Jeremiah 48

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 On Moab. Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Wretched Nebo, for it has been ravaged, Kiriathaim hasbeen shamed and taken, shame and distraction on the citadel,	1 Riguardo a Moab, così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: "Guai a Nebo perché è saccheggiata, vergognosamente è presa Kiriatàim: è svergognata la roccaforte e spaventata.
2 the pride of Moab is no more! At Heshbon they plotted her downfal , 'Come, let us put an end to her asa nation!' And you too, inhabitants of Madmen, wil be silenced, the sword wil be after you.	2 Non c'è più la gloria di Moab: in Chesbòn han programmato contro di essa sventura: venite e distruggiamola, che non sia più nazione. Anche tu, Madmèn, tacerai, dietro te cammina la spada.
3 A cry of agony goes up from Horonaim, 'Devastation! Dire calamity.	3 Voce di grida da Coronàim, devastazione e rovina grande!
4 Moab has been shattered,' the agonised cries of her little ones ring out.	4 Spezzata è Moab: fan sentire il grido i suoi piccoli.
5 Up the slope of Luhith, weeping they go. On the road down to Horonaim is heard the shriek of disaster,	5 Sì, la salita di Luchìt nel pianto si ascende e nella discesa di Coronàim grida di rovina si odono!
6 'Away! Flee for your lives like the wild donkey into the desert!'	6 Fuggite, scampate la vostra vita e siate come asino selvatico nel deserto.
7 Yes, since you relied on your deeds and your wealth, you wil be captured too. Chemosh wil go intoexile, with al his priests and princes.	7 Sì, perché hai posto la tua fiducia nelle tue opere e nei tuoi tesori, anche tu sarai presa e andrà Camos in esilio, insieme ai suoi sacerdoti e ai suoi prìncipi.
8 The despoiler wil descend on every town, not one will escape; the Valley wil be ravaged, the Plain beplundered as Yahweh has said.	8 Verrà il devastatore contro ogni città, nessuna città scamperà: perirà la valle, sarà distrutto l'altipiano, come ha detto il Signore.
9 Give Moab wings so that she can fly away, for her towns wil be laid in ruins where no one wil ever liveagain.	9 Erigete un cippo a Moab perché a fondo è devastata: le sue città a desolazione son ridotte, prive dei loro abitanti.
10 (Accursed be he who does Yahweh's work negligently! Accursed be he who deprives his sword ofblood!)	10 Maledetto chi esegue l'opera del Signore fiaccamente e maledetto chi trattiene la sua spada dal sangue!
11 From his youth Moab lived at ease, he settled on his lees, never having been decanted, never havinggone into exile: and so he kept his own flavour, his aroma was unchanged.	11 Tranquillo era Moab fin dalla sua giovinezza e riposava, lui, sulle sue fecce, perché non era stato travasato da vaso a vaso e non era andato in esilio: per questo ha mantenuto il suo gusto e il suo profumo non s'è alterato.
12 And so the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shal send him decanters to decant him; theywil empty his pitchers and break his wine jars to bits.	12 Per questo ecco: vengono giorni, oracolo del Signore, in cui manderò contro di esso dei travasatori che lo travaseranno, svuoteranno i suoi vasi e frantumeranno le sue anfore.
13 Moab wil be shamed by Chemosh then, as the House of Israel was shamed by Bethel in which theyput their trust.	13 Allora Moab si vergognerà di Camos come si è vergognata la casa d'Israele di Betel, che era la loro fiducia.
14 How can you say, 'We are heroes, sturdy fighting men'?	14 Come potete dire: "Noi siamo eroi e uomini guerrieri in battaglia"?
15 Moab has been ravaged, his cities scaled, the flower of his youth goes down to the slaughter,declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	15 Il devastatore di Moab e delle sue città ascende, e il meglio dei suoi giovani scende al macello. Oracolo del Re degli eserciti il cui nome è Signore.
16 Moab's ruin is coming soon, his downfal comes at top speed.	16 Prossima a venire è la rovina di Moab e la sua sventura è velocissima.
