1 On Moab. Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Wretched Nebo, for it has been ravaged, Kiriathaim hasbeen shamed and taken, shame and distraction on the citadel,	1 Contro Moab. Così parla il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: « Guai a Nabo: è devastata, è coperta di vergogna Cariataim ed è espugnata, la fortezza è coperta di vergogna e trema.
2 the pride of Moab is no more! At Heshbon they plotted her downfal , 'Come, let us put an end to her asa nation!' And you too, inhabitants of Madmen, wil be silenced, the sword wil be after you.	2 Non c'è più allegrezza in Moab. Han fatto dei cattivi disegni contro Esebon: venite e sterminiamola dalle nazioni: dunque sarai ridotta al silenzio, e la spada ti sarà alle spalle.
3 A cry of agony goes up from Horonaim, 'Devastation! Dire calamity.	3 Alti gridi da Oronaim: distruzione e grande strage.
4 Moab has been shattered,' the agonised cries of her little ones ring out.	4 Moab è abbattuta: annunziatene il grido ai suoi pargoletti.
5 Up the slope of Luhith, weeping they go. On the road down to Horonaim is heard the shriek of disaster,	5 Per la salita di Luit (vi sono) piangenti, vi salgon piangendo: per la discesa di Oronaim i nemici stanno a sentire le urla della strage.
6 'Away! Flee for your lives like the wild donkey into the desert!'	6 Fuggite, salvate la vostra vita, e siate come il tamarisco nel deserto.
7 Yes, since you relied on your deeds and your wealth, you wil be captured too. Chemosh wil go intoexile, with al his priests and princes.	7 Perchè tu hai posta la tua fiducia nelle tue fortezze e nei tuoi tesori, tu pure sarai presa, e Camos andrà in esilio insieme ai suoi sacerdoti e ai suoi principi.
8 The despoiler wil descend on every town, not one will escape; the Valley wil be ravaged, the Plain beplundered as Yahweh has said.	8 Il saccheggiatore verrà ad ogni città, nessuna città potrà scampare, e saran desolate le valli e rovinate lo campagne: il Signore l'ha detto,
9 Give Moab wings so that she can fly away, for her towns wil be laid in ruins where no one wil ever liveagain.	9 date fiori a Moab, che parta fiorito: le sue città saran deserte, inabitabili.
10 (Accursed be he who does Yahweh's work negligently! Accursed be he who deprives his sword ofblood!)	10 Maledetto chi fa con negligenza l'opera del Signore, maledetto chi rattiene la sua spada dal sangue.
11 From his youth Moab lived at ease, he settled on his lees, never having been decanted, never havinggone into exile: and so he kept his own flavour, his aroma was unchanged.	11 Moab fu fertile fin dalla sua adolescenza e riposò sui suoi fondi, non fu fatto passare da un vaso all'altro, non andò in esilio, per questo gli è restato il suo sapore, e il suo profumo non si è alterato.
12 And so the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shal send him decanters to decant him; theywil empty his pitchers and break his wine jars to bits.	12 Ecco però che viene il tempo — dice il Signore — in cui io gli manderò chi mette in ordine e piega i vasi, e lo piegheranno e voteranno i suoi vasi, e poi i suoi vasi li ridurranno in pezzi.
13 Moab wil be shamed by Chemosh then, as the House of Israel was shamed by Bethel in which theyput their trust.	13 E Moab sarà svergognato a causa di Camos, come la casa di Israele è stata svergognata a causa di Betel in cui nutriva fiducia.
14 How can you say, 'We are heroes, sturdy fighting men'?	14 Come fate a dire: « Noi siam forti e valorosi nelle battaglie? »
15 Moab has been ravaged, his cities scaled, the flower of his youth goes down to the slaughter,declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	15 Moab è devastato, le sue città sono andate in fumo, la sua migliore gioventù è scesa al macello — dice il re che si chiama il Signore degli eserciti.
16 Moab's ruin is coming soon, his downfal comes at top speed.	16 La rovina di Moab è imminente, la sua sventura con somma velocità accorre.
17 Grieve for him, all you living near him, all you who knew his name. Say, 'How shattered it is, thatmighty rod, that splendid sceptre!'	17 Consolatelo voi tutti, o suoi vicini, voi tutti che lo conoscete a nome, dite: « Come è stata spezzata la verga forte, lo scettro glorioso? »
18 Come down from your glory, sit on the parched ground, daughter of Dibon, for the despoiler of Moabhas advanced on you, he has destroyed your strongholds.	18 Discendi dalla gloria, siedi in arida landa, o figlia abitatrice di Dibon, perchè il distruttore di Moab sale contro di te, e abbatterà le tue fortezze.
19 Stand by the roadside, keep watch, daughter of Aroer. Question fugitive and runaway, ask, 'What hashappened?'	19 Sta sulla strada e osserva, o abitatrice d'Aroer, interroga chi fugge, chi l'ha scampata, di': « Che è avvenuto? »
20 'Moab has been shattered and shamed. Wail and shriek! Shout along the Arnon, Moab has been laidwaste!'	20 « Moab è confuso, perchè è stato vinto ». Urlate, alzate le strida, annunziatelo lungo l'Arnon, che Moab è devastato.
21 Judgement has also come on the Plain, on Holon, Jahzah, Mephaath,	21 Il giudizio è venuto sulla terra del piano, su Helon, su Iasa, su Mefaat,

25 Moab's horn has been cut off, his arm is broken, Yahweh declares.	25 Il corno di Moab è abbattuto, il suo braccio è spezzato — dice il Signore. —
26 Make him drunk! He has set himself up against Yahweh; let Moab wal ow in his vomit and become alaughing-stock in his turn.	26 Ubriacatelo, perchè s'è innalzato contro il Signore, e Moab sbatterà le mani nel vomitare, e sarà anche lui oggetto di riso.
