1 On Moab. Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Wretched Nebo, for it has been ravaged, Kiriathaim hasbeen shamed and taken, shame and distraction on the citadel,	1 Contro di Moab così parla il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Guai a Nabo; perocché ella è devastata, ed umiliata: Cariathiarim è stata espugnata: la forte è confusa, e in tremito.
2 the pride of Moab is no more! At Heshbon they plotted her downfal , 'Come, let us put an end to her asa nation!' And you too, inhabitants of Madmen, wil be silenced, the sword wil be after you.	2 Non v'è più allegrezza in Moab: han formati cattivi disegni contro di Hesebon: Venite, distruggiamola, che non sia più tralle genti. Tu adunque starai in silenzio, e la spada ti sarà alle spalle.
3 A cry of agony goes up from Horonaim, 'Devastation! Dire calamity.	3 Strepiti, e strida da Oronaim: devastamento, e strage grande.
4 Moab has been shattered,' the agonised cries of her little ones ring out.	4 Moab è abbattuta: annunziate a' suoi pargoletti, ch'ei strideranno.
5 Up the slope of Luhith, weeping they go. On the road down to Horonaim is heard the shriek of disaster,	5 Ella salirà il colle di Luith tra pianti continui: i nemici hanno udito nella calata di Oronaim le urla de' miserabili:
6 'Away! Flee for your lives like the wild donkey into the desert!'	6 Fuggite, salvate le vostre vite, siate come il tamarisco nel deserto.
7 Yes, since you relied on your deeds and your wealth, you wil be captured too. Chemosh wil go intoexile, with al his priests and princes.	7 Conciossiachè per aver tu avuta fidanza nelle tue forze, e ne' tuoi tesori, tu pur sarai presa: e muterà paese Chamos, e i suoi sacerdoti, e i suoi principi insieme.
8 The despoiler wil descend on every town, not one will escape; the Valley wil be ravaged, the Plain beplundered as Yahweh has said.	8 E a tutte le città si accosterà il ladrone, e nissuna città rimarrà salva: e saran desolate le valli, e minate le campagne; perocché il Signore lo ha detto:
9 Give Moab wings so that she can fly away, for her towns wil be laid in ruins where no one wil ever liveagain.	9 Coronate Moab di fiori; perocché coronata ella muterà paese, e le sue cittadi saran deserte, e inabitabili.
10 (Accursed be he who does Yahweh's work negligently! Accursed be he who deprives his sword ofblood!)	10 Maledetto chi fa l'opera del Signore con mala fede, e maledetto colui, che rattiene la spada di lui dallo spargere il sangue.
11 From his youth Moab lived at ease, he settled on his lees, never having been decanted, never havinggone into exile: and so he kept his own flavour, his aroma was unchanged.	11 Moab fin dalla sua adolescenza fu fertile, e riposò sulla sua fondata; e non fu trasfuso d'uno in altro vaso, egli non ha mutato paese; per questo il suo sapore si è conservato, e non è alterato il suo odore.
12 And so the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shal send him decanters to decant him; theywil empty his pitchers and break his wine jars to bits.	12 Ecco però che viene il tempo, dice il Signore, quand'io manderò a lui uomini pratici nel disporre i vasi, e nel mutare il vino, e faranno la muta, e vuoteranno i vasi, e li spezzeranno.
13 Moab wil be shamed by Chemosh then, as the House of Israel was shamed by Bethel in which theyput their trust.	13 E Moab sarà confuso per ragion di Chamos, come la casa d'Israele è, stata confusa a causa di Bethel, in cui avea speranza.
14 How can you say, 'We are heroes, sturdy fighting men'?	14 Come mai dite voi: Noi siamo forti, e valorosi a combattere?
15 Moab has been ravaged, his cities scaled, the flower of his youth goes down to the slaughter,declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	15 Il paese di Moab è devastato, e son ite in fumo le sue città: e la scelta sua gioventù è andata al macello, dice il Re, che si noma il Signor degli eserciti.
16 Moab's ruin is coming soon, his downfal comes at top speed.	16 La perdizione di Moab è imminente: e le sue sciagure verranno con somma celerità.
17 Grieve for him, all you living near him, all you who knew his name. Say, 'How shattered it is, thatmighty rod, that splendid sceptre!'	17 Consolatelo tutti voi, che intorno a lui dimorate: e voi, che avete di lui conoscenza, dite: Come mai è stato spezzato lo scettro forte, il bastone di gloria?
