NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Now, raise a lament for the princes of Israel.	1 Tu innalza una lamentazione sui prìncipi d'Israele.
2 Say: What was your mother? A lioness among lions; lying among the cubs she nursed her whelps.	2 Di': "Che madre è la tua! Leonessa tra i leoni, accovacciata tra i leoncelli, ha allevato i suoi piccoli.
3 She reared one of her whelps: he grew into a young lion; he learnt to tear his prey; he became a man-eater.	3 Ha sollevato uno dei suoi piccoli; è diventato un leoncello. Imparò a cercare la preda, divorò uomini;
4 The nations came to hear of him; he was caught in their pit; they dragged him away with hooks toEgypt.	4 ma le genti emisero un bando contro di lui, fu preso nel loro trabocchetto. Lo condussero in ceppi nella terra d'Egitto.
5 Her expectation thwarted, and seeing her hope dashed, she took another of her whelps and made ayoung lion of him.	5 Quand'essa vide che era andata male, che la sua speranza era perduta, prese un altro piccolo e ne fece un leoncello.
6 He prowled among the lions, he grew into a young lion, he learnt to tear his prey; he became a man-eater.	6 Esso prese a stare tra i leoni, divenne un leoncello. Imparò a ghermire la preda, divorò uomini.
7 He tore down their palaces, he destroyed their cities; the land and al its inhabitants were appal ed bythe sound of his roars.	7 Penetrò nei loro palazzi, devastò le loro città. Il paese ammutolì con i suoi abitanti al rumore del suo ruggito.
8 The nations marched out against him from the surrounding provinces; they spread their net over him;he was caught in their pit.	8 Ma gli si fecero addosso le genti delle province attorno, gli tesero contro la loro rete, fu preso nel loro trabocchetto.
9 They shackled him with hooks, they took him to the king of Babylon and threw him into a fortress, sothat his voice could never again be heard on the mountains of Israel.	9 Lo rinchiusero in ceppi, lo condussero dal re di Babilonia, lo condussero in un luogo inaccessibile, perché non s'udisse più la sua voce sui monti d'Israele.
10 Your mother was like a vine planted beside the water, fruitful and leafy, because the water flowed soful .	10 Tua madre è simile a una vite piantata presso l'acqua: è stata fruttifera e frondosa per l'acqua abbondante.
11 She had stout stems which became kingly sceptres; she grew higher and higher, up into the clouds;she was admired for her height and the number of her branches.	11 Le crebbero rami robusti, ebbe gli scettri dei dominatori, fece svettare la sua altezza tra le nubi e apparve con tutta la sua sublimità nell'abbondanza delle sue foglie.
12 But she was furiously uprooted and thrown on the ground; the east wind dried up her fruit, she wasbroken to pieces; her stout stem dried up, the fire devoured it.	12 Ma fu distrutta con ira, fu atterrata e l'infuocato vento orientale la fece seccare, le caddero i frutti. Si seccò la verga del suo potere, il fuoco l'ha consumata.
13 Now she has been transplanted to the desert, to a dry and thirsty land.	13 Adesso è piantata nel deserto, in terra arida e riarsa.
14 Fire burst out of her stem devouring her branches and fruit. No more stout stem for her, no morekingly sceptre.' This is a lament; it was used as such.	14 E' uscito un fuoco da un'altra verga, ha consumato i suoi rami e i suoi frutti. Non ha più la verga del potere, il bastone del dominio". Questa è una lamentazione; divenne un canto funebre.
