1 This is the text of the book written in Babylon by Baruch son of Neraiah, son of Mahseiah, son ofZedekiah, son of Hasadiah, son of Hilkiah,	1 και ουτοι οι λογοι του βιβλιου ους εγραψεν βαρουχ υιος νηριου υιου μαασαιου υιου σεδεκιου υιου ασαδιου υιου χελκιου εν βαβυλωνι
2 in the fifth year, on the seventh day of the month, at the time when the Chaldaeans had capturedJerusalem and burned it down.	2 εν τω ετει τω πεμπτω εν εβδομη του μηνος εν τω καιρω ω ελαβον οι χαλδαιοι την ιερουσαλημ και ενεπρησαν αυτην εν πυρι
3 Baruch read the text of this book aloud to Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and to al thepeople who had come to hear the reading,	3 και ανεγνω βαρουχ τους λογους του βιβλιου τουτου εν ωσιν ιεχονιου υιου ιωακιμ βασιλεως ιουδα και εν ωσι παντος του λαου των ερχομενων προς την βιβλον
4 to the nobles and the sons of the king, and to the elders; to the whole people, that is, to the least no lessthan to the greatest, to al who lived in Babylon beside the river Sud.	4 και εν ωσιν των δυνατων και υιων των βασιλεων και εν ωσι των πρεσβυτερων και εν ωσι παντος του λαου απο μικρου εως μεγαλου παντων των κατοικουντων εν βαβυλωνι επι ποταμου σουδ
5 On hearing it they wept, fasted and prayed before the Lord;	5 και εκλαιον και ενηστευον και ηυχοντο εναντιον κυριου
6 and they col ected as much money as each could afford	6 και συνηγαγον αργυριον καθα εκαστου ηδυνατο η χειρ
7 and sent it to Jerusalem to the priest Jehoiakim son of Hilkiah, son of Shallum, and the other priests,and all the people who were with him in Jerusalem.	7 και απεστειλαν εις ιερουσαλημ προς ιωακιμ υιον χελκιου υιου σαλωμ τον ιερεα και προς τους ιερεις και προς παντα τον λαον τους ευρεθεντας μετ' αυτου εν ιερουσαλημ
8 Also on the tenth day of Sivan he was given the utensils of the house of the Lord, which had beenremoved from the Temple, to take them back to the land of Judah; these were silver utensils which Zedekiah sonof Josiah, king of Judah, had had made	8 εν τω λαβειν αυτον τα σκευη οικου κυριου τα εξενεχθεντα εκ του ναου αποστρεψαι εις γην ιουδα τη δεκατη του σιουαν σκευη αργυρα α εποιησεν σεδεκιας υιος ιωσια βασιλευς ιουδα
9 after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported Jeconiah from Jerusalem to Babylon, together withthe princes, the metalworkers, the nobles and the common people.	9 μετα το αποικισαι ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλεα βαβυλωνος τον ιεχονιαν και τους αρχοντας και τους δεσμωτας και τους δυνατους και τον λαον της γης απο ιερουσαλημ και ηγαγεν αυτον εις βαβυλωνα
10 Now, they wrote, we are sending you money to pay for burnt offerings, offerings for sin, and incense.Prepare oblations and offer them on the altar of the Lord our God;	10 και ειπαν ιδου απεστειλαμεν προς υμας αργυριον και αγορασατε του αργυριου ολοκαυτωματα και περι αμαρτιας και λιβανον και ποιησατε μαννα και ανοισατε επι το θυσιαστηριον κυριου θεου ημων
11 and pray for the long life of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and of his son Belshazzar, that they mayendure on earth as long as the heavens endure;	11 και προσευξασθε περι της ζωης ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλεως βαβυλωνος και εις ζωην βαλτασαρ υιου αυτου ινα ωσιν αι ημεραι αυτων ως αι ημεραι του ουρανου επι της γης
12 and that the Lord may give us strength and enlighten our eyes, so that we may lead our lives under theprotection of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and of his son Belshazzar, and that we may serve them for a longtime and win their favour.	12 και δωσει κυριος ισχυν ημιν και φωτισει τους οφθαλμους ημων και ζησομεθα υπο την σκιαν ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλεως βαβυλωνος και υπο την σκιαν βαλτασαρ υιου αυτου και δουλευσομεν αυτοις ημερας πολλας και ευρησομεν χαριν εναντιον αυτων
13 Also pray to the Lord our God for us, because we have sinned against him, and the anger, the fury ofthe Lord, has still not turned away from us.	13 και προσευξασθε περι ημων προς κυριον τον θεον ημων οτι ημαρτομεν τω κυριω θεω ημων και ουκ απεστρεψεν ο θυμος κυριου και η οργη αυτου αφ' ημων εως της ημερας ταυτης
14 Lastly, you must read the booklet which we are sending you, publicly in the house of the Lord on thefeastday and appropriate days.	14 και αναγνωσεσθε το βιβλιον τουτο ο απεστειλαμεν προς υμας εξαγορευσαι εν οικω κυριου εν ημερα εορτης και εν ημεραις καιρου
15 You must say: Saving justice is the Lord's, we have only the look of shame we bear, as is the casetoday for the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	15 και ερειτε τω κυριω θεω ημων η δικαιοσυνη ημιν δε αισχυνη των προσωπων ως η ημερα αυτη ανθρωπω ιουδα και τοις κατοικουσιν ιερουσαλημ
16 for our kings and princes, our priests, our prophets, and for our ancestors,	16 και τοις βασιλευσιν ημων και τοις αρχουσιν ημων και τοις ιερευσιν ημων και τοις προφηταις ημων και τοις πατρασιν ημων
17 because we have sinned before the Lord,	17 ων ημαρτομεν εναντι κυριου
18 have disobeyed him, and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God tel ing us to follow thecommandments which the Lord had ordained for us.	18 και ηπειθησαμεν αυτω και ουκ ηκουσαμεν της φωνης κυριου θεου ημων πορευεσθαι τοις προσταγμασιν κυριου οις εδωκεν κατα προσωπον ημων
19 From the day when the Lord brought our ancestors out of Egypt until today we have been disobedientto the Lord our God, we have been disloyal, refusing to listen to his voice.	19 απο της ημερας ης εξηγαγεν κυριος τους πατερας ημων εκ γης αιγυπτου και εως της ημερας ταυτης ημεθα απειθουντες προς κυριον θεον ημων και εσχεδιαζομεν προς το μη ακουειν της φωνης αυτου
20 And we are not free even today of the disasters and the curse which the Lord pronounced through hisservant Moses the day he brought our ancestors out of Egypt to give us a land flowing with milk and honey.	20 και εκολληθη εις ημας τα κακα και η αρα ην συνεταξεν κυριος τω μωυση παιδι αυτου εν ημερα η εξηγαγεν τους πατερας ημων εκ γης αιγυπτου δουναι ημιν γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι ως η ημερα αυτη
21 We have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God in all the words of those prophets he sent us;	21 και ουκ ηκουσαμεν της φωνης κυριου του θεου ημων κατα παντας τους λογους των προφητων ων απεστειλεν προς ημας
22 but, each fol owing the dictates of our evil heart, we have taken to serving alien gods, and doing whatis displeasing to the Lord our God.	22 και ωχομεθα εκαστος εν διανοια καρδιας αυτου της πονηρας εργαζεσθαι θεοις ετεροις ποιησαι τα κακα κατ' οφθαλμους κυριου θεου ημων
