Jeremiah 48

1 On Moab. Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Wretched Nebo, for it has been ravaged, Kiriathaim hasbeen shamed and taken, shame and distraction on the citadel,	1 - A MOAB. - Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: «Sventurata Nabo perchè è stata devastata e avvilita; Cariataim è stata presa, la forte si è trovata avvilita e ha tremato.
2 the pride of Moab is no more! At Heshbon they plotted her downfal , 'Come, let us put an end to her asa nation!' And you too, inhabitants of Madmen, wil be silenced, the sword wil be after you.	2 Non c'è più esultanza in Moab; contro Hesebon hanno congiurato al danno: venite e cancelliamola d'infra le nazioni; e così, caduta nel silenzio, tacerai, e verrà dietro a rincorrerti la spada.
3 A cry of agony goes up from Horonaim, 'Devastation! Dire calamity.	3 Un urlo rimbombante da Oronaim, devastazione e grande rovina.
4 Moab has been shattered,' the agonised cries of her little ones ring out.	4 Moab è stata rovinata, fate sentire lo strido ai suoi parvoli.
5 Up the slope of Luhith, weeping they go. On the road down to Horonaim is heard the shriek of disaster,	5 Perchè, per la salita di Luit, lamentosamente piangendo salirà; i nemici dalla discesa di Oronaim ne hanno ascoltato le urla strazianti.
6 'Away! Flee for your lives like the wild donkey into the desert!'	6 Fuggite e mettetevi in salvo, e siate come i tamarischi nel deserto.
7 Yes, since you relied on your deeds and your wealth, you wil be captured too. Chemosh wil go intoexile, with al his priests and princes.	7 Per ciò che hai riposta la tua fiducia nelle tue opere di difesa e nei tuoi tesori, sarai anche tu presa; e Camos se ne andrà in schiavitù, coi suoi sacerdoti e coi suoi principi insieme.
8 The despoiler wil descend on every town, not one will escape; the Valley wil be ravaged, the Plain beplundered as Yahweh has said.	8 E piomberà addosso ad ogni città il predone, nessuna città sfuggirà; e saranno guastate le valli, e le campagne saran messe a soqquadro, perchè il Signore l'ha detto.
9 Give Moab wings so that she can fly away, for her towns wil be laid in ruins where no one wil ever liveagain.	9 Concedete il fiore di Moab affinchè fiorendo esca, e le sue città rimangano incolte e disabitate!
10 (Accursed be he who does Yahweh's work negligently! Accursed be he who deprives his sword ofblood!)	10 Maledetto chi eseguisce l'opera di Dio infedelmente, e maledetto chi vieta alla spada il sangue.
11 From his youth Moab lived at ease, he settled on his lees, never having been decanted, never havinggone into exile: and so he kept his own flavour, his aroma was unchanged.	11 Moab è stato nella fertilità fin dalla sua giovinezza, fu lasciato posare sulle sue fecce; non è stato travasato da un recipiente ad un altro e non fu esportato; quindi il suo sapore l'ha conservato e il suo profumo non l'ha mutato.
12 And so the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shal send him decanters to decant him; theywil empty his pitchers and break his wine jars to bits.	12 Ma ecco che il tempo viene, dice il Signore, ed io gli manderò gente pratica ad acconciare ed aggiustare recipienti [da vino], e lo aggiusteranno ben bene, vuoteranno i suoi recipienti e manderanno in frantumi tutti i suoi vasi.
13 Moab wil be shamed by Chemosh then, as the House of Israel was shamed by Bethel in which theyput their trust.	13 E Moab, da Camos, raccoglierà confusione, come da Betel, la casa di Israele in cui riponeva la sua confidenza.
14 How can you say, 'We are heroes, sturdy fighting men'?	14 Come dite: - Noi siamo valorosi, gente agguerrita alla battaglia?-
15 Moab has been ravaged, his cities scaled, the flower of his youth goes down to the slaughter,declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	15 E intanto Moab è stato devastato, hanno dato le sue città in pasto al fuoco, il meglio della sua gioventù fu trascinato al macello, dice il re di cui il nome è il Signore degli eserciti.
16 Moab's ruin is coming soon, his downfal comes at top speed.	16 La rovina di Moab è prossima a venire e la sua sciagura gli piomberà addosso molto presto.
