¹ In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. And as they were taking theirmeal together, there at Mizpah,	¹ Jedoch im siebten Monat kam Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, der Enkel Elischamas, aus königlichem Stamm [einer von den Großen des Königs], mit zehn Männern zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Achikams, nach Mizpa. Sie hielten dort ein gemeinschaftliches Mahl.
² Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	² Da erhob sich Ismael, der Sohn des Netanja, samt den zehn Männern, die bei ihm waren, und sie erschlugen Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, den Enkel Schaphans, mit dem Schwerte. So brachte er den Mann um, den der Babelkönig im Lande als Statthalter eingesetzt hatte.
³ And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.	³ Auch alle Judäer, die bei ihm [bei Gedalja] in Mizpa waren, und die Kaldäer, die sich als militärische Besatzung dort befanden, schlug Ismael tot.
⁴ On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before the news had become known,	⁴ Es begab sich aber am zweiten Tage nach Gedaljas Ermordung, als noch niemand etwas wußte,
⁵ eighty men arrived from Shechem, Shiloh and Samaria, with their beards shaved off, their clothing torn,and covered in self-inflicted gashes; they were bringing cereal offerings and incense with them to present to theTemple of Yahweh.	⁵ da kamen Leute von Sichem, Silo und Samaria, achtzig Mann, mit geschorenen Bärten, zerrissenen Gewändern und eingeritzter Haut; sie trugen in ihren Händen Opfergaben und Weihrauch, um sie zum Hause des Herrn zu bringen.
⁶ Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out of Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. When he met themhe said, 'Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'	⁶ Da ging Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, von Mizpa aus ihnen entgegen und machte dabei eine weinerliche Miene. Sobald er mit ihnen zusammentraf, lud er sie ein: "Kommt zu Gedalja, dem Sohn Achikams!"
⁷ But once they were wel inside the town, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them, with the help ofhis men, and had them thrown into the storage-wel .	⁷ Nachdem sie nun in die Stadtmitte gekommen waren, hieb Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, sie nieder und warf sie in die Zisterne, er und die Leute, die er bei sich hatte.
⁸ There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.	⁸ Unter ihnen befanden sich jedoch zehn Männer, die zu Ismael sprachen: "Bring uns nicht um; denn wir haben versteckte Vorräte auf dem Felde: Weizen, Gerste, Öl und Honig!" ⁹ The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled itwith the slaughtered men.	⁹ Die Zisterne aber, in welche Ismael alle Leichen der Leute, die er erschlagen hatte, hineinwarf, war eine große Zisterne - es war jene, die König Asa gegen Bascha, den König von Israel, angelegt hatte. ¹⁰ Ishmael then took al the rest of the people prisoner who were at Mizpah, the king's daughters and althe remaining people in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, commander of the guard, had entrusted to Gedaliah sonof Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them prisoner and set out, intending to cross over to the Ammonites.	¹⁰ Danach führte Ismael den ganzen Rest der Leute in Mizpa weg samt den Prinzessinnen, die Nebusaradan, der Führer der Leibwache, dem Gedalja, dem Sohn Achikams, anvertraut hatte; Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, führte sie weg und zog ab, um über die Grenze zu den Ammonitern zu gelangen.
¹¹ When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,	¹¹ Jochanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Truppenführer, die bei ihm waren, vernahmen von all dem Unrecht, das Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, begangen hatte.
¹² they mustered all their men and set out to attack Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They caught up with himat the great Pool of Gibeon.	¹² Sie nahmen alle ihre Leute und zogen zum Kampf wider Ismael, den Sohn Netanjas, aus; sie stießen auf ihn am großen Gewässer bei Gibeon.
¹³ At the sight of Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him, al the people with Ishmaelwere delighted.	¹³ Als nun sämtliche Leute um Ismael den Jochanan, den Sohn des Kareach, und neben ihm alle Truppenführer erblickten, sprangen sie freudig auf.
¹⁴ Al the people whom Ishmael had taken as prisoners from Mizpah turned about, went back and joinedJohanan son of Kareah.	¹⁴ Alle Leute, die Ismael von Mizpa fortgeführt hatte, schwenkten um und traten auf die Seite Jochanans, des Sohnes des Kareach.
¹⁵ Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.	¹⁵ Jedoch gelang es Ismael, dem Sohn des Netanja, mit acht Mann dem Jochanan zu entkommen und zu den Ammonitern zu fliehen.
¹⁶ Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.	¹⁶ Da übernahmen Jochanan, der Sohn des Kareach, und alle bei ihm befindlichen Truppenführer den ganzen Rest der Leute, den Ismael, der Sohn des Netanja, nach der Ermordung Gedaljas von Mizpa fortgeführt hatte: Männer, Frauen, Kinder und Palastbeamte, die er von Gibeon zurückbrachte.
¹⁷ Setting off, they made a halt at Khan Kimham near Bethlehem, intending to go on to Egypt,	¹⁷ Sie zogen ab und machten halt in der Herberge des Kimham bei Bethlehem in der Absicht, nach Ägypten weiterzuziehen.
¹⁸ to get away from the Chaldaeans. They were now terrified of them, since Ishmael son of Nethaniahhad kil ed Gedaliah son of Ahikam whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	¹⁸ Dadurch wollten sie den Kaldäern entkommen. Sie fürchteten sich nämlich vor ihnen, weil Ismael, der Sohn Netanjas, den Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, der vom König von Babel im Lande als Statthalter eingesetzt war, erschlagen hatte.
