1 This is the text of the book written in Babylon by Baruch son of Neraiah, son of Mahseiah, son ofZedekiah, son of Hasadiah, son of Hilkiah,	1 Este es el texto del libro que Baruc, hijo de Neriyías, hijo de Maaseías, hijo de Sedecías, hijo de Asadías, hijo de Jilquías, escribió en Babilonia,
2 in the fifth year, on the seventh day of the month, at the time when the Chaldaeans had capturedJerusalem and burned it down.	2 el año quinto, el día siete del mes, en el tiempo en que los caldeos habían tomado e incendiado Jerusalén.
3 Baruch read the text of this book aloud to Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and to al thepeople who had come to hear the reading,	3 Baru leyó el texto de este libro a oídos de Jeconías, hijo de Yoyaquim, rey de Judá, y a oídos de todo el pueblo venido para escuchar el libro;
4 to the nobles and the sons of the king, and to the elders; to the whole people, that is, to the least no lessthan to the greatest, to al who lived in Babylon beside the river Sud.	4 a oídos de las autoridades y de los hijos del rey, a oídos de los ancianos, a oídos del pueblo entero desde el menor al mayor, de todos los que habitaban en Babilonia, a orillas del río Sud.
5 On hearing it they wept, fasted and prayed before the Lord;	5 Todos lloraron, ayunaron y oraron delante del Señor.
6 and they col ected as much money as each could afford	6 Luego reunieron dinero, según las posibilidades de cada uno,
7 and sent it to Jerusalem to the priest Jehoiakim son of Hilkiah, son of Shallum, and the other priests,and all the people who were with him in Jerusalem.	7 y lo enviaron a Jerusalén, al sacerdote Joaquín, hijo de Jilquías, hijo de Salom, a los demás sacerdotes y a todo el pueblo que se encontraba con él en Jerusalén.
8 Also on the tenth day of Sivan he was given the utensils of the house of the Lord, which had beenremoved from the Temple, to take them back to the land of Judah; these were silver utensils which Zedekiah sonof Josiah, king of Judah, had had made	8 Y a Baruc, el día diez del mes de Siván, había tomado los objetos sagrados de la Casa del Señor que habían sido llevados del Templo, con ánimo de volverlos a llevar a la tierra de Judá; objetos de plata mandados hacer por Sedecías, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá,
9 after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported Jeconiah from Jerusalem to Babylon, together withthe princes, the metalworkers, the nobles and the common people.	9 después que Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, deportó de Jerusalén a Jeconías, a los príncipes, a los cerrajeros, a las autoridades y al pueblo de la tierra, llevándolos a Babilonia.
10 Now, they wrote, we are sending you money to pay for burnt offerings, offerings for sin, and incense.Prepare oblations and offer them on the altar of the Lord our God;	10 Se les decía: Ahí os enviamos dinero; comprad con él holocaustos, sacrificios por el pecado e incienso; haced oblaciones y ofrendas sobre el altar del Señor Dios nuestro.
11 and pray for the long life of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and of his son Belshazzar, that they mayendure on earth as long as the heavens endure;	11 Rogad por la vida de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y por la vida de su hijo Baltasar, para que sean sus días como los días del cielo sobre la tierra.
12 and that the Lord may give us strength and enlighten our eyes, so that we may lead our lives under theprotection of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and of his son Belshazzar, and that we may serve them for a longtime and win their favour.	12 El Señor nos dará fuerzas e iluminará nuestros ojos para vivir a la sombra de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y a la sombra de su hijo Baltasar; les serviremos largos días y hallaremos gracia a sus ojos.
13 Also pray to the Lord our God for us, because we have sinned against him, and the anger, the fury ofthe Lord, has still not turned away from us.	13 Rogad también por nosotros al Señor Dios nuestro, porque hemos pecado contra el Señor Dios nuestro, y todavía hoy no se ha retirado de nosotros el furor y la ira del Señor.
14 Lastly, you must read the booklet which we are sending you, publicly in the house of the Lord on thefeastday and appropriate days.	14 Y leed este libro que os mandamos para que hagáis lectura pública en la Casa del Señor, el día de la fiesta y en días oportunos.
15 You must say: Saving justice is the Lord's, we have only the look of shame we bear, as is the casetoday for the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	15 Diréis: Al Señor Dios nuestro la justicia, a nosotros, en cambio, la confusión del rostro, como sucede en este día; a los hombres de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén,
16 for our kings and princes, our priests, our prophets, and for our ancestors,	16 a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros sacerdotes, a nuestros profetas y a nuestros padres.
17 because we have sinned before the Lord,	17 Porque hemos pecado ante el Señor,
18 have disobeyed him, and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God tel ing us to follow thecommandments which the Lord had ordained for us.	18 le hemos desobedecido y no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor Dios nuestro siguiendo las órdenes que el Señor nos había puesto delante.
19 From the day when the Lord brought our ancestors out of Egypt until today we have been disobedientto the Lord our God, we have been disloyal, refusing to listen to his voice.	19 Desde el día en que el Señor sacó a nuestros padres del país de Egipto hasta el día de hoy hemos sido indóciles al Señor Dios nuestro y prestos en desoír su voz.
20 And we are not free even today of the disasters and the curse which the Lord pronounced through hisservant Moses the day he brought our ancestors out of Egypt to give us a land flowing with milk and honey.	20 Por esto se nos han pegado los males y la maldición con que el Señor conminó a su siervo Moisés el día que sacó a nuestros padres del país de Egipto para darnos una tierra que mana leche y miel, como sucede en este día.
21 We have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God in all the words of those prophets he sent us;	21 Nosotros no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor Dios nuestro de acuerdo con todas las palabras de los profetas que nos ha enviado,
22 but, each fol owing the dictates of our evil heart, we have taken to serving alien gods, and doing whatis displeasing to the Lord our God.	22 sino que hemos sido, cada uno de nosotros según el capricho de su perverso corazón, a servir a dioses extraños, a hacer lo malo a los ojos del Señor Dios nuestro.