17 Grieve for him, all you living near him, all you who knew his name. Say, 'How shattered it is, thatmighty rod, that splendid sceptre!'	17 Consolatelo, voi tutti suoi circonvicini, voi tutti ai quali è familiare il suo nome, dite: - O come fu spezzato lo scettro potente, il bastone famoso.-
18 Come down from your glory, sit on the parched ground, daughter of Dibon, for the despoiler of Moabhas advanced on you, he has destroyed your strongholds.	18 Scendi dalla gloria e giaci sull'arsa terra, abitatrice figlia di Dibon, perchè il guastatore di Moab è salito a te e ha smantellato le tue fortificazioni.
19 Stand by the roadside, keep watch, daughter of Aroer. Question fugitive and runaway, ask, 'What hashappened?'	19 Appòstati sul cammino e sta' in vedetta, abitatrice di Aroer; interroga il fuggiasco e chi è scampato, domanda: - Che è accaduto? -
20 'Moab has been shattered and shamed. Wail and shriek! Shout along the Arnon, Moab has been laidwaste!'	20 Moab è coperto di confusione, perchè è stato vinto! Urlate e stridete, annunziate sull'Arnon che Moab è stato devastato.
21 Judgement has also come on the Plain, on Holon, Jahzah, Mephaath,	21 Il giudizio è venuto sulla campestre contrada, su Elon, e su Jasa, e su Mefaat,
22 Dibon, Nebo, Beth-Diblathaim,	22 e su Dibon, su Nabo e sulla casa di Deblataim,
23 Kiriathaim, Beth-Gamul, Beth-Meon,	23 e su Cariataim, e su Betgamul, e su Betmaon,
24 Kerioth, Bozrah, and al the towns of Moab, far and near.	24 e su Cariot e su Bosra, e su tutte le città del paese di Moab quelle lontane e quelle vicine.
25 Moab's horn has been cut off, his arm is broken, Yahweh declares.	25 Il corno di Moab è stato reciso, e il suo braccio infranto, dice il Signore.
26 Make him drunk! He has set himself up against Yahweh; let Moab wal ow in his vomit and become alaughing-stock in his turn.	26 Assapori fino all'ebrezza, perchè si è rizzato contro il Signore; Moab dibatta le mani entro al suo vomito, e caschi in derisione anch'esso.
27 Was Israel not a laughing-stock to you? Was he caught red-handed with the thieves, for you to shakeyour head whenever you mention him?	27 Perchè anche Israele fu da te preso in derisione, come se fosse stato sorpreso coi ladri; per motivo dunque delle parole che hai dette contro di lui, sarai condotto in esilio.
28 Leave the towns, make the rocks your home, inhabitants of Moab. Learn from the dove that makes itsnest in the wal s of the gaping gorge.	28 Abbandonate le città e cercate un asilo sulle rocce, o abitanti di Moab; state, come colomba annidata sull'alto orlo del suo cavo.
29 We have heard about Moab's pride, so very proud! What arrogance! What pride! What conceit! Whata haughty heart!	29 L'orgoglio di Moab lo conosciamo per fama: è orgogliosissimo, la sua alterigia, l'arroganza, la superbia e la presunzione del suo cuore.
30 -I know al about his presumption, Yahweh declares, his empty boasting, those empty deeds of his!	30 Io conosco, dice il Signore, la sua iattanza e che il potere non va di pari, e che la sua forza è stata impari allo sforzo.
31 -and so I lament for Moab, for al Moab I raise my cry and mourn for the people of Kir-Heres.	31 Perciò io striderò sopra Moab, griderò a Moab tutta quanta, alle genti del muro di mattoni, le mie lamentazioni.
32 More than for Jazer I weep for you, vineyard of Sibmah: your shoots stretched beyond the sea, they reached al the way to Jazer. On your harvest and vintage the despoiler has descended.	32 al pianto di Jazer piangerò per te, o vigneto di Sabama; i tuoi tralci avevano oltrepassato il mare, erano giunti fino al mare di Jazer, sopra la tua raccolta e la tua vendemmia piombò il predone.
33 Gladness and joy have vanished from the orchards of Moab. I have dried up the wine in the presses,the treader of grapes treads no more, the joyful shouting has ceased.	33 È stata tolta l'allegria e la letizia dal Carmelo e dalla terra di Moab, ho tolto il vino agli strettoi, il pigiatore d'uva non canterà mai più il ritornello della solita canzone.