17 Grieve for him, all you living near him, all you who knew his name. Say, 'How shattered it is, thatmighty rod, that splendid sceptre!'	17 Fate cordoglio per lui, voi tutti suoi vicini e chiunque conosce il suo nome. Dite: "Come si spezzò la verga della forza, lo scettro splendente!".
18 Come down from your glory, sit on the parched ground, daughter of Dibon, for the despoiler of Moabhas advanced on you, he has destroyed your strongholds.	18 Scendi dalla gloria, siediti nel deserto, o popolo che abiti a Dibon, poiché chi devasta Moab sta salendo contro di te, abbatterà le tue fortezze.
19 Stand by the roadside, keep watch, daughter of Aroer. Question fugitive and runaway, ask, 'What hashappened?'	19 Lungo la strada fermati e osserva, abitante di Aroer: interroga fuggiasco o scampato, chiedi: cosa è successo?
20 'Moab has been shattered and shamed. Wail and shriek! Shout along the Arnon, Moab has been laidwaste!'	20 Si vergogna Moab perché è abbattuto; ululate e gridate: annunziate lungo l'Arnon che Moab è devastato!
21 Judgement has also come on the Plain, on Holon, Jahzah, Mephaath,	21 Il giudizio è arrivato per il territorio dell'Altipiano, contro Colòn, Ioaz e Mefàat;
22 Dibon, Nebo, Beth-Diblathaim,	22 contro Dibon, Nebo e Bet-Diblatàim;
23 Kiriathaim, Beth-Gamul, Beth-Meon,	23 contro Kiriatàim, Bet-Gamùl e Bet-Meòn;
24 Kerioth, Bozrah, and al the towns of Moab, far and near.	24 contro Kiriòt, Bozra e tutte le città del territorio di Moab, lontane e vicine.
25 Moab's horn has been cut off, his arm is broken, Yahweh declares.	25 E' stato frantumato il corno di Moab e il suo braccio è stato spezzato, oracolo del Signore.
26 Make him drunk! He has set himself up against Yahweh; let Moab wal ow in his vomit and become alaughing-stock in his turn.	26 Ubriacatelo, perché si è fatto grande contro il Signore; si avvoltoli Moab nel suo vomito e divenga motivo di derisione anch'esso.
27 Was Israel not a laughing-stock to you? Was he caught red-handed with the thieves, for you to shakeyour head whenever you mention him?	27 Forse che Israele non è stato per te una risata? E' stato trovato, forse, tra i ladri, che in ogni tua parola contro di lui scrolli la tua testa?
28 Leave the towns, make the rocks your home, inhabitants of Moab. Learn from the dove that makes itsnest in the wal s of the gaping gorge.	28 Abbandonate le città e dimorate tra le rocce, o abitanti di Moab, e siate come colomba che nidifica tra le pareti del precipizio.
29 We have heard about Moab's pride, so very proud! What arrogance! What pride! What conceit! Whata haughty heart!	29 Abbiamo udito la superbia di Moab, è superbo assai! la sua alterigia, la sua superbia e il suo orgoglio e l'arroganza del suo cuore.
30 -I know al about his presumption, Yahweh declares, his empty boasting, those empty deeds of his!	30 Io conosco, oracolo del Signore, la sua rabbia: non ha consistenza; i suoi discorsi: impossibile che si realizzino.
31 -and so I lament for Moab, for al Moab I raise my cry and mourn for the people of Kir-Heres.	31 Per questo su Moab c'è lamento e per Moab intero io grido, per gli uomini di Kir-Cheres si geme!
32 More than for Jazer I weep for you, vineyard of Sibmah: your shoots stretched beyond the sea, they reached al the way to Jazer. On your harvest and vintage the despoiler has descended.	32 Più che piangere Iazèr, per te piango, o vigna di Sibma! Le tue propaggini oltrepassavano il mare, a occidente di Iazèr giungevano: sulla tua vendemmia e sul tuo raccolto il devastatore è piombato,
33 Gladness and joy have vanished from the orchards of Moab. I have dried up the wine in the presses,the treader of grapes treads no more, the joyful shouting has ceased.	33 e fu tolta gioia e allegria dal frutteto e dal paese di Moab; il vino dai torchi ho fatto sparire, più non pigia il pigiatore e il canto non è più canto.
