Jeremiah 41

1 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. And as they were taking theirmeal together, there at Mizpah,	1 Or nel settimo mese venne Ismaele, figlio di Natania, figlio di Elisamà, di stirpe reale, insieme a dieci uomini, presso Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, in Mizpà e là in Mizpà mangiarono insieme.
2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	2 Allora si levò Ismaele, figlio di Natania, insieme ai dieci uomini che erano con lui e colpì con la spada Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn, e fece morire colui che il re di Babilonia aveva preposto nel paese.
3 And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.	3 Ismaele uccise anche tutti i Giudei che erano con Godolia in Mizpà e i Caldei, uomini di guerra, che si trovavano ivi.

6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out of Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. 8 There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.	8 Ma dieci uomini che si trovavano tra essi dissero ad Ismaele: "Non farci morire, perché noi abbiamo nascosto nel campo grano, orzo, olio e miele". 9 The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled itwith the slaughtered men.	9 La cisterna dove Ismaele fece gettare tutti i cadaveri degli uomini che aveva ucciso era la grande cisterna che il re Asa aveva costruito contro Baasa, re di Israele. 10 Ishmael then took al the rest of the people prisoner who were at Mizpah, the king's daughters and althe remaining people in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, commander of the guard, had entrusted to Gedaliah sonof Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them prisoner and set out, intending to cross over to the Ammonites.	10 Quindi Ismaele deportò tutto il resto del popolo che era in Mizpà, le figlie del re e tutto il popolo rimasto in Mizpà al quale Nabuzaradàn, capo della guardia, aveva preposto Godolia, figlio di Achikàm. Ismaele, figlio di Natania, li deportò e partì per passare agli Ammoniti.
11 When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,	11 Quando Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, e tutti i prìncipi dell'esercito che erano con lui udirono tutto il male che aveva fatto Ismaele, figlio di Natania,
12 they mustered all their men and set out to attack Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They caught up with himat the great Pool of Gibeon.	12 radunarono tutti gli uomini e partirono per combattere contro Ismaele, figlio di Natania, e lo trovarono presso le grandi acque che sono in Gàbaon.
13 At the sight of Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him, al the people with Ishmaelwere delighted.	13 Quando tutto il popolo che era con Ismaele vide Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, e tutti i prìncipi dell'esercito che erano con lui, si rallegrarono,

15 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.	15 Però Ismaele, figlio di Natania, poté scampare con otto uomini di fronte a Giovanni e se ne andò presso gli Ammoniti.
16 Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.	16 Allora Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, e tutti i prìncipi che erano con lui, presero tutto il resto del popolo che Ismaele, figlio di Natania, aveva deportato da Mizpà dopo aver ucciso Godolia, figlio di Achikàm: erano valorosi uomini di guerra, donne, fanciulli ed eunuchi quelli che ricondussero da Gàbaon.
17 Setting off, they made a halt at Khan Kimham near Bethlehem, intending to go on to Egypt,	17 Ripartirono e sostarono in Gherut-Chimàm che è di fianco a Betlemme, per poi proseguire e andare in Egitto,
18 to get away from the Chaldaeans. They were now terrified of them, since Ishmael son of Nethaniahhad kil ed Gedaliah son of Ahikam whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.	18 lontano dai Caldei, perché avevano timore di loro, giacché Ismaele, figlio di Natania, aveva ucciso Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, che il re di Babilonia aveva preposto nel paese.
