1 This is the text of the book written in Babylon by Baruch son of Neraiah, son of Mahseiah, son ofZedekiah, son of Hasadiah, son of Hilkiah,	1 E queste son le parole del libro scritto da Baruch figliuolo di Neria, figliuolo di Maasia, figliuolo di Sedecia, figliuolo di Sedei, figliuolo di Helcia in Babilonia,
2 in the fifth year, on the seventh day of the month, at the time when the Chaldaeans had capturedJerusalem and burned it down.	2 L'anno quinto ai sette del mese dal tempo, che i Caldei prcser Gerusalemme, e la incendiarono.
3 Baruch read the text of this book aloud to Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and to al thepeople who had come to hear the reading,	3 E lesse Baruch le parole di questo libro dinanzi a Jechonia figliuolo di Joachiin re di Giuda, e davanti a tutto il popolo, che andava a sentirle,
4 to the nobles and the sons of the king, and to the elders; to the whole people, that is, to the least no lessthan to the greatest, to al who lived in Babylon beside the river Sud.	4 E davanti a tutti i grandi, e figliuoli de' regi, e davanti a' seniori, e davanti al popolo dal più piccolo fino al più grande di tutti coloro, che abitavano in Babilonia presso al fiume Sodi.
5 On hearing it they wept, fasted and prayed before the Lord;	5 I quali in ascoltando piangevano, e digiunavano, e facean orazione nel cospetto del Signore.
6 and they col ected as much money as each could afford	6 E fecer colletta di denaro secondo la possibilità di ciascheduno:
7 and sent it to Jerusalem to the priest Jehoiakim son of Hilkiah, son of Shallum, and the other priests,and all the people who were with him in Jerusalem.	7 E lo mandarono a Gerusalemme a Joachim figliuolo di Helcia, figliuolo di Salom sacerdote, ed ai sacerdoti, e a tutto il popolo, che si trovava con lui in Gerusalemme,
8 Also on the tenth day of Sivan he was given the utensils of the house of the Lord, which had beenremoved from the Temple, to take them back to the land of Judah; these were silver utensils which Zedekiah sonof Josiah, king of Judah, had had made	8 Dopoché egli ebbe ricevuto i vasi del tempio del Signore, che erano stati portati via dal tempio per rimandarli nella terra di Giuda a' dieci del mese Sivan, i quali erano i vasi di argento fatti da Sedecia figliuolo di Josia re di Giuda.
9 after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported Jeconiah from Jerusalem to Babylon, together withthe princes, the metalworkers, the nobles and the common people.	9 Dopo che Nabuchodonosor re di Babilonia ebbe fatto prigione Jechonia, e i principi, e tutti i grandi, e il popolo del paese, e legati li condusse da Gerusalemme a Babilonia.
10 Now, they wrote, we are sending you money to pay for burnt offerings, offerings for sin, and incense.Prepare oblations and offer them on the altar of the Lord our God;	10 E scrissero: Ecco che noi vi abbiam mandato del denaro, col quale comperate gli olocausti, e l'incenso, e fatene obblazione, e offerite ostie per lo peccato all'altare del Signore Dio nostro,
11 and pray for the long life of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and of his son Belshazzar, that they mayendure on earth as long as the heavens endure;	11 E pregate per la conservazione di Nabuchodouosor re di Babilonia, e per la conservazione di Balthasar suo figliuolo, affinchè i loro giorni sopra la terra siano come i giorni del cielo,
12 and that the Lord may give us strength and enlighten our eyes, so that we may lead our lives under theprotection of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and of his son Belshazzar, and that we may serve them for a longtime and win their favour.	12 E affinchè il Signore dia a noi fortezza, e dia luce agli occhi nostri, onde all'ombra viviamo di Nabuchodonosor re di Babilonia e all'ombra di Balthasar suo figliuolo, e ad essi serviamo lungamente, e troviamo grazia davanti ad essi.
13 Also pray to the Lord our God for us, because we have sinned against him, and the anger, the fury ofthe Lord, has still not turned away from us.	13 E per noi pure pregate il Signore Dio nostro; perché noi abbiamo peccato contro il Signore Dio nostro, e non si è allontanato il suo furore da noi uno a' questo giorno.
14 Lastly, you must read the booklet which we are sending you, publicly in the house of the Lord on thefeastday and appropriate days.	14 E leggete questo libro, che abbiamo mandato a voi, perché sia recitato nel tempio del Signore in giorno solenne, e in giorno opportuno,
15 You must say: Saving justice is the Lord's, we have only the look of shame we bear, as is the casetoday for the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	15 E voi direte: Al Signore Dio nostro la giustizia, e a noi la confusione del nostro volto, come avviene in questo dì a tutto Giuda, e agli abitanti di Gerusalemme,
16 for our kings and princes, our priests, our prophets, and for our ancestors,	16 A' nostri regi, e a' nostri principi, e a' nostri sacerdoti, e a' nostri profeti, e a' padri nostri:
17 because we have sinned before the Lord,	17 Abbiam peccato dinanzi al Signore Dio nostro, e non abbiamo creduto, non avendo fidanza in lui:
18 have disobeyed him, and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God tel ing us to follow thecommandments which the Lord had ordained for us.	18 E non siamo stati soggetti a lui, e non abbiamo ascoltata la voce del Signore Dio nostro per camminare secondò li suoi precetti, ch'ei diede a noi,
19 From the day when the Lord brought our ancestors out of Egypt until today we have been disobedientto the Lord our God, we have been disloyal, refusing to listen to his voice.	19 Dal giorno, in cui trasse i padri nostri dalla terra di Egitto fino a questa di, noi eravamo increduli al Signore Dio nostro, e imprudentemente ci ritirammo dall'udir la sua voce.
20 And we are not free even today of the disasters and the curse which the Lord pronounced through hisservant Moses the day he brought our ancestors out of Egypt to give us a land flowing with milk and honey.	20 E ci si attaccarono molti mali, e maledzioni predetti dal Signore a Mosè suo servo, il quale condusse dalla terra d'Egitto i padri nostri per dare a noi una terra, che scorrea latte, e miele come oggi apparisce.
21 We have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God in all the words of those prophets he sent us;	21 Mai noi non ascoltammo la voce del Signor Dio nostro, secondo quel, che dicevano i profeti, ch'ei ci mandò:
22 but, each fol owing the dictates of our evil heart, we have taken to serving alien gods, and doing whatis displeasing to the Lord our God.	22 E andammo dietro ognuno di noi alle inclinazioni del cuore nostro malvagio, a servire agli dei stranieri, malecose facendo davanti agli occhi del Signore Dio nostro.
