che divorerà ogni albero verde e ogni albero secco. La vampa fiammeggiante non si estinguerà e da sud a nord sarà bruciata ogni cosa.
4 Al humanity wil see that it was I, Yahweh, who kindled it, and it wil not be extinguished." '	4 Ogni mortale vedrà che io, Jahvè, l’ho accesa; non si estinguerà”».
5 I said, 'Lord Yahweh, they say of me, "He does nothing but speak in riddles!"'	5 Allora esclamai: «Ah, Signore Jahvè, essi vanno dicendo di me: “Non è altro che un narratore di fiabe!”»,
6 Then the word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,	6 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
7 'Son of man, turn towards Jerusalem, utter your word towards the sanctuary and prophesy against theland of Israel.	7 «Figlio dell’uomo, volgi la faccia verso Gerusalemme; parla contro i santuari, profetizza contro il paese di Israele.
8 Say to the land of Israel, "Yahweh says this: Now I am against you; I am about to unsheathe my swordand rid you of the upright and the wicked alike.	8 Riferirai, dunque, al paese di Israele: “Così dice Jahvè: Eccomi contro di te, mentre estraggo dal fodero la mia spada per sterminare, in te, giusti e malvagi.
9 Since I am going to rid you of upright and wicked alike, I shal unsheathe my sword against everyonealive, from the Negeb to the north,	9 Appunto per far ciò la mia spada uscì dal fodero colpendo ogni mortale, da sud a nord.
10 so that everyone alive wil know that I, Yahweh, am the one who has unsheathed my sword; it wil notgo back again."	10 Tutti sapranno allora che io, Jahvè, ho tratto la mia spada dal fodero: più non vi rientrerà”.
11 'Son of man, groan as though your heart were breaking. Utter your bitter groans where they can seeyou.	11 E tu, figlio dell’uomo, gemi. Gemi con i lombi spezzati e con amarezza alla loro presenza.
12 And if they say, "Why these groans?" reply, "Because of the news which is about to come, all hearts wil sink, al hands grow weak, all spirits grow faint and al knees turn to water. It is coming now, it is here!-declares Lord Yahweh." '	12 Quando ti chiederanno: “Perché gemi?”, risponderai: “Per una notizia al cui giungere verranno meno i cuori, si fiaccheranno le braccia, gli animi si abbatteranno e le ginocchia si scioglieranno in acqua. Ecco, essa giunge; così sarà”» oracolo del Signore Jahvè.
13 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,	13 Mi fu rivolta quindi la parola di Jahvè:
14 'Son of man, prophesy. Say, "The Lord says this. Say: The sword, the sword has been sharpenedand polished,	14 «Figlio dell’uomo, profetizza: Così dice il Signore Jahvè, riferisci: “La spada, la spada è aguzza e anche forbita;
15 sharpened for slaughter, polished to flash like lightning . . .	15 resa aguzza per massacrare e forbita perché dia bagliori.
16 He has had it polished to be wielded, this sword sharpened and polished to put in the slaughterer'shand!	16 La si diede a forbire perché si prenda in mano; eccola aguzza, la spada, eccola forbita perché sia messa in mano allo sterminatore.
17 Shout and wail, son of man, for it wil come on my people, on all the chief men of Israel doomed likemy people to the sword! So beat your breast,	17 Grida, lamentati, figlio dell’uomo, perché essa grava sul mio popolo, su tutti i principi di Israele, che sono dati in balia della spada insieme con il mio popolo. Percuotiti, perciò, la coscia;
18 for this wil be an ordeal . . . declares the Lord Yahweh.	18 perché la prova è stata fatta, e sebbene uno scettro rimanga sprezzante come ciò non avverrà? Oracolo del Signore Jahvè.
19 So prophesy, son of man, and clap your hands! Let the sword pass three times, that sword forvictims, that sword for a great victim, threatening them from every side!	19 Tu, figlio dell’uomo, profetizza e batti le mani: la spada si raddoppi e si triplichi: è la spada del massacro; la possente spada del massacro che li circonda.
20 To make hearts sink and make sure many fall, I have posted the slaughtering sword at every gate toflash like lightning, polished for slaughter.	20 Perché i cuori si struggano e si moltiplichino i caduti innanzi a tutte le loro porte, ho dato la spada del massacro. Essa è fatta per dare bagliori, forbita per il massacro.
21 Be sharp, on the right, be ready on the left, whichever way your blade is needed!	21 Sii tagliente a destra e a sinistra, dovunque si rivolga la tua lama.