18 Come down from your glory, sit on the parched ground, daughter of Dibon, for the despoiler of Moabhas advanced on you, he has destroyed your strongholds.	18 Scendi dalla tua gloria, e siedi in arido sito, o figlia abitatrice di Dibon: perocché lo sterminatore di Moab sen viene a te, e abbatterà tue difese.
19 Stand by the roadside, keep watch, daughter of Aroer. Question fugitive and runaway, ask, 'What hashappened?'	19 Stattene sulla strada, e fa l'ascolta, o abitatrice di Aroer: domanda al fuggitivo, e a colui, che ha avuto scampo, dì: Che è egli stato?
20 'Moab has been shattered and shamed. Wail and shriek! Shout along the Arnon, Moab has been laidwaste!'	20 Moab è confuso, perchè è stato vinto: urlate, alzate le strida, fate sapere lungo l'Arnon, che Moab è devastata.
21 Judgement has also come on the Plain, on Holon, Jahzah, Mephaath,	21 E la vendetta è venuta sulla terra campestre, sopra Helon, e sopra Jafa, e sopra Mephaath,
22 Dibon, Nebo, Beth-Diblathaim,	22 E sopra Dibon, e sopra Nabo, e sopra la casa di Deblathaim,
23 Kiriathaim, Beth-Gamul, Beth-Meon,	23 E sopra Cariathaim, e sopra Bethgamul, e sopra Bethmaon,
24 Kerioth, Bozrah, and al the towns of Moab, far and near.	24 E sopra Carioth, e sopra Bosra; e sopra tutte le città del paese di Moab, le rimote, e le vicine.
25 Moab's horn has been cut off, his arm is broken, Yahweh declares.	25 E stato troncato il corno di Moab, e spezzato il suo braccio, dice il Signore.
26 Make him drunk! He has set himself up against Yahweh; let Moab wal ow in his vomit and become alaughing-stock in his turn.	26 Inebriatelo, perchè egli si è inalberato contro il Signore, e vomiti, e sbatta le mani, e sia egli pure oggetto di scherno.
27 Was Israel not a laughing-stock to you? Was he caught red-handed with the thieves, for you to shakeyour head whenever you mention him?	27 Imperocché tu schernisti Israele, come se lo avessi sorpreso in compagnia di ladri: a motivo adunque delle parole, che hai detto contro di lui, sarai tu menato in ischiavitù.
28 Leave the towns, make the rocks your home, inhabitants of Moab. Learn from the dove that makes itsnest in the wal s of the gaping gorge.	28 Abbandonate le città, andate a stare sui massi, o abitatori di Moab: e siate come colomba, che fa suo nido nella parte più alta della forata rupe.
29 We have heard about Moab's pride, so very proud! What arrogance! What pride! What conceit! Whata haughty heart!	29 Abbiam sentito parlare della superbia di Moab, che è grandemente superbo; e della sua altura, e della arroganza, e della superbia, e dell'elevato suo cuore.
30 -I know al about his presumption, Yahweh declares, his empty boasting, those empty deeds of his!	30 Io conosco, dice il Signore, la sua giattanza; e che a questa il suo valor non confina, e i suoi tentativi non furon proporzionati al suo potere.
31 -and so I lament for Moab, for al Moab I raise my cry and mourn for the people of Kir-Heres.	31 Per questo io alzerò le strida sopra di Moab, e a tutto Moab farò sentir la mia voce, e agli uomini delle mura di mattone, i quali menan gran duolo.
32 More than for Jazer I weep for you, vineyard of Sibmah: your shoots stretched beyond the sea, they reached al the way to Jazer. On your harvest and vintage the despoiler has descended.	32 Come ho pianto Jazer, cosi piangerò te, o vigna di Sabama; le tue propaggini hanno passato il mare, sono arrivate fino al mare di Jazer: sopra la tua messe, e sopra la tua vendemmia si è gittato il ladrone.
33 Gladness and joy have vanished from the orchards of Moab. I have dried up the wine in the presses,the treader of grapes treads no more, the joyful shouting has ceased.	33 L'allegrezza, e il gaudio è stato tolto al Carmelo, ed a Moab: ho tolto il vino agli strettoi; né colui, che pigia le uve, canterà la usata canzone.