34 The cries of Heshbon and Elealeh can be heard as far as Jahaz. The shrieks resound from Zoar toHoronaim and Eglath-Shelishiyah, for even the Waters of Nimrim have become a wasteland.	34 Al clamore di Hebeson, fino ad Eleale e Jasa hanno alzato le loro voci, da Segor, dalla vitella trienne, fino a Oronaim: anche le acque di Nemrim saranno tristissime.
35 And in Moab I shal make an end, Yahweh declares, of anyone offering sacrifice on the high placesand anyone offering incense to his gods.	35 E toglierò a Moab, dice il Signore, chi recava le offerte alle eccelse are e chi arde sacrifizi ai suoi dèi.
36 That is why my heart sobs like a flute for Moab, sobs like a flute for the people of Kir-Heres, since thewealth he had acquired is lost.	36 Perciò il mio cuore, sopra la sorte di Moab, gemerà come flauto; sulla sorte delle genti del Muro di mattoni il mio cuore manderà gemiti, come le tibie; ha voluto fare più che non poteva, e perciò andarono alla rovina.
37 Yes, every head is shaved, every beard cut off, gashes are on every hand, sackcloth round everywaist.	37 Ogni testa sarà scalvata, e ogni barba tagliata, in tutte le mani fasciatura, su tutti i dorsi veste di sacco.
38 On al the housetops of Moab and in al its squares there is nothing but lamenting, for I have brokenMoab like an unwanted pot, Yahweh declares.	38 Sulle terrazze di Moab e per le piazze, tutto pianto: perchè io ho infranto Moab, come un vaso inutile, dice il Signore.
39 How shattered he is! Wail! Moab so shameful y in retreat! Moab has become a laughing-stock, a thingof horror to al his neighbours.	39 Com'è stato disfatto e come hanno urlato! Come ha dimesso la cervice Moab ed è stato confuso! E Moab sarà in derisione, in esempio e tutti i suoi circonvicini».
40 For Yahweh says this: (Look, like an eagle, he wil hover, spreading his wings over Moab.)	40 Così dice il Signore: «Ecco che spicca il volo come un'aquila e spanderà le sue ali sopra Moab.
41 The towns have been captured, the strongholds seized. (And the heart of Moab's warriors, that day,wil be like that of a woman in labour pains.)	41 Cariot è stata presa, le sue fortezze espugnate, e il cuore dei prodi di Moab sarà in quel giorno come il cuore d'una donna sopra parto!
42 Moab wil be destroyed, no longer a people, for setting itself up against Yahweh.	42 E Moab cesserà d'essere un popolo, perchè ha fatto il superbo contro il Signore!
43 Terror, the pit and the snare for you, inhabitant of Moab, Yahweh declares.	43 Lo spavento e la fossa ed il laccio ti sovrastano, o abitatore di Moab, dice il Signore.
44 And anyone who escapes from terror wil fal into the pit, and anyone who climbs out of the pit wil becaught in the snare. Yes, I shall bring all this on Moab when the year comes for punishing them, Yahwehdeclares.	44 Chi sfuggirà davanti allo spavento cascherà nella fossa, e chi sfuggirà dalla fossa incapperà nel laccio, perchè farò venire sopra Moab l'anno della loro visita, dice il Signore.
45 In the shelter of Heshbon the fugitives have paused, exhausted. But fire wil burst from Heshbon, aflame from the palace of Sihon, consuming the brows of Moab, the head of a turbulent brood.	45 All'ombra di Hesebon si fermarono quei che eran fuggiti al laccio, perchè un fuoco uscì da Hesebone una fiamma da Seone divorerà l'estremo lembo di Moabe l'ultima vetta dei figli del tumulto.
46 Disaster for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh are lost! For your sons have been taken into exileand your daughters into captivity.	46 Guai a te, o Moab, sei perduto, o popolo di Camos; perchè sono stati portati via i tuoi figlie le tue figlie in ischiavitù.
47 But I shal bring back Moab's captives in the final days, Yahweh declares. Thus far the judgement onMoab.	47 Ma farò ritornare gli esiliati di Moab dalla schiavitù in su gli ultimi giorni», dice il Signore. Fin qui il giudizio contro Moab.