22 I too shal clap my hands and sate my fury! I, Yahweh, have spoken." '	22 Batterò le mani anchio e sazierò il mio furore. Io, Jahvè, ho parlato”».
23 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,	23 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
24 'Son of man, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to come along, making both ofthem begin from the same country. Then put up a signpost, put it where the road leaves for the city,	24 «Ora tu, figlio dell’uomo, traccia due vie per il passaggio della spada del re di Babilonia. Proverranno ambedue da uno stesso paese. Incidi poi un segnale, incidilo all’inizio della via che conduce alla città
25 trace the route which the sword should take for Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites, and for Judah, to thefortress of Jerusalem.	25 Disegna la via perché la spada giunga a Rabbat dei figli di Ammon e in Giuda, contro Gerusalemme fortificata.
26 For the king of Babylon has halted at the fork where these two roads diverge, to take the omens. Hehas shaken the arrows, questioned the household gods, inspected the liver.	26 Infatti, il re di Babilonia sta fermo al bivio, dove hanno inizio le due strade, per praticare la divinazione: agita le frecce, interroga i terafim, osserva il fegato.
27 The lot marked 'Jerusalem' is in his right hand: there to set up battering-rams, give the word forslaughter, raise the war cry, level battering-rams against the gates, cast up earthworks, build entrenchments.	27 Nella destra sta il responso: Gerusalemme; perché apra la bocca per ordinare il massacro, levi la voce nel tumulto della battaglia, disponga gli arieti contro le porte, elevi terrapieni, costruisca torri mobili.
28 The inhabitants wil believe that these omens are idle, for they have received sworn guarantees, buthe wil bring their guilt to mind and capture them.	28 Ai loro occhi, però, questo sarà ritenuto un presagio mendace, perché hanno in loro favore giuramenti solenni! Egli, invece, richiama alla mente la loro iniquità per lasciarli prendere al laccio».
29 And so the Lord Yahweh says this, "Since you have brought your guilt to mind by parading yourmisdeeds and flaunting your sins in everything you do: because you have drawn attention to yourselves, you willbe captured.	29 Infatti, così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Poiché avete fatto ricordare la vostra perversità, svelandosi i vostri misfatti e manifestandosi i vostri peccati in tutte le vostre azioni, poiché vi siete fatti ricordare, sarete presi al laccio per i vostri misfatti.
30 As for you, impious and wicked prince of Israel, whose doom is approaching to put an end to yourcrimes,	30 Quanto a te, disonorato, perverso principe di Israele il cui tramonto è venuto al tempo della colpa finale,
31 the Lord Yahweh says this: They will take away your diadem and remove your crown. Everything wilbe changed; the low wil be raised and the high brought low!	31 così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Togli il turbante e leva il diadema. "Tutto cambierà: ciò che è piccolo sarà elevato e ciò che è alto sarà abbassato.
32 Ruin, ruin, I shal bring such ruin as never was before, until the rightful ruler comes, on whom I shalbestow it."	32 Ridurrò il regno nella più disastrosa rovina, anch’esso ormai non è più, finché non venga chi ne ha il diritto e colui al quale lo rimetterò”».
33 'Son of man, prophesy and say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: In reply to the Ammonites and theirjeers, say: The sword, the sword is drawn for slaughter, polished to devour, to flash like lightning-	33 Ora, tu figlio dell’uomo, profetizza: «Così dice il Signore Jahvè contro i figli di Ammon e contro le loro ingiurie. Parla, dunque: “Una spada, una spada è sguainata per il massacro, forbita per la distruzione, perché dia bagliori,
34 while you have empty visions and consult lying omens-to cut the throats of the wicked, whose doomis approaching to put an end to their crimes.	34 per porla — mentre per te si hanno false visioni, si dànno presagi mendaci — sui colli dei perversi disonorati la cui fine è venuta, al tempo della colpa finale.
35 Put it back in the scabbard. The place where you were created, the land of your origin, wil be where Ijudge you.	35 Riponi la spada nel fodero. Nello stesso luogo dove sei stata procreata, nel tuo paese d’origine, ti punirò.
36 I shal vent my fury on you, breathe the fire of my rage against you and hand you over to barbarousmen whose trade is destruction.	36 Riverserò su di te il mio sdegno, contro di te soffierò nel fuoco del mio furore, ti darò in balia di uomini brutali, artefici di distruzione.
37 You wil be fuel for the fire, your blood wil flow through the country, you wil leave no memory behindyou; for I, Yahweh, have spoken!" '	37 Diverrai preda del fuoco; il tuo sangue sarà sparso per il paese. Nessuno più ti ricorderà, perché io, Jahvè, ho parlato”».