34 The cries of Heshbon and Elealeh can be heard as far as Jahaz. The shrieks resound from Zoar toHoronaim and Eglath-Shelishiyah, for even the Waters of Nimrim have become a wasteland.	34 Le grida di Hesebon arriveran fino ad Eleale, ed a Jasa: hanno alzata la loro voce da Segor fino ad Oronaim, come una vitella di tre anni. Le acque ancora di Nemrim saran di pessima qualità.
35 And in Moab I shal make an end, Yahweh declares, of anyone offering sacrifice on the high placesand anyone offering incense to his gods.	35 E io toglierò da Moab, dice il Signore, e colui, che fa obblazioni ne' luoghi elevati, e colui, che fa sacrifizio agli dii di lui.
36 That is why my heart sobs like a flute for Moab, sobs like a flute for the people of Kir-Heres, since thewealth he had acquired is lost.	36 Per questo il mio cuore darà suono come di tibia per amore di Moab, e per amor di coloro, che abitan dentro le muraglie di matton cotto, il mio cuore darà suono di tibia: son iti in rovina, perchè han fatto più di quel, che potevano:
37 Yes, every head is shaved, every beard cut off, gashes are on every hand, sackcloth round everywaist.	37 Perchè ogni testa sarà senza capelli, e sarà rasa ogni barba; tutte le braccia saran fasciate; e ogni dorso sarà coperto di cilizio.
38 On al the housetops of Moab and in al its squares there is nothing but lamenting, for I have brokenMoab like an unwanted pot, Yahweh declares.	38 Non si sentirà se non gemiti su tutti i tetti di Moab, e pelle sue piazze; perocché io ho spezzato Moab come un vaso non buono a nulla, dice il Signore.
39 How shattered he is! Wail! Moab so shameful y in retreat! Moab has become a laughing-stock, a thingof horror to al his neighbours.	39 Come mai è ella stata vinta, ed ha alzate le strida? Come mai Moab ha gettato giù il capo, ed è confusa? Moab sarà scherno, ed esempio per tutti ne' suoi contorni.
40 For Yahweh says this: (Look, like an eagle, he wil hover, spreading his wings over Moab.)	40 Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco che (il Caldeo) volerà come aquila, e le ali sue stenderà sopra Moab.
41 The towns have been captured, the strongholds seized. (And the heart of Moab's warriors, that day,wil be like that of a woman in labour pains.)	41 Carioth è stata espugnata, e i suoi baluardi sono stati superati: e il cuore dei forti di Moab sarà in quel di come il cuore di una donna, che partorisce.
42 Moab wil be destroyed, no longer a people, for setting itself up against Yahweh.	42 E Moab cesserà di essere un popolo; perchè si è insuperbito contro il Signore.
43 Terror, the pit and the snare for you, inhabitant of Moab, Yahweh declares.	43 La scacciata, la fossa, e il laccio saran per te, o abitatore di Moab, dice il Signore.
44 And anyone who escapes from terror wil fal into the pit, and anyone who climbs out of the pit wil becaught in the snare. Yes, I shall bring all this on Moab when the year comes for punishing them, Yahwehdeclares.	44 Chi scanserà la scacciata, cadrà nella fossa, e chi uscirà della fossa, sarà preso al laccio: imperocché io farò venire per Moab l'anno di loro visita, dice il Signore.
45 In the shelter of Heshbon the fugitives have paused, exhausted. But fire wil burst from Heshbon, aflame from the palace of Sihon, consuming the brows of Moab, the head of a turbulent brood.	45 Que', che fuggivano il laccio, si posarono all'ombra di Hesebon, ma è uscito fuoco di Hesebon, e una fiamma di mezzo a Sehon, la quale divorerà una parte di Moab, e l'altura de' figliuoli di tumulto.
46 Disaster for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh are lost! For your sons have been taken into exileand your daughters into captivity.	46 Guai a te, o Moab, popolo di Chamos tu se' andato in rovina; perocché sono stati portati via i figli tuoi, e le figlie in ischiavitù.
47 But I shal bring back Moab's captives in the final days, Yahweh declares. Thus far the judgement onMoab.	47 Ed io farò ritornare i prigionieri di Moab negli ultimi giorni, dice il Signore. Fin qui il giudizio di Moab.