34 The cries of Heshbon and Elealeh can be heard as far as Jahaz. The shrieks resound from Zoar toHoronaim and Eglath-Shelishiyah, for even the Waters of Nimrim have become a wasteland.	34 Per il clamore di Chesbòn s'è udita la loro voce fino ad Elealè, fino a Iachaz; da Zoar fino a Coronàim, a Eglat-Selisià. Sì, perfino le acque di Nimrìm diventeranno un luogo desolato.
35 And in Moab I shal make an end, Yahweh declares, of anyone offering sacrifice on the high placesand anyone offering incense to his gods.	35 Io farò cessare per Moab, oracolo del Signore, chi ascende le alture e chi offre incenso ai suoi dèi.
36 That is why my heart sobs like a flute for Moab, sobs like a flute for the people of Kir-Heres, since thewealth he had acquired is lost.	36 Per questo il mio cuore per Moab come flauti geme, e il mio cuore per gli uomini di Kir-Cheres come flauti geme. Dunque: han perduto il guadagno che si erano procurato.
37 Yes, every head is shaved, every beard cut off, gashes are on every hand, sackcloth round everywaist.	37 Sì, ogni testa è calva e ogni barba viene rasata; su tutte le mani ci sono incisioni e sui fianchi il sacco.
38 On al the housetops of Moab and in al its squares there is nothing but lamenting, for I have brokenMoab like an unwanted pot, Yahweh declares.	38 Su ogni tetto di Moab e nelle sue piazze, tutto è lamento, perché ho spezzato Moab qual vaso che non piace più, oracolo del Signore.
39 How shattered he is! Wail! Moab so shameful y in retreat! Moab has become a laughing-stock, a thingof horror to al his neighbours.	39 Come è costernato! Ululate! Come ha voltato la schiena Moab con vergogna! In tal modo Moab è divenuto motivo di derisione e uno spavento per tutti i suoi vicini.
40 For Yahweh says this: (Look, like an eagle, he wil hover, spreading his wings over Moab.)	40 Sì, così dice il Signore: Ecco, come un'aquila egli plana e piega le sue ali su Moab!
41 The towns have been captured, the strongholds seized. (And the heart of Moab's warriors, that day,wil be like that of a woman in labour pains.)	41 Son prese le città, le fortezze conquistate; e diverrà il cuore degli eroi di Moab, in quel giorno, come il cuore di donna in doglie!
42 Moab wil be destroyed, no longer a people, for setting itself up against Yahweh.	42 Sarà sterminato Moab, non sarà più popolo poiché contro il Signore s'è inorgoglito.
43 Terror, the pit and the snare for you, inhabitant of Moab, Yahweh declares.	43 Terrore, trabocchetto, tranello stan sopra di te, o abitante di Moab! Oracolo del Signore.
44 And anyone who escapes from terror wil fal into the pit, and anyone who climbs out of the pit wil becaught in the snare. Yes, I shall bring all this on Moab when the year comes for punishing them, Yahwehdeclares.	44 Chi fugge lontano dal terrore cadrà nel trabocchetto e chi esce dal trabocchetto sarà preso nel tranello. Sì, io farò venire contro Moab l'anno del loro castigo! Oracolo del Signore.
45 In the shelter of Heshbon the fugitives have paused, exhausted. But fire wil burst from Heshbon, aflame from the palace of Sihon, consuming the brows of Moab, the head of a turbulent brood.	45 All'ombra di Chesbòn s'arrestano senza forza i fuggitivi; ma un fuoco è uscito da Chesbòn e una fiamma di mezzo a Sicòn che ha divorato le tempia di Moab e il cranio dei figli tumultuanti.
46 Disaster for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh are lost! For your sons have been taken into exileand your daughters into captivity.	46 Guai a te, Moab, è scomparso il popolo di Camos! Sì, son portati in esilio i figli tuoi e le figlie tue in prigionia.
47 But I shal bring back Moab's captives in the final days, Yahweh declares. Thus far the judgement onMoab.	47 Ma ristabilirò la sorte di Moab alla fine dei giorni". Oracolo del Signore. Fin qui il giudizio su Moab.