27 Was Israel not a laughing-stock to you? Was he caught red-handed with the thieves, for you to shakeyour head whenever you mention him?	27 Tu hai schernito Israele, come se l'avessi trovato in compagnia di ladri; or dunque per le tue parole che hai dette contro di lui sarai condotto in schiavitù.
28 Leave the towns, make the rocks your home, inhabitants of Moab. Learn from the dove that makes itsnest in the wal s of the gaping gorge.	28 Abbandonate le città, ritiratevi sulle rocce, o abitatori di Moab, e siate come la colomba che fa il nido nella più alta buca delle rupi.
29 We have heard about Moab's pride, so very proud! What arrogance! What pride! What conceit! Whata haughty heart!	29 Abbiamo sentito parlare della superbia di di Moab, — è oltremodo orgoglioso — della sua alterigia, della sua arroganza, della superbia e dell'alterigia del suo cuore.
30 -I know al about his presumption, Yahweh declares, his empty boasting, those empty deeds of his!	30 Ben conosco — dice il Signore — la sua millanteria, a cui non risponde il suo valore, e che non ha tentato di fare nemmeno quanto ha potuto.
31 -and so I lament for Moab, for al Moab I raise my cry and mourn for the people of Kir-Heres.	31 Per questo io alzerò le strida sopra Moab, a tutto Moab farò sentire i miei urli, agli uomini delle mura di mattone che sono in duolo.
32 More than for Jazer I weep for you, vineyard of Sibmah: your shoots stretched beyond the sea, they reached al the way to Jazer. On your harvest and vintage the despoiler has descended.	32 Come ho pianto Iazer, così piangerò te, o vigna di Sebama: le tue propaggini hanno passato il mare, sono arrivate fino al mare di Iazer: sopra la tua messe e sopra la tua vendemmia si è gettato il saccheggiatore.
33 Gladness and joy have vanished from the orchards of Moab. I have dried up the wine in the presses,the treader of grapes treads no more, the joyful shouting has ceased.	33 La gioia e l'allegrezza sono sparite dal Carmelo e dalla terra di Moab: ho tolto il vino dagli strettoi, non più chi pigia le uve canterà l'usata canzone.
34 The cries of Heshbon and Elealeh can be heard as far as Jahaz. The shrieks resound from Zoar toHoronaim and Eglath-Shelishiyah, for even the Waters of Nimrim have become a wasteland.	34 A causa degli urli di Esebon, fino ad Eleale, fino a Iasa fecero sentire i loro gridi, fino a Segor, fino ad Oronaim, vitella di tre anni, anche le acque di Nemrim, saranno pessime.

37 Yes, every head is shaved, every beard cut off, gashes are on every hand, sackcloth round everywaist.	37 Ogni testa sarà calva, ogni barba sarà rasa, in tutte le mani ci saran fasciature, sopra ogni dorso il cilizio.
38 On al the housetops of Moab and in al its squares there is nothing but lamenting, for I have brokenMoab like an unwanted pot, Yahweh declares.	38 Sopra tutti i tetti di Moab e sulle sue piazze non ci saran che gemiti, perchè ho infranto Moab come inutile vaso — dice il Signore.
39 How shattered he is! Wail! Moab so shameful y in retreat! Moab has become a laughing-stock, a thingof horror to al his neighbours.	39 Come mai è stato vinto cd urla? Come mai ha abbassato il capo Moab, ed è confuso? Moab sarà di scherno e di esempio per tutti i suoi vicini.
40 For Yahweh says this: (Look, like an eagle, he wil hover, spreading his wings over Moab.)	40 Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco volerà come aquila, e stenderà le sue ali sopra Moab:
41 The towns have been captured, the strongholds seized. (And the heart of Moab's warriors, that day,wil be like that of a woman in labour pains.)	41 Cariot è presa, le sue fortezze sono espugnate: il cuore dei forti di Moab sarà in quel giorno come il cuore d'una donna partoriente.
42 Moab wil be destroyed, no longer a people, for setting itself up against Yahweh.	42 Moab cesserà d'essere un popolo, perchè si è gloriato contro il Signore.
43 Terror, the pit and the snare for you, inhabitant of Moab, Yahweh declares.	43 Lo spavento, la fossa, il laccio sopra te, o abitante Il Moab — dice il Signore. — ;
44 And anyone who escapes from terror wil fal into the pit, and anyone who climbs out of the pit wil becaught in the snare. Yes, I shall bring all this on Moab when the year comes for punishing them, Yahwehdeclares.	44 Chi fuggirà dallo spavento ca drà nella fossa, chi potrà risalire dalla fossa sarà preso al laccio; perchè io farò venire sopra Moab l'anno del suo castigo — dice il Signore.
45 In the shelter of Heshbon the fugitives have paused, exhausted. But fire wil burst from Heshbon, aflame from the palace of Sihon, consuming the brows of Moab, the head of a turbulent brood.	45 Si riposarono all'ombra di Esebon quelli fuggiti dal laccio, ma da Esebon è uscito un fuoco, una fiamma di mezzo a Seon, e divorerà una parte di Moab, la sommità dei figli del tumulto.
46 Disaster for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh are lost! For your sons have been taken into exileand your daughters into captivity.	46 Guai a te, o Moab, sei andato in rovina, o popolo di Camos, perchè i tuoi figli son presi, e le tue figlie, per ìa schiavitù.
47 But I shal bring back Moab's captives in the final days, Yahweh declares. Thus far the judgement onMoab.	47 Ma io farò ritornare i prigionieri di Moab negli ultimi giorni — dice il Signore. Fin qui il giudizio di Moab ».
